So far, Uniqlo has expanded to Hong Kong, Korea and even Singapore. I have heard plans of them planning to expand to Malaysia next year. Anyone excited about this brand?

I've heard a lot of good things about their flannels, shirts and selvage.

For people interested in the link:

Outlets are also planned to open in Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and Taiwan by next year with Indonesia and the Philippines to follow eventually.

i read somewhere that after singapore, they would want to venture into malaysia. i really do hope so.

i have a couple of their soft touch tees, oxford shirts and socks...which i really2 like. visited their stores in osaka and singapore, and price wise with exchange rate are about the same.

hope that prices dont shoot up when they are in malaysia!

Doubt the prices will be overpriced. If not mistaken, price range should be similar to topshop but quality is definitely there.

I have heard nothing but good things about their denim.

Yeah, they used Kaihara denim which is the same company that used by Levis.
If I'm not mistaken, they used 14 oz selvedge denim

its interesting how we go gaga over this Jap brand.
the quality is good, value for money.
Uniqlo is like Gap or maybe Old Navy range.

I don't think Uniqlo is like Gap/Old Navy.

They are more superior, coz their material quality is fantastic compare to those brand.

Yeah, I agree with that. Their price is very reasonable.

Recently, I have bought a Chambray Workshirt form them. The chambray quality is great and the stitching detail is very2 marvelous.

It is fulled with chain stitching.

Me too, have a bunch of Uniqlo T-shirt and a polo. But, i have over used them and few of them look old already.

BTW, I have a BNWT Uniqlo T-shirt in S size that I want to let go. I bought it 2 month ago from Uniqlo japan but it's too small for me.

It's the same with this T-shirt on the Uniqlo Japan Website

Ooops, I'm sorry about that.

Btw, IMHO.. Uniqlo have received much recognition lately except in Malaysia. The people in America and Europe grad this brand higher than other mall brand such as GAP even H&M and J.Crew. In addition, Uniqlo already open their retail store in the center of fashion city like New York and London and received great feedback from customer. Even, a respectful designer in the fashion industry like Jil Sander made collaboration with them. It shows that this brand have a high value in this fashion industry.

Just my 2 cent...

Uniqlo here in states? yet to find them here in this part of the US.
Muji at one time also expanded to various parts of the world and received good review.. today also faded away.
my spouse btw is japanese wouldn't grade it higher than store brands eg GAP. giving Uniqlo as a gift in their culture is kinda "insult".
IMHO well designer names could be found in walmart/target brands stuff too, does not mean they have great intrinsic value. For me Designer out to make $$, want to make $$ from the rich and those avg working ppl.

my 2 cents here.

They opened one in Soho, NY if not mistaken, not sure when. Doing pretty well from my knowledge.

I don't see how your spouse's ethnicity has any relevance to any retail brands.

Otoma said the significance and strategic location of Singapore made it a prime location and springboard, not only for the region but also markets in the Middle East.

Outlets are also planned to open in Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and Taiwan by next year with Indonesia and the Philippines to follow eventually.

He hopes to increase the number of stores in the Asian region from 76 to 132 by the end of August next year.

But, the choice will be boring since Malaysia is not a four season country..

I think the stock will be based on the spring and summer collection only.

since past 3 weeks where i go to singapore every weekend, i will buy 1 or 2 items there. got my army cap, sandal, 3 quarter pant, UT tshirt based on olskool video games (bomberman and densha de go)...
it is so addicting.

normally, every week, they have special discount on certain items and the following week the promotion changes to other items.
perhaps tomorrow will go again to check the promotion items..

and the last but not list.. you can wear it while you riding a motor

Kinda like Uniqlo.. bought few pieces when I was in Japan last year. Another one that I like is the Loft (not a fashion store) they sell loads of cute stuff. Found out they have a store in Bangkok too. Wonder when they gonna come to Malaysia. Hopefully they wont be too expensive.

You know, getting Uniqlo here will actually give local brands such as Padini / SEED some competition since the former's price to quality ratio is marvelous (provided that DNP Clothing don't mark up the price of Uniqlo's garments too much).

