Before you update yours E71! (or other S60 phones) Published November 19, 2008 e71 , mobile , nokia , nokia e71 , software Tags: nokia, nokia e71, e71, symbian, mobile, phone, s60, technology, nokia software update, software update
Nokia E71 after software updateOK I’ve got mine phone finally updated, but I thought it is a good idea to write - how to make software update as least harmful for the user as possible?
What do I need to do before changing software?
Please keep in mind to have a battery fully charged. I really mean it! Yesterday Nokia Software Update tool was trying to download the update at least several times before it was successful. Why? Most probably servers were busy and transfer has been interrupted several times. All this time your phone is connected to your PC using USB cable in PC Suite mode. Remember that the phone’s battery is not recharging at this time.
Make your personal data safe! Do you synchronize your phone with your Outlook, or other PIM applications via PC Suite? Yes? That’s good, but it’s NOT enough! Using PC Suite create a full backup copy before starting upgrading process. What about files and applications installed in your phone memory? The BEST, FASTEST and EASIEST way of saving your personal data is making a copy of your phone memory on a memory card. Please make by choosing: Tools > Memory > Options > Back up Phone Memory and wait until it will be competed.
The final step is making your memory card safe as well. If you use any ciphering or coding tools please remove passwords and switch it off, because in other way after update the card might be inaccessible. To be sure about the card I simply removed it from the phone before running NSU tool.
Please take care about a computer using for software update as well. Use only build-in USB ports, instead of those in docking stations or hubs. If you are using laptop make use it’s battery is fully enough to support whole process. Be aware of stability of your system too! It is wise to close all applications which could make system crash during updating your phone.
How to behave during the process?
Be patient and don’t panic! As NSU suggests do not interrupt the process by disconnecting phone from your computer or closing application. As I said it might happen that the NSU downloading process will be interrupted. Simply please try again.
It is no longer my phone!
Right, after successful update process your phone will be as new as taken out of the box. No contacts, photos, or applications. The fastest way to restore it is to use memory card with a copy done before. Use path: Tools > Memory > Options > Restore from card. Few minutes and it is done! Most of your information and applications installed in phone memory should be back. It may happen that some of them disappear or won’t be running properly. Just reinstall those apps, some of them might ask for serial number again.
What if something went wrong? It just happens, so please do not panic, don’t blame yourself and contact your local Nokia Care Center for assistance.

E71 Battery Tips

1. Set your Network Mode to GSM Mode when not using 3g. When your running low on battery life, or you don't get a 3g connection in your area, improve your battery life by changing your network mode to GSM only. 3g is best for internet use and is the best way to go for voice as well, but GSM ain't that bad for voice. If I'm not planning on using the internet and I'm running low on battery, I'd shut 3g off. This will stop your phone from searching constantly for a 3g signal that might not even exist in your area or be spotty.
2. Change Your Screen Display Settings. These Nokia handsets already have bright and beautiful screens. There's no need to keep the light set to the brightest possible setting when your trying to be battery consious. That will drain your battery fast! Then again, I don't like my screen dim and dull either. I set mine to the setting right below the highest. It keeps the screen bright and sharp, and does a lot to save on battery life.
Also, set your light time-out to something lower like 30 seconds. You'd be surprised at how much an extra 20 seconds at a time can drain your battery. Say you touch your phone 200 times throughout the day. Thats an extra 40 minutes your backlight is on if you keep at 60 seconds, as apposed to 40 seconds.
And when your on that very last bar, just suck it up and turn your brightness all the way down. It should add a good deal of time to the small amound of life you have left.
3. Don't Leave Applications Running When Unused. Keeping applications open in the background when your not using them can be costly to your battery. A lot of times, new S60 owners don't know that if you don't properly close out of the application, it will just get minimized to the background. Hold down the Home/Menu button for 3 seconds to pull up your task manager.
4. Turn Off WLAN Scanning if your not using it. If you don't turn this off, your phone will always be searching for a hotspot and waste battery life. It's just not necessary unless your near a known hotspot browsing the web.
5. Don't use your bluetooth headset if you absolutely don't have to. Alot of people use bluetooth constantly, but this will really get your battery working. After the work day is over and you end up hitting the bars, leave your bluetooth in the car and do your best to conserve your E71 battery. It really sucks when you don't have a car charger. Source

