"1080p: The Ultimate HD Experience
As the leader in HD, DIRECTV now brings you the latest in HD technology: 1080p. The same HD format as Blu-ray Discs, 1080p delivers a picture that's even sharper and smoother than 1080i, especially for movies. The hottest titles are now available in 1080p on DIRECTV on DEMAND. Experience them like never before. "
*
how long has DirecTV been broadcasting HD? Could take just as long, most probably longer for Astro to get to 1080p

clearly you have not seen the latest dvb-s2 decoder.... it can make coffee and toast bread, so if you use it as an alarm clock, when you wake up in the morning, your HD channel switches on, toast and coffee is ready

looks like it's a puny little dish. expect signal dropouts during raining.
*
right, the dish is half the size of the remote.

ROFLMAO!!

QUOTE(robertngo @ Dec 11 2009, 03:46 PM)
does all their HD channel have dobly digital surround sound? only astro supersport mention it.
*
it's probably going to be programme dependent, like in the US - some programmes are in 5.1 some are originally in 2.0

Confirm? If got composite, can still change channel using the wireless AV.
*
I don't understand - what relevance does the TV output have with respect to your ability to change channels?

Well, TM can always lease from ESPN, etc right
*
I don't think that's how it works nowadays - they each bid for exclusive rights to broadcast EPL and it's given to the highest bidder, as usual. So this is what Singtel did and now SG punters have to subscribe to two monopolies. Competition? what competition...

Same for World Cup and other big events

In the end, the highest bidder wins all the rights, and guess who will have to pay for it?

want to ask. im not an astro customer but would like to have the HD. so i need to regiter with standard package(at least) first in order to upgrade to astro byond. currently promotion is rm199 for the decoder (must activate before 15 jan 2010) and free installation. worth?
*
basic package .. I don't think there are any HD channels.

you have to subscribe to movie package, then get HBO HD
add education package, get NatGeo and History channel HD
add sports package, get Supersports HD and in January ESPN HD

I may have the packages name wrong though

QUOTE(neb @ Dec 16 2009, 12:20 AM)
possible way to reduce rain-fade
QUOTE(wiki)
Possible ways to overcome the effects of rain fade are:
1)site diversity,
2)uplink power control,
3)variable rate encoding,
4)receiving antennas larger than the requested size for normal weather conditions,
5)and hydrophobic coatings.
it is interesting to know that NASA's Tracking Data Relay Satellite also uses Ku band signal for both space shuttle tracking and ISS communications
*
that leaves us with #5 ... so what can we do, wax the dish regularly?

I just called astro. Seems that they won't charge the rm80 if we let them take back the old dish and decoder, and that the rm20/month only starts in april.
*
gee, really?

they should put this info in the FAQ.

Wah , that mean if we subscribe now.....even i dont have those movie or sport package, i still can watch all the 5 HD Channel for free until April 2010 just by paying extra RM20 per month?
*
WTF... is the FAQ broken?

http://astro.com.my/byond/faq.asp

QUOTE
What if I am not a sports package subscriber? Will I get ESPN HD and Astro SuperSport HD by paying the access fee?

No. The High-Definition channels are bundled within our existing packages. So if you're not a sports package subscriber, you will not be able to watch ESPN HD and Astro SuperSport HD. To watch your favourite sports in High-Definition, you will have to subscribe to our Sports package on top of the RM20 per month access fee

What you mean by 'broken' ?

I think what is stated is very clear.
*
i thought it was broken because people cant seem to access it, and they keep asking questions whose answers are in the FAQ