By the way, I'm guessing that DNP Clothing (Topshop,Topman,Dorothy Perkins, etc) will be in charge of Uniqlo in Malaysia since the company is under Wing Tai Asia (distributor of Uniqlo in Singapore).

Yeah.. I agree with you on this matter. Uniqlo offers great quality clothing but in more affordable manner. This will give some healthy competition for Padini/SEED or even GAP which is always compared to Uniqlo.

Retailers' annual reports and corporate news, usually available on their respective websites. smile.gif

Annual reports usually include future expansion plans like the opening of new regional flagship stores but from UNIQLO's previous annual report, there still isn't any confirmed news about opening a store in Malaysia. I have yet to check Wing Tai Asia's annual report though.

Just as I have expected - it's under DNP Clothing. I guess the local Uniqlo's stuffs will be priced somewhat similar to Topman's after all.

uniqlo is well-known for furnishing quality products at a steal. their articles are more 'evergreen' and subtle; a basic for any wardrobe.

however, i still patronize topman for something unusual and trendy. this has been topman's strong point. you sure can find something similar to the latest paris/milan/london/new york runway.

Lol, was doing data searches for this fast retailing company in google and came across to this... Well Uniqlo is definitely better than Topman in terms of quality and it's slightly cheaper as well if you consider them at normal price without sales. Uniqlo is a Jap brand and their clothes are more suitable to us Asians body figures in terms of cutting, unlike Topman they're made for Brits

Since both labels are under DNP Clothing in Malaysia, I am expecting the prices of local Uniqlo's products to be priced accordingly to be closer to Topman's pricing.

As far as I know, the news that H&M will be opening their flagship store in Malaysia soon is just a baseless rumour.

I have been looking at Hennes & Mauritz's annual reports and so far there have yet to be any mentions about expansion to this part of the world. H&M opened their first stores this year in countries such as Turkey (June), Israel (March) and South Korea (February) and these were reflected in their previous AGM (Annual General Meeting) report.

During the recent AGM which was held in April this year, the Chief Executive Officer reported that Hennes & Mauritz expresses their interest in Asia but they will only be focusing on expanding their other labels - COS, Monki and Weekday by opening new stores in Hong Kong.

For their main label, H&M : In HENNES & MAURITZ AB's six-month report released recently (June), they listed Croatia and Romania as the new countries for expansion in spring 2011 and Morocco as the new franchise market in autumn 2011.

H&M is typical European stuff: huge and baggy. I have many of their dress shirts.

I believe H&M's Discussion Board on Facebook (with its various Bring H&M to *insert_country_name*! threads) to be one of the sources of this rumour.

Based on the rate which H&M is expanding, there could be a chance of having a H&M flagship store in our country in the future but as for how soon it is, nobody knows yet since Hennes & Mauritz have not announced anything officially. Expect surprises, I guess.

It would probably be a franchise given the fact that some major international retailers are exiting our markets . The rumor in Singapore is they will open at a Mall which is currently under construction near Somerset 313. The initial rumor was for them to open at Orchard Ion, which in my mind is highly improbably given the mall's market positioning. The subsequent rumor was for them to open at 313 Somerset only to be beaten to the spot by Uniglo.

I've also heard that the owners of The Heeren were negotiating with them to be located there as the Heeren lost a major anchor tenant after HMV relocated to 313.

Ah well it seems that our market is not sufficiently attractive for them!!

Since both labels are under DNP Clothing in Malaysia, I am expecting the prices of local Uniqlo's products to be priced accordingly to be closer to Topman's pricing.
*
Shouldn't be local uniqlo are still 55% under F.R pricing should be close to sg/hk/china

With Topman and Uniqlo already offering / going to offer some competition in the budget apparel sector in Malaysia, I wonder if our sector of the market will be lucrative enough for H&M to try and wedge themselves in. If retailers in this region plan on negotiating with Hennes & Mauritz on franchising, I think chances are Wing Tai Asia and its subsidiary company DNP Clothing (M) will probably be at the front of the queue to gain all three popular budget labels under their umbrella.

