A lot of clients that I train that need to get in shape, will get IN shape to train with weights. I make them learn to manipulate their own bodyweight before even touching ANY weights. Only weights they'll touch is a dumbbell for dumbbell swings during the first few weeks.

Heard that from Rooney (in T-nation). Beginners are not allow to touch those weight until they had their foundation developed, and tat might takes months sometimes lol.

I've no idea who Rooney is. The only Rooney I know is Martin Rooney from MMA. I mean it's true. Think about it.

How many of us actually know how to

- Sprint
- Jump and land properly
- Accelerate from the middle
- Accelerate from the start
- De-accelerate
- Rotate
- Sprint and reverse
- Jump sideways
- Jump up

Many say they know, but when I put them to the "Hand scraping" test, everybody swings the arm like retards. Many can't punch, many don't even know how to squat with their own legs. Once I teach all these, they already feel and perform better just by learning how to mobilize the hips and ankles. I've seen clients that jump first and in mid-air after full triple extension, swing their arm. Like wTF??

Simply put, if you can't push-up, pull-up, do bodyweight squats, dip, pick an egg from the floor without curving your chest in and do dumbbell swings, you've no business trying to squat with a barbell on your back, or bicep curling.

Hi, wanna ask here...I've read about the Rippetoe's guide for beginner[not sure the title d], and he says here that need do squat, deadlift, bench press and etc...but then...i found it too hard for me to handle a barbell[even with the lightest weight i put 5lbs at both side]...
so far im working out at true fitness and my personal trainer taught me lots of training using dumbell and barbell as well, but the barbell he taught be was juz bench press and inclined bench press but using the barbell which attached to two poles one[not sure wat it called, but it help to allign when lifitng the barbell, compare to to the those in power rack where have to balance it when lifting]..
So he told me tat do different parts on different day..like for shoulder he taught me side lateral raise, front raise, shoulder press[using DB] and etc..but he dun really teach me those deadlift or squat yet...so one day...i ask him are u going to teach me how to use those barbell at those power rack....so he say..y dun u try lift it up even with no weights now..so i tried to lift it up and it was very heavy >_<...so should i workout based on DB 1st then only barbell? cause now i can do bench press at the gym using tat sorta aided barbell thingy...but next month i'll be terminating there and join a public gym nearby my hse[rm5 per entry], of coz as u know public gym wont have much machine...but lts of DB and BB...so i sorta scare if i cannot use the BB there ..

Those machine that u mention is smith machine i presume.

I dont know which trainer that u r applying for, but for wat i have seen, some of the trainer seems inexperience (from wat i can tell from wat he did). For instance like, he ask the client to do a dumbell rows, the arms is far away from the body, and the whole should is fly up and down, doing barbell row with bending back (which he didnt point it out to the client).

U can look into youtube for squating which instructed by Rark Ripptoe himself.

If a gym has a power rack, tats already fulfilled 50% of a good gym criteria XD

I believe the bent one you're referring to is an EZ curl bar, which are used for specific exercises only, ie curls and tricep extensions. If you're going to be benching, squatting and/or deadlifting, you want to use the straight barbell.

Since I'm from Penang, that means I cannot join a BB competition in Melaka ie Mr Melaka competition and I only can join in Mr Penang competiiton? Is there such a rule saying I can only join a competition of my native place?

Not at the moment...too busy with studies, plus I've only been training for 4 years. But just now some old guy claimed to be some Mr Malaysia EXCO in the gym told me to join the Penang competition sometime next yr since I'm from Penang and ask if I'm from Melaka coz I think he was finding someone to represent the gym or Melaka I'm not sure. But then I join also sure kena trash la ahahaha.

Never competed before so hehehe not so confident. Plus most of the people are huge so I don't stand a chance for preliminary round also. One HUGE guy from my gym told me that he didn't make it to the preliminary rounds....but he's damn huge...me pula how?
