This is Astro's reply from their FB page. Just one day before 1st April, finally they replied.
QUOTE Hi, this is the response from Discovery Networks – Thank you for your interest in Discovery HD. Unfortunately, Discovery HD is not available on the Astro platform at the moment. Discovery HD is currently only available in selected countries in Southeast Asia. In the past week, Discovery Networks ran some teasers to introduce the rebrand of Discovery HD to Discovery HD World on 1st April. As the feed for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Travel and Living goes across all of Southeast Asia, viewers in Malaysia also saw the spot. The spot was meant to introduce the re-brand for countries where Discovery HD is already available as Discovery's HD service has not been introduced in Malaysia yet. Discovery Networks apologises for any confusion caused. |

QUOTE(kuekss @ Mar 31 2010, 04:32 PM) if anyone was reading Samsung's advert today, one of the things their 3D TV does is convert 2D content for 3D display. QUOTE Catch 2D in 3D. Samsung's built-in 3D processor is so powerful it can convert 2D (normal) movies and photos to 3D in real-time with the push of a button http://www.samsung.com/us/learningresources3D/ how good the result is, I have no idea. probably a crapshoot (good on some programs, poor on others...) Samsung are giving you very misleading information impling that the Astro broadcast is like that at sky in the UK.
From the marketing thing you showed before what they have is some technolgy to simulate probably an anaglyth 3d which is based on having motion in the picture with defind foreground and background. The effect is of layers & looks pretty boring and only works on certain camera angles. Still I'd like to see what they have to offer This post has been edited by TallJustin: Mar 31 2010, 10:57 PM |

QUOTE(TallJustin @ Mar 31 2010, 10:47 PM) Samsung are giving you very misleading information impling that the Astro broadcast is like that at sky in the UK. I stand corrected. Having seen the Samsung 3D LED HDTV (that's really long), I can attest that they DO synthesize 3D out of 2D content.QUOTE From the marketing thing you showed before what they have is some technolgy to simulate probably an anaglyth 3d which is based on having motion in the picture with defind foreground and background. The effect is of layers & looks pretty boring and only works on certain camera angles. Still I'd like to see what they have to offer It's not anaglyph. It's full color, full HD 3D.THERE IS A CATCH: It doesn't work as well as as native 3D content. As far as 3D broadcast is concerned, the codec is going to be MPEG-4 MVC, just like the one ratified for use with 3D BD. DirectTV is already touting their upcoming ESPN 3D channel to be launched soon. How ESPN capture the 3D footage is up to them. fuad This post has been edited by writesimply: Apr 1 2010, 11:57 AM |

QUOTE(writesimply @ Mar 31 2010, 11:28 PM) that's a given, though - no one would expect any more. Just like PLII processing isn't as good as discretely mixed surroundeven if it's decent 60% of the time it's worth getting a 3D TV - it's not as if you can't watch regular 2D on it |