At the end of last month, The Wall Street Journal had already posted a news article confirming Fast Retailing and DNP Clothing's joint venture in setting up Uniqlo in our country.

Moreover, Uniqlo's website has already prepared a section for Malaysia. http://www.uniqlo.com/my/

I hope they bring in the J+ range designed by Jil Sanders too. Bought one of the t-shirts during the recent great Singapore sale & they were a real joy to wear.

Don't think H & M will have the same quality standards as Uniglo

It is relatively easy to acquire some of H&M's apparels online. I have a few of their odd jackets and found their construction to be better than Topman's.

It will give that place a new lease of life.

Hopefully Uniglo will not go the way of the previous anchor tenants ( Mun Loong, Gallery Lafayette etc )

The tunnel that used to connect the hotel & KL Plaza needs to be revived as motorists & bikes tend to ignore the traffic lights on this stretch of road to facilitate ease of access .

Bottom left: Open this fall

There is a chance they might be opening their stores earlier than expected - i.e: Early autumn or mid-autumn instead of at the end of autumn in November.

The 2 ply cotton fabric felt really nice and construction was neat. They have a range specifically for work shirts but its kinda limited in variety. I think they would compare favourably to offerings from Raoul in terms of quality. I can't recall the prices.

This was based on what I saw in their outlet at Ion Orchard/ Singapore.

why there are so much anticipation for this brand opening store in msia??
isit that special?

Oh, people who know this brand and used it before would know how good it is....

It's not branded or anything, just that their items are value buys for their quality/design...

It's a Japanese brand, so firstly, all their items are design to fit our asian bodies properly unlike topmans (some of their jeans or shirts are too long) ===> nice fit

secondly, they've got nice printed tees based on animes/cartoons/mickey which is cheap as well.. around 10pounds or less in Uk, maybe Malaysia retail would be around rm60 i suppose.. I dont think you can get a Mickey T for that price in threepointsix

thirdly, jeans are really cheap for their quality/selections/fashion... in UK they're just 20pounds for basic ones, maybe Malaysia retailing it around rm120 i guess.. where can u find a good jeans for that price huh... Levi's = rm300.... u can buy 2+ uniqlo jeans...

the only bad thing is, after it hits malaysian shores, everyone will buy it and u will see everyone wearing it on the streets... which is a frustrating thing lol...

nope
some people believe that what brand they wear is what differentiate them from the rest
if all wear some clothes all look the same
he/she wont feel that special/different anymore
simple analogy..student go to school all wear same clothes vs university student wear casual clothes which is diff from people to people
which one you prefer

i think the brand you wear represents your taste and your whole identity. of course, some might like certain brands because of the exclusivity it has because not available locally but seriously, i would be happier if someone knows to rock the brands i like because they have the same good taste like me. tongue.gif

and i dont think the theory where students wear the same uniform applies here. there is one thing called mix and match and there can never be same style even if we purchase stuffs from a same brand unless both of us really wear the same thing from top to toe.

I think u misunderstood my point there,
I was trying to imply that there're too many Copycats in our country where ppl just follow whatever another guy wears, not considering whether that item is suitable or not, in short, they follow the trend...
An example is skinny jeans, Skinny jeans is only applicable and looks good when wore on an average guy... If a guy who is too thin wears it, he will look even more skinnier, thus does not look good... If a guy who is too fat wears it, it would be like torturing the jeans n makes his flesh comes out even more...

Dunno if that was a good example or not, but another one is branded stuffs such as LV.... Some ppl buy LV because of its quality n unique design BUT a lot of ppl buy LV because of the branding... Nowadays u see everyone in Pavilion carries a LV bag... BUT u know some of the designs that they carry is just fugly... It makes the brand looks Cheap in some way....

generally, i feel that brands like uniqlo, topman, etc are retail giants.
they will sooner or later it will open a store nearby
there is nothing anyone can do about it but find for a more "special" brand to buy from
that is if you consider buying from a "brand everyone has" makes you frustrated

style can never be the same, i have to agree
but mix and match all you want, this is still malaysia ..
how far can you go with the recent arid & hot weather condition in malaysia ?
i think you can tell if someone is wearing the same top as you or not .. does that make you comfortable ?

