Confirm? If got composite, can still change channel using the wireless AV.
*
I don't understand - what relevance does the TV output have with respect to your ability to change channels?

Well better wait for their 'price revision' and new channels then. The pain will come sooner or later so why need to feel it now when benefit is quite little.

I saw the demo at Astro centre. The new decoder is really small! Even smaller than the current one. Picture quality was nice too. Already applied for one, let's see how long it takes to arrive here!

Waahhh.. i'm so excited to finally be able to watch sports in HD.. hehe.. biggrin.gif  anyway, mr anfieldude, about the interlaced signal thingy, do u know how my system will perform, good/normal/poor? i'm using samsung series 5, 37" full hd set. thanks dude!  thumbup.gif

Should be good

QUOTE(binary @ Dec 11 2009, 03:04 PM)
So, if we subscribe with Byond, do we still can watch our existing subscribed channels other than the HD channels???
*
Can. Quality will be better than s-video, component, composite as you'll be using HDMI. No more analog.

QUOTE(leecwai @ Dec 11 2009, 03:27 PM)
I just called Astro to enquire about Astro B.yond. Looks like for other channel without HD will be in aspect ratio of 4:3, so other than the listed channel with HD, you will still see "fat" people. But the Astro facebook mentioned that all will be in 16:9.  rclxub.gif

According to the customer service, Astro B.yond doesn't have the recording function yet like astro max. And I also surprised to know that if you are Astro Max subscriber, you can't swap your decoder and dish for this Astro B.yond. [may be i understood wrongly]
*
Haiya. You want to swap ur max out? You can pay rm 80 and keep it. You can keep old smartcard but u have to pay more/2nd account. If I'm not mistaken the new smartcard cannot use on old box.

QUOTE(barry @ Dec 11 2009, 03:37 PM)
Does anyone know if they will charge for the swapping of the dish? If they do, how much? Also, can anyone here confirm if it will be 720p or 1080i?
*
No charge for dish swap. It would be in 1080i.

QUOTE(leecwai @ Dec 11 2009, 03:39 PM)
They will swap your decoder and dish with installation fee of RM80

But you will need to add RM20/month for the subscription
*
No installation fee but yes add rm 20 to current sub. If u have movie and sport package in ur current sub, u can see hbo hd, supersport hd and espn hd.

looks like it's a puny little dish. expect signal dropouts during raining.
*
lol. about the size of remote? it is 65cm. 5 cm more than current. Of course bigger is better. Typical maximum for Ku is 120cm

QUOTE(binary @ Dec 11 2009, 03:44 PM)
Need to see the real  thing than only can comments about the size and quality. Hope the new dish can reduce the signal loss during raining  sweat.gif
*
Yep. But signal strength depends on your dish alignment, LNB unit sensitivity, dish reflection, cable quality and length. Insist that the technician use spectrum analyzer to align ur dish. I might write a guide on my blog regarding rain fade.

QUOTE(barry @ Dec 11 2009, 03:45 PM)
Okay, now i know. They will charge rm80 for the installation of the new dish, and every month you pay an additional rm20. They are broadcasting in 1080i, so the question remains just badly my old 50" pv80h will perform in deinterlacing the signals.
*
Dun worry you can change the STB settings to 720p and it will deinterlace for you.

This is looking to be a good deal. Can change to the new decoder but still don't want to subscribe to their HD channels?  tongue.gif
*
Cannot. No point of getting new box if didn't subscribe to HD.

QUOTE(robertngo @ Dec 11 2009, 03:46 PM)
does all their HD channel have dobly digital surround sound? only astro supersport mention it.
*
Depend on the source program. If it has, it has.

QUOTE(Qash-M @ Dec 11 2009, 03:47 PM)
Does that mean 4:3 broadcast will have custom black bars for fitting 16:9 TV?
*

You can use black custom bar or you can stretch it into a fat man. Your choice.

QUOTE(Skylinestar @ Dec 11 2009, 03:55 PM)
here's a little quote from astro

imagine hooking up the stb to the tv with hdmi (does it carry video&audio or video only?)...your mom was watching a hd show with DD5.1 (does astro support DD5.1 or just marketing gimmick about surround sound?).....then she complain:"why this channel no sound?" tongue.gif  doh.gif

do you think the stb support downmix of DD?
*
No downmix. U need tv that support dolby or home theather system to hear dolby. Dolby is available on hdmi and spdif. If you didn't have the tv or home theather, you can get stereo through hdmi though or the red and white out.

QUOTE(apexg2 @ Dec 11 2009, 04:22 PM)
white + red + yellow----wut they call this, composite rite?

Component output

HDMI output

USB

if not mistake la...
*
composite/rca.

Output? it got component, hdmi, spdif, composite. usb and ethernet is for input and other thing....

p/s: I got a unit with me. Wanna see the video and pic? BEG. Muahahahaha. brows.gif I'll post if I'm not lazy.
