people fail because of basically 3 reasons.....

1. they did not study.....fool around, distracted, mental problem etc....

2. they are not interested but forced to do, so no motivation....

and msia has a 3rd category unique to msia, and some other 3rd world countries.....

3. they academically and intellectually should NOT be in med school.....but allowed to.....

hi guys, im new here. just noticed this thread today. tongue.gif

btw, need ur opinion and advice guys. is it normal for medical student to fail their exams? i'm studying in egypt in 2nd year.recently i got my exam results, and i failed two paper which are anatomy and histology (fyi, for the 1st and 2nd year, we studied basic anat, histo, biochem, and physio. starting from 3rd year we'll study the pharma, patho and so on.). that means i have to repeat my 2nd year again in my 3rd year in egypt. sad.gif

i can say maybe i didnt study well because of the pressure knowing that i only got 6-7 days only to do all the revisions (and im kinda last minute too.) i love studying medic subjects as its not really hard for me to understand, its just, the last minute studies ruin all my hardwork attending classes for a year.

and also, the things that kinda haunted me right now are, i always think how to face my ex-classmates after this. im too ashamed with my rsults, and i feel like wanna give up. any advice? sad.gif

Actually a lot of doctors say that it's just very hard to get into the course (this is way before the current tsunami of med schools), and that once in the course, if you study consistently and systematically, you will get through every year. Why did you allow yourself only "6-7 days" to revise?

If you want to give up because of pride, then perhaps you should really reconsider continuing with the course. If you can set aside your pride, and are really interested in pursuing the course and the profession, then repeat year 2, study smart and hard. Hope this helps a teeny bit.

Also can I just say "ditto" to limmeu's post above.... smile.gif

Exactly. Consistency is one criteria in studying med. heck, if I leave all my stuff to '6-7' days prior exams, I'll be so so screwed. so, your studying method is wrong, revise it, get it over with, and move on if that's what you truly want.

If you had paid attention and do constant revision, why the need for last minute studies?

To all forummers and esp Limeuu, need your advice.

I have 3A*1A from my recent CIE level and UKCAT of 785. Two of the universities I am thinking of applying to are Kings College and Manchester. Kings College is reputable but very expensive. I am wondering whether is it worth so much to pay for Kings( that is if I get the offer), are all UK universities look upon equally as they are all difficult to get in.

I like Manchester until I found out that it is PBL. Coming from Malaysia where everything is spoon fed, I am a bit worried whether I could cope with it. Any students could explain about it? Is there a lot of differences between PBL and Integrated system?

Shouldn't you be in UK by now or you are applying for the Year 2012 September intake, which is a one year delay.

That's quite a drastic change! Do you mind sharing what brought that on? Thanks.

that is a very drastic change of direction! do you have the requisite science subjects?....

i would not bother with london, unless money is not an issue, or there are other good reasons why you should be in london....manchester is good mid size city with vibrant social/cultural scene and not as expensive.....however, note that some clinical students will be sent to hospitals outside the greater manchester metropolitan area, ie preston.....

don't worry about the style of med education....there are pros and cons to both systems....

pbl and integrated system describe different things, and are not mutually exclusive....integrated system just means vertical integration of knowledge into organ systems, instead of the traditional standalone subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathology etc.....pbl is just guided self learning based on identification of problems and solutions........

as for spoonfeeding, you will learn soon enough how to do self learning........in this respect, programmes like oz year12/sam/ausmat and ib will have prepared the student better in transiting from the didactic teaching of msian schools to modern student-centric goal-focused guided learning of good unis.....

Your college mate - are YOU still in college? I was under the impression that you're in med school or have graduated. Good job contributing consistently in this forum.