The clothes don't make the man. It should only amplify who you are. What should make the most difference to be 'different' is what's inside. That's why some people can wear the most expensive things, and still look cheap.

You have misinterpreted the job ad. They are only using the place in Pavilion temporarily to hold job interviews since Fahrenheit 88 has yet to open.

Besides, I doubt that is true since Fahrenheit 88 is just a stone's throw away from Pavilion (which is also in charge of retail management for the former). If they are to open a second store in the future, they would do it somewhere further away - probably in The Gardens, Sunway Pyramid or 1 Utama, provided there are vacant lots available to them.
It will take a while before Uniqlo plans to open its second store in this country as they will need to gauge their flagship store's sales performance.

Dude... Zara is not shitty, just that the prices in Malaysia is stupid (around 40-50% marked up price compared to UK), the lines are like 1-2 seasons behind somemore! In UK, it's like one of the most affordable/best brands for its price...

I dun see which of their products have bad quality.... Do enlighten me pls..
at least to me it's many times better than those stupid Topman or H&M..

Uniqlo itself is not really expensive, but I think when it comes to Malaysia, it's gonna be marked up like hell....

zara is not for people who are going there looking for essentials...they are better at making trendy clothes....not essentials....uniqlo is more essential stuff....plus...zara around the world are always right on season....even in M'sia...don;t believe? go to zara website check their collection and go to any store in M'sia to find it....they're always there....even when I went to zara in HK they sell the same thing....and yes....uniqlo quality is gud for the price u pay....

Hmm.. I am talking about the topman T-shirts which have many diff colours n really westernised designs... What topman is that? I am not really tbh coz in UK there's only 1 Topman for everything... Or if u mean different lines in topman, zara have different lines as well ar.. zara casual, zara basic etc..

I am calculating based on current exchange rate lar for the 40-50%... UK-Malaysia exchange rate is stable with rm5 to 1 pound now... the prices of Zara in Malaysia divided by 7 = UK price if u know what i mean.. For example a shoes in UK sells for 29 pounds, in Malaysia its rm199.. the last time rm7 to 1 pound was like 3 years+ ago....
7/5 = 1.4 = 140%... Well the reason i said could be up to 50% is because the sales for Zara is so bad here in Malaysia as well... You could say its due to policies for franchaise holder lar...

Other than European brand, G2000 is also VERY expensive in Malaysia... HK-Malaysia exchange rate have always been quite stable around 2.2-2.4.... But the working clothes n pants here are so much more expensive!... A new pants in KLCC G2000 is rm169... in HK it's only 230+ HKD original price.... Its bought at the same period of time also...

@chuakz,
uniqlo is quite trendy as well actually...
I am not sure about zara websites, but I am sure of what i see... There was once I bought this shoes in UK which I saw it still selling in Zara KLCC 1 year later.. U may say it's an old product still selling but do u have any idea how fast Zara produces new line of stuffs in Spain? They come up with new stuffs EVERY 2 weeks.... That's why I doubt the website is not even up to date with it....
I actually been to Zara in HK as well, their stuffs are actually slower than UK ones as well...

Correct.

Usually, Uniqlo plastic features two logo side-by-side.

Same logo design, only different words.

One is "Uniqlo", another one is "Yu-ni-ku-ro".

Yes it is...
It is a form of respect for the creator of the brand name....

ur name is Raul is it?

How would you like it if I call you by 'Raol' instead of 'Ra-ool' which is the proper pronounciation

Saw some price tag with RM at Uniqlo Singapore. As I remember, an item which cost SG$39.90 will be sold at RM99. Ain't cheap.

I'm pretty sure the stuff won't be cheap. I don't know what cheap means to you guys. But T-shirts above RM50 is NOT affordable. I looked at the SG website and most of the stuff looks suspiciously like Topman. Everything seems to be made for stick people nowdays.

At first i thought that this Uniqlo company carries very obscure underground brands that are very much in fad in Japan. But when see the catalogs, its so much same with everything being sold everywhere.