According to our thread members, most of the version 300 firmware user lasted about 1-2 days under heavy to medium usage, while version 200 and below firmware lasted them 2-5 days under medium to heavy usage.. although this is down to each person, on how they use their set. for example me, i m still at version 200. but my battery only lasted me d most 1.5 days, y? edge surfing all day long, garmin usage most of the day, but some user able to achieve more than i do, y? as they r light user, smsing, and calls most of d times will enable ur E71 to last more than 2 days easily provided u r on gsm or utms only (strong 3g signal area). wifi, gps, edge will surely eat into ur battery life.. so makin through d days jus barely, from my experience, maximum gps usage b4 a full charge e71 battery go flat is 6-7 hour, maximum edge usage is 8-9 hour<--(i m not talking email retrieving, more toward web surfing), wifi surfing 4-5 hour or more, as i have never tried it yet.. so what to do to get the most out of ur bp-4l 1500 mAh battery? 1) Switch to gsm only if u r not a 3g user or not on 3g coverage area 2) Garmin version upgrade to version 5.04 and above and disable the background service

(i) wat is NEP? - it enable u to c ur battery real capacity (some battery have capacity issue hence less life) - it enable u to c under ur current usage how long ur battery able to last - it enable u to plan ur usage toward ur battery level..etc lah.. 4) If u are a AP set highly advice u to install NEP to check ur battery capacity as some user have reported battery capacity only showing 600mAh short battery life and faulty battery level readings 5) Check ur battery connection area (the golden copper ) some battery (mine) hav this issue, found out myself my copper plat is not at it perfect position hence battery life also will drop. 6) Do a soft reset or better a hard reset after ur firmware update 7) Problem still persist: go to ur nearest NOKIA centre and get ur set fixed.

How To Lock Down Your Personal Information Remotely
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
One of the concerns that I hear repeated often is, ‘What happens if someone finds or steals my phone?’ The concern is definitely valid – we store all sorts of confidential information on our phones, and if someone were to gain access to our phones, they would likely have more information than we would like them to have. No worries, though, the Nokia E71 provides a built-in feature to remotely lock down the device, so that prying eyes cannot access your contacts, calendar, or anything else.
To set this up, you’ll need to go into the Tools folder, and open Settings. From there, open ‘General’, and scroll down to ‘Security’. Click once more to open ‘Phone and SIM card’, and scroll down to ‘Allow remote lock’. When you change this to ‘Yes’, you’ll be asked a series of questions:
First, you’ll need to specify a secret message. This is a word that you will send to your phone, from another phone, in the case that it’s stolen. This should be something unique, that you will remember. You will then be asked to re-enter the same word, for verification.
After that, you will be asked to enter the 5-digit security code (which is 12345). You can change this to a new, custom security code by choosing ‘Lock Code’ above the ‘Allow Remote Lock’ field. This can be any number, and will be the only way to unlock the device, so don’t pick anything obvious, such as 12345 or something. If the thief can guess it, then it was useless.
Once setup is complete, you are secure. In the case that your phone is lost or stolen, simply send an SMS from any phone to your phone, with your secret word in it to lock the phone down. Whoever has your phone will be unable to do *anything* on the phone until they have correctly entered the 5 digit security code to unlock the phone. This code will also be required if they power the phone off, or change the SIM card – there’s no way for them to get around it, so your information is safe. Of course, this does not help you get your phone back, but at least your private information will be safe.
How To: Avoid Application And Theme Installation Issues
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
So, we’ve shown you a handful of fun themes for your new E71, and highlighted a few applications here and there. However, alot of you are reporting issues with installation, so I figured it would be good to put together a walkthrough of sorts. First, the basics – your Nokia E71 is using S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1. You may also see this written as S60v3 FP1 in some places. This means you can install and use any application written for S60 3rd Edition. These themes and applications usually end with ‘.sisx’ or just ‘.sis’, and can be found all over the internet. My favorite place to get applications, though, is the S60.com website, which has a great Applications directory. To install these applications and themes, you can simply Bluetooth the file to yourself, or store it on your phone’s memory card, and use the File Explorer application to navigate to the file, and simply click on it to open. Installation will start immediately, and you’re all set! But wait, what if you get an error? There are 2 reasons you may get an error, with 2 very simple solutions. The first is if your phone is set to restrict the types of applications that can be installed, and the other has to do with the certificate used to sign the application or, more frequently, the theme. The first thing you should check is to make sure that your phone is set to allow any application to be installed. To do this, you can go into your Installations folder, and open the ‘App Manager’. Now press your left softkey to open the Options menu, and arrow down to ‘Settings’. It’s completely safe for you to change the first option (Software Installation) to ‘All’, instead of ‘Signed Only’. Once you have done this, try to install the application or theme again. If you are still having issues, it could be due to the expiration date of the certificate used to sign the theme or application. To resolve this, simply go into your Settings and change the date of your phone to 2007. Now, proceed with the installation again, and don’t forget to change your clock back when you’re done! You should now be able to install nearly any application or theme on your phone without any issues, as long as it is a signed application.
HOW TO PLAY QUAKE ON E71
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Most of you are probably rather disappointed with the gaming on your Nokia E71. Since it’s not supported by N-Gage, and the landscape screen orientation makes finding good java games slightly difficult, I thought you’d be rather excited to find out that Quake is now available for your Nokia E71! That’s right, the age-old classic indeed runs on the Nokia E71, as you can see in this video below.

