Just asking.
Is there currently controversies or negative sides of the Irish medical programmes, especially the Royal College?
Any inflations, or downside to it?

QUOTE(limeuu @ Sep 25 2011, 01:29 PM) i think you will be onelove's batchmate then..... You're right, actually we 'met' here before reaching Tas. Our year was about 15-20. So I assume it's about there. Not to be ungrateful to my home country, but I am overseas for a reason, to learn. It would be way better if I could secure an internship here =). Just hope for the best by then. Right now, concentrate in facing the darned exams.i am quite sure the houseman job situation will be sorted out....at worst, just apply for regional hospitals.....even monash msia grads are getting offers in regional vic...... how many international students do utas take a year? what's their total intake nowadays? |

Around 15-20 international students, sometimes a lil more than that, and around 110-120 per batch including repeats. really hope that they'll open up more intern spots soon.

If internship spots are not dealt with, then I would think Australia will lose out in medical tuition fees from international students, fees which are really partially funding aussie and aussie pr medical students. |

You can't possibly explain everything that you learn the 1st time, none of the books does that. I suggest you to memorise the facts 1st and along clinical years you can get the explanations for most of the facts you learnt previously. doctors are supposed to know the diagnosis and treatment, but knowing the pathophysiology makes learning more fun, and can be useful to answer your prof's questions during ward rounds. eg. in molar pregnancy, one of the symptoms includes symptoms of hyperthyroidism, WHY is it so???? .. N in things like this, how do we actually go search for the pathophysiology of this kinda tiny biny symptoms related to the huge disease? are we doctors supposed to know about it??? anywhere, the explanation for the example you brought up is Human chorionic gonadotropin bears structural homology to pituitary thyrotropin. The extremely elevated levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in patients with molar pregnancy or other trophoblastic diseases can lead to hyperthyroidism. http://www.endocrine-abstracts.org/ea/0014/ea0014p443.htm Added on September 29, 2011, 3:28 pmon a side note, i always remember molar pregnancy as having 2 hyper and 2 PE. Hyperthyroidism, Hyperemesis gravidarum, Pulmonary Embolism and Pre- Eclampsia. Hope it helps. This post has been edited by wgy589: Sep 29 2011, 03:28 PM |

hi guys, im new here. just noticed this thread today.
btw, need ur opinion and advice guys. is it normal for medical student to fail their exams? i'm studying in egypt in 2nd year.recently i got my exam results, and i failed two paper which are anatomy and histology (fyi, for the 1st and 2nd year, we studied basic anat, histo, biochem, and physio. starting from 3rd year we'll study the pharma, patho and so on.). that means i have to repeat my 2nd year again in my 3rd year in egypt. i can say maybe i didnt study well because of the pressure knowing that i only got 6-7 days only to do all the revisions (and im kinda last minute too.) i love studying medic subjects as its not really hard for me to understand, its just, the last minute studies ruin all my hardwork attending classes for a year. and also, the things that kinda haunted me right now are, i always think how to face my ex-classmates after this. im too ashamed with my rsults, and i feel like wanna give up. any advice? |
