Hi all,

I just cut the following cards:-

2 x HSBC, 1 x EON

and 2 x MBf to go. Super freaking hard to call thru to them! mad.gif vmad.gif
I guess the wake up call from the gomen really encouraged me to make those calls. smile.gif

Cancelled it 2 months ago at Mid Valley Aeon Service Centre, the personnel keep asking me to keep the card for backup but i insist to cancel it. 2 weeks later their CS call me to reconsider their card and will send a new card to me but i m not interested, hehe.

i think it is same also for other card issuer, not specific to cimb bank only

i think not much ppl will purposely keep other bank's card and cancel cimb card just because of its CEO

I plan to keep Amex Gold CC as my main card since its my rebate card.
However I'm having difficulty on my other 2 cards. Should I keep either 1 or cancel both?

1. MBB Petronas:
- Why keep: evergreen points, no shipping charges when redeem gifts, %0 interest installment at many merchants
- Why cancel: no benefit for me

2. DA Master:
- Why keep: 2% petrol rebate (not sure how long will this last)
- Why cancel: points only valid 3 years, shipping charges for gift redemption

Also since insurance do not accept Amex, I not sure if I should move to either card above or pay by cash monthly. Or can I pay insurance premium via debit card?

Anyway just curious for DA, if I cancel the card now and want apply it again in future, do I still need to provide them my degree cert? Can I cancel DA Visa only?

Thanks.

I think is really depend on people. If we want to keep our card we could not avoid this service tax and the only thing we can do is to minimize the number of cards. maybe for some people better to cancel all cards and use debit card rather than paying RM 50 for even for 1 credit card. if debit card has more benefit why not. This will leave only 1 benefit to the CC which is the interest free period of 20 days .

Well debit card might be the way to go, but as some mentioned debit card has their own limitation too:
- some debit card link to your bank account directly, means if lost or theft, all your savings are at risk.
- in case of emergency, you are limited to amount of money available in your account
- I not sure if we can pay insurance premium, or auto bill payment by debit card

depending on your credit card spending, keep 1 credit card is better than using debit card despite the rm50 service tax. the benefit that you can gain from credit card outweight debit card, provided you spend a lot on credit card

ya, MBB card is good, with the on the spot redemption, the point is more worth its value

This RM50 service fee gives banks to "compete" for better promotions to entice cardmembers... that's the plus point I see from PM's prudent idea.

yup I agree. considering possibility of fraud which affect saving and other benefit of CC, it is better to keep at least 1-2. Has to put on our head that this fee could not be avoided and we need to keep the card