Do you use video ringtones on your E71? I admit I haven’t used it so far. One of blog readers sent me a link to his video ringtone based on Metal Solid Gear theme. If you are interested in check it on You Tube.
If you like it you can download one of versions: 320×240 3GP file , or 320×183 3GP file optimized for SkyCaller Pro application as the author said. I’m curious how many users of E71 are using pictures attached to phonebook contacts (I do) or video ringtones?
Reasonable dealing with data transmission on E71
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
E71fanatics.com blog analyzing how much data the use of A-GPS with Nokia E71 is consuming. Some time ago I was also afraid about the amount of data transferred when the phone is communicating with base stations to accelerate fixing my GPS position. As we all now know from the mentioned post, it is not so bad. But what if you don’t have a flat data rate, or you have only a small data package available, like 50 megabytes monthly? If you start A-GPS (for example by using application like Nokia Maps) it will consume less than 10 kilobytes and your phone will finish packet data connection. Nevertheless, you will pay for a whole data billing unit, which could be 50, 100 or even 500 kilobytes, depending on your operator rates. How to avoid it?The solution is really, really simple. After waking up (YES, I turn off my phone when I sleep, weird isn’t it?) I simply start native Nokia web browser (by long pressing 0 key) and I connect to GPRS/EDGE or 3G data domain using standard GPRS access point (called APN, in my case it is ‘Era Internet’). When I finish morning browsing, I simply hide browser by pressing Home key. What happens? The connection is maintained, but almost no transmission is done, because a web page is already fully loaded. Now let’s imagine you want to check your e-mail account, or use Nokia Maps (which is using A-GPS). When the chosen application starts, it asks you to choose an APN to be used for this software. Now choose the same, which was used for the native browser. What will happen? Data session opened for the browser will be activated, but within the same billing unit. Leave the application, leaving browser still working in a background and voila! You have found a very saving way to use data transmission. My experience shows that doing it in such a way I can check my email several times during a day, plus use A-GPS, browser, or IMs and all those actions could be done without exceeding 500 kilobytes. Now an obvious question may come to your mind. Does it have impact on battery uptime? The answer is yes, but very moderate. In comparison, this effect is much smaller than in case of push mail application using packet transmission more often. Of course if you use a flat rate it does not make sense to act this way, but for more economic usage of data transmission, Symbian S60 proves to have a really good, helpful connection manager. I’m very curious if you have any other way to save your phone bill?