I cannot see whats so big about this brand. Maybe until the shop opens, i could gauge whats different. But till then it looks just like any Topman store.

Any brands which initially is cheap ends up expensive in Malaysia.. One of forumers already said he saw a 40SGD Uniqlo selling for rm99... It's like 2.5 exchange compared to the spot rate of 2.32 currently..

This is definitely not another topman... The cuttings and materials are much better than topman.... Topman quality lost far far compared to Uniqlo...

Uniqlo is an international brand, the design is specially catered for all, so u won't expect the style to be very japanese.... But the cutting suits us Asian body n height very well...

Attended my 3rd day of training today. We were shown some tees with the singapore/malaysia price tag attached, which means u can see both sing dollars and ringgit side by side. The price in RM was directly converted from sing dollars. no mark ups. That's all I know so far. We have no idea if they'll make some changes to the tags. =/

If you know what the exact conversion/exchange rate, then it would be best. Someone did post up the price of in SGD and MYR pages back, seems like they're going for nearly 2.5 exchange rate. Thats high knowing now its only around 2.2

Exchange rates fluctuate. You cannot seriously expect the retailer to change prices on a daily basis to reflect the currency spot price

around 2 - 2.5. items of different categories are entitled to different exchange rate. tshirts being the lowest. their relaxed fit jeans is almost RM180. I've only seen a few products which they used to train us.

type in a random place. in the adress bar. as they show the route. click on the clothes along it. if ure lucky enough you might get a free trip to tokyo.

No. That would be ridiculous.
I guess it means if your nett total before discount exceeds RM1000 then your voucher is not applicable.

Strange, but that's what it says.

Yea i cant wait for 11am tomorrow morning since my hols already started. But i doubt we can use the coupons on the discounted items.

I think we can use them on other items which of course higher price. That explains why they are giving out rm20 vouchers like dirt.

But if it is possible, then i will be buying their jeans with only rm29.90(discounted price rm49.90, usual price rm99.90). Hahahaa rclxms.gif I dont think that will happen right guys? tongue.gif

Just pass by Fahrenheit just now and saw no queue. Most probably it will start by 6am tomorrow.

Actually ntg much for early birds. Just the first 500 will get the chance to win 5 pairs of ticket to Tokyo, Japan in a lucky draw. And the first 1000 customers will get the chance to own the free bag with minimum purchase of rm200 in a single receipt.

Maybe they are scared the stock will not last long. biggrin.gif

''Each voucher is only valid for ONE MONTH from the date of issue. Only one voucher can be used per purchase.''

I think if you got the voucher today, then your one month duration starts from today. Each email got a date of issue bottom there. Will confirm this tomorrow tongue.gif .

So, what draws people to UNIQLO tomorrow?

1. A chance to win an all-expense-paid for 2 to Tokyo
2. A chance to win a tote bag with a min purchase of RM 200
3. A chance to have a look at the products of a brand that is so famous...
4. A chance to use up the vouchers

anything else? What is it that attracts people tomorrow?

Just go to this website http://www.go-uniqlo.com/ and play the game. Insert any address and then click on the clothes that appear on the map. Simple as that to win those vouchers.

Ryan is right. Today is the last day to win them.

uniqlo opens at 11am but if you dont queue early the line will be longer. From LG escalator to the back near the information counter horizontal zig zag a little

then vertical zig zag to the main entrance. Once outside dont be too happy because still have to zig zag 3 times in front of store.

the only prob is the queue wont move before 11 hence the long wait (Since the store only opens at 11am).

stocks for pants finish quite fast i guess especially the average sizes eg: 30 - 33

T-shirts imo dont look that great maybe because all the good ones were taken but i agree that the quality is good.

I thk the most worthwhile thing is the jeans rm50 for 1 with quality.

Loads of fleece in stock however red colour tend to be popular so not much left. (as of 2.30pm when i left)

erm i dont get what you say '1 item per transaction' i thought that is part of the terms of the voucher. are you trying to say that in 1 transaction since you buy 2 item, you can use 2 voucher in a single transaction is that right?
