Cardiff has yet to put up their 12/13 fees for international students hence likely they will follow Aberdeen. The UK unis are surely watching the Aussie unis. which start in Feb before they finalise their fees for their Sept 12 intake.

Thanks for correcting the gross error!  blush.gif

So it seems Singaporeans make up a big percentage of the international students, generally. Did UTas keep internationals to around 20 this year, as well?

19 international students as one withdrawn last minute. tongue.gif A number of the Sin students have unconditional offer from UK med schools but decided to go to Aus. As they needed to go to NS after preu they have plenty of time to decide.

Last year's intake has about 30 to 40  students from MUFY and quite a number are JPA sponsored.

Where does the majority come from? STPM should be just a handful; A levels, SAM, Ausmat etc? I know a few who are from A levels and did not manage to secure places in UK.( a guy in the current cohort turned down Bristol medical school unconditional offer.)

It is not so much of a drop in standards, the syallbus is the same and they sit for the same exams and markings are moderated. (Its the same for law and accountancy exams; for those Malaysian students who sit for the same exams as their UK counterparts, there should not be much difference and you would actually see Malaysian students among the price winners on a regular basis! We treat exams more seriously than most others.) Its the unfortunate thing for these borderline cases who will have problems even getting past Year 1!

If you read brigthsparks forum, you will fast conclude that NUS remains their first preference, unless it's Oxbridge. So yeap, save for Oxbridge, the rest are also NUS rejects. Kiasu nation looks at rankings, and when demand numbers become smaller, they will kiasu-select.

Yes, I noticed the NS boys will normally apply for a deferral, and some unis do not allow that. So how many malaysians among the 19? I think it's a good sized cohort, just about 119/120 total, including the domestics right?

according to relative, counted 4 ( 1 girl and 3 guys)so far among the 19.not too sure about the size of the whole cohort but did not look too big and some may not have turned up yet.

Possible for senior doctors not to be too abusive to their juniors since its not overload n overworked. No doubt, quality has dropped but changes are necessary to at least to reduce the effect.

I don't know whether it's true that trainee doctors fearful of the wrong diagnosis n treatment n the resulting consequences can sometimes drive them nuts. A young graduate doing his housemanship in NZ called the mother on a regular basis crying n trembling in the first 6 months putting more stress on the parents over here with them scrambling for remedies including spiritual advice.

Good to have a parent who is a doctor or like Podrunner ....definitely a massive advantage to secure a place in medical school[s] and for medical career.