Problems With Nokia Messaging? Try These Troubleshooting Tips
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Nokia released an update to their Nokia Messaging application (email.nokia.com), bringing support for Windows Live Hotmail and HTML email to S60 Nokia devices. I got my hands on the pre-release version of Nokia Messaging for the 5800 if you're interested in seeing the screenshots. It's still a little buggy but it's coming along nicely.
Even with these announced updates to Nokia Messaging many people are still having problems getting their email set up properly. Check out the follow tips from the Nokia Messaging team... Trouble Logging In If you're having trouble logging in, remember that your Nokia Messaging username and password are the same as the email address and email address password that you used to sign up for Nokia Messaging with. Setting Up IMAP Folders In order to sync your IMAP subfolders, Log into your account on email.nokia.com, and select the Edit settings link next to an email address for which you would like to sync additional folders.
Where To Get Nokia Messaging Depending on the model and/or firmware version of your Nokia device, you may have Nokia Messaging preloaded on your device. If you are in a country where Nokia Messaging is available, the E-Mail setup application on your phone will setup your email address within Nokia Messaging. As an alternative, you can sign up for Nokia Messaging at email.nokia.com. You can also download it from your mobile browser. Problems Syncing Check the "sync while roaming" setting if you are experiencing connection problems. HTML Support Nokia Messaging handles rich formatted text and lighter HTML-formatted emails very well. Within some larger messages, you may notice some irregular scrolling and selecting behavior.
We will continue to work on improving HTML rendering in the future. How To Edit Advanced Settings Of Nokia Messaging You can now edit your email settings: while signing up for a Nokia Messaging account, you are now able to include the outgoing mail server as part of advanced settings. Users with a Nokia Messaging account are now able to edit their email server settings from the My Account page.
This will be helpful if you are experiencing difficulty sending or receiving emails, or feel like your email provider settings were not discovered correctly. Personally I haven't had any problems with Gmail or Mail on Ovi accounts in the past few weeks. But from reading many comments around the internet like these from E71Fanatics.com it seems like it's a hit or miss. For more discussion and troubleshooting help you can visit the Nokia Support Forums. Hope this helps everybody out!

How To Add Unicode Fonts to Symbian
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
If you are like me, who got a Nokia E71 with only English but wants to view contents in other languages - e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Korean (CJK), Russian, Hindi, etc. then you will be in a bit of strife.
According to Nokia forum, there is no way that you can install an extra language package on Nokia. You'd have to go to Nokia Care to have them install it for you, for a fee!
Fortunately, the Symbian guru oasisfeng has created a wonderful software called FontRouter. The latest incarnation of the software is the FontRouter LT.
Also download the TrueType font from the same web site: 【TrueType】方正隶变 GBK字体. This contains all the CJK characters(should contain other european characters too). Note that I tried using other Chinese TrueType fonts and my handset failed to start. So experiment with other .ttf files only after you have successfully installed and tested with this one. I am currently using the 方正准圆(FZY3JW.TTF) which is a Chinese true type font and its English characters are very close to the original font on my Nokia E71. There is also a MOD (FZY3JW.TTF) contribute by sc4bbk
Step 2 - Signing the Software
Symbian is pretty rigorous when it comes to security. Software needs to be digitally signed before installing onto the phone. You can try installing the .sis file just as it is and your phone will reject it and complain that the digital certificate/signature is invalid or something of that nature. To sign the file you just downloaded, you will have to go to www.symbiansigned.com. On its front page, there is a URL for openSignedOnline (Beta). Click this URL and fill in the form on the following page. Note:
* The IMEI number uniquely identifies your handset (e.g. if your phone is stolen, you can report it to the carrier and they can bar the IMEI from the network so that the thief cannot use it). You can find it out by 'dialing' *#06# * Email - make sure you use a valid email address because you will need to retrieve email from Symbian to carry out the next steps. * The Application is the .sis file you just downloaded from FontRuter.
Upon successful submission of the form, Symbian will send you an email with a URL to confirm the submission. Click it.
Then Symbian will send you another email with a URL to download the signed version of the .sis file. Just click the URL and save the file.
Step 3 - Installation
Now you can install the signed version of the software that you just downloaded from Symbian using PC Suite. Make sure you install it on the Memory Card, NOT on the Phone Memory (otherwise, if it hangs your handset, you will not be able to bring your phone back to life). During installation, it will warn you that your phone is incompatible with the software, just ignore it and continue.
Then copy the fzlb_gbk.ttf file downloaded in Step 1 into the Memory Card's \data\Fonts directory. You will notice that the file FontRouter.ini has also been created in this directory by the software installation process.
Now it is time to modify the FontRouter.ini file. You can use the Windows Nodepad to edit a copy of the file and then copy it onto the handset using PC Suite. Modify the two lines of the .ini file as following:
FixFontMetrics=0 FixCharMetrics=0
changed the values from 0 to 1 like this:
FixFontMetrics=1 FixCharMetrics=1
and leave everything else the same. If you don't make the changes, the fonts will be curtailed either from the top or bottom.
That's it. Phew! Now it's time to test it - bounce the phone (i.e. switch it off then on). Euphoria!
HAving Untrusted software found in memory card msg pop during restarting phone???

ok guys. this is the solution if u have this msg popup "untrusted software found in memory card, to install go to application manager"
SOLUTION:
Delete the entire folder of 10202DCE. (e:\private\10202DCE)
The msg popup will never happen again.
But it didn't solve my email problem.
If u have the same email problem like mine (email notification missing from homescreen)
all u gotta do (if u use gmail) is to ARCHIVE YOUR OLD MAILS. apparently the E71 stop recognising when there are too many mails in the inbox.
once done, restart ur phone and retrieve all new emails. VIOLA! DONE! Email notification is back in your homescreen! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Sync your outlook calendar to your E71 using Google calendar

for those of you who would like to sync your outlook calendar to your E71 but can't, due to company policies which does not allow your E71 to connect to your company's exchange server. No worries!! because i've found a way to overcome it smile.gif
Things that you need: 1. Gmail/Google calendar account 2. Google calendar sync application installed in your laptop that you use for outlook 3. E71 with MfE installed
In a nut shell, how it works is that the Google calendar application will sync your outlook calendar from your laptop to your google calendar account. you then create a MfE profile in your E71 to sync with your Google calendar. Presto...you're all set smile.gif

1. Best TaskMan also shows UID for installed applications. You need it (save somewhere characters after "0x"). 2. Connect your phone to PC in data transfer mode and then navigate to \Private\10003a3f\import\apps\NonNative\Resource folder on your memory card. File <UID>_loc.rsc contains the name of MBM file in the same folder that should be removed. Then remove <UID>_loc.rsc and <UID>_reg.rsc files.
The icon of "Opera Mini" should disappear from installed applications menu.
Good luck.

As you all know I am a huge fan of the Nokia E71 and primarily just pop the devices in my pants and shirt pockets. With their slim form factor and stainless steel casing I have not yet had any issue with damage and wasn’t really looking for any type of case. I then saw one of my favorite case makers, OtterBox, announce the Nokia E71 Impact Case. After using it for a week on my E7. I have to say this is a very nice silicone case that gives you some decent bump and shock protection, along with another nice surprise I was not expecting. In the box The OtterBox E71 Impact Case comes in a clear plastic container with some OtterBox black and yellow colored materials listing the features and directions for using the case. Thankfully it is not one of those impossible to open plastic containers either and is actually simply to separate into two halves. There is a thin piece of cardboard in the shape of the E71 inside the silicone case. I took the case out and then pulled out the written materials. I was surprised to find that there was also a screen protector inside the package, along with a installation card and small cleaning cloth. I had actually been looking for a screen protector to keep the display scratch-free while it is stored in my pocket. Case features The case is made of black soft silicone material that feels great in your hand. The silicone is textured on the sides and around part of the back. The words OtterBox are embedded on the back center of the case. There are opening for the camera and flash, microSD and microUSB slots, speaker, charging port, microphone, 2.5mm headset jack and infrared port. There are clearly identified areas stamped into the silicone for the power button, volume buttons, and Push to Talk center button. I found pressing these areas easily performed the action intended by pressing the button. The entire front is open so you can view the display and use the keyboard without any hindrance. The case measures 4.61 inches x 2.44 inches x 0.68 inch and weighs just 0.79 ounces. Using the case The malleable silicone case is very easy to put on the Nokia E71 as you simply place either the top or bottom of the E71 into the case and then pull up the other end over the end of the E71. The case is held on the E71 by just over 1/2 inch on each end of the device, down to the top of the display and up to the bottom of the keyboard. The screen protector has two pieces of protective film with sticker tabs on each side that you can easily remove to mount the protector. The screen protector is easy to place on the display, uses self-adhesive, and is made of durable plastic that seems to do a great job at protecting the display. I was still able to pop the E71 in my pants and shirt pockets with the case, but felt a bit better setting the E71 down on the table since I knew it would not slide around and would be protected a bit from bumps. The case adds very little to the E71 so you don’t have to sacrifice size much to get some protection. There is no belt clip for this case, but I moved away from using belt clip cases just over a year ago and instead put my devices in my pockets or in my gear bag instead so I am not holding this against any case I try out. If you are looking for a good silicone case, this is one of the best I have tried with reasonably thick silicone that feels very durable. I like the textured pieces that seem to give you a better grip on your device too. The screen protector is a nice addition to the package that gives you some front protection. I highly recommend E71 owners give this case a try if they are looking for some type of protection at a reasonable price. Price and availability The Nokia E71 Impact Case is sold through the OtterBox website:HERE for $19.95. It comes only in black, which matches the E71 perfectly. Their cases have a one year limited warranty against defects.

A few days ago I received Alu Case for Nokia E71 from PDair.com, so as soon as possible I’m sharing my impressions with you!
The case looks fine, it’s solid, made of well finished metal, with special neoprene lining inside, to prevent phone from scratching, or moving inside the case. It fits the phone almost perfectly and it has holes for all ports, or side buttons plus a plastic glass covering phone screen. The phone’s function keys and QWERTY keyboard are not covered of course. The only functional issue which I have noticed is the access to top function keys as the case’s edge makes it little uncomfortable to reach those keys with you thumb.
You can use the case as it comes or make it wearable on your belt. You can use a special belt clip and mount it with a screw, which you can attach to the case. The mount mechanism works fine, the clip is holding belt well, it’s possible to rotate the phone around the mount, and to remove only if you press special button.
Unfortunately, the case is made of aluminum and as several-day-long test proved that the phone is loosing two or three bars of its signal indicator because the metal covering is screening network’s radio waves. It happens for both 2G and 3G modes. As a result it was difficult or even impossible to make or receive phone calls in places with poor network coverage. It also has huge impact on GPS functionality, as satellite signal is much weaker than mobile network waves. The conclusion is that the case will for sure make your phone safer but it can also make calling less comfortable. Moreover, the case screening feature probably increases phone’s power consumption and shortens battery life.

FreeTimeBox Adds Time To Your E71
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
One of the benefits of S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 on the Nokia E71x for AT&T is that there is a clock shown on nearly every single screen of the phone. This is definitely handy, as you can always quickly see what time it is, and something that’s missing on our E71, with just S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1. Never fear, our friends at E71Fanatics have found the solution with FreeTimeBox, a fully-signed application from the developer of Free-iSMS that adds this time to your menus, and lets you customize it, too! As you can see below, you can adjust the location of the clock, so that it doesn’t get in the way of other labels on your phone. You can also synchronize this clock with your device’s clock, or you can use Internet Time to get it just right, if you want. FreeTimeBox can be set to automatically load when you turn your phone on, and can also conveniently be hid from the task manager, so that you don’t accidentally close it. You can change the font used, as well as the size and color, along with a host of other options. The best thing, though, is that you can also specify whether or not this clock shows up in specific applications. If you want to disable it only in the Web Browser, you can easily do that, or you can set other 3rd party applications. This is easily one of the best freewares for the E71, currently. DOWNLOAD HERE
Nokia Updates Photo Browser For The E71

Recently, Nokia launched a new photo browsing application, simply called Nokia Photo Browser, for its touchscreen smartphones, like the 5800 XpressMusic and the upcoming N97. However, yesterday, they updated the application for non-touchscreen smartphones, such as our favorite E71! The Nokia Photo Browser makes it much easier and faster to browse through your photos by presenting them in a flowing grid layout. You can use the d-pad to manuever through the grind, and then click to zoom in on a specific image. The left softkey brings up the options menu, including the face tracking feature. Face tracking is useful if you have a photo with several faces, you can scroll through the faces individually, with the software automatically zooming in on each face. The right softkey exits the application. You can download Nokia Photo Browser: HERE for the E71 straight from the Beta Labs. Here’s a video of the application as it looks on the 5800 XpressMusic:
PhoNetInfo Gives All Your E71 Information In One Place

If you’re looking for a great utility application for the Nokia E71 then PhoneNetInfo should be on your list. It’s a very simple application that gives you all the numbers, specs, and info about your E71. Best of all, it’s free. Details: PhoNetInfo retrieves detailed phone and network information such as firmware version; IMSI; IMEI; SIM card and battery status; WLAN IP, MAC, MTU and speed, bluetooth MAC and device class; network mode, name, signal strength, (cell) ID and country code; CPU speed, type and architecture; RAM and ROM; running tasks; MMC & SD Card; supported camera formats, etc. Thanks to the developer Patrick Frei for making such a useful application. One great use is the “copy to clipboard” function. It comes in handy when I need to send someone my IMEI number via text message or email from my E71. I also love how it gives me the battery level as a percentage. Check out a few screenshots: I didn’t show all the screenshots, just the most important ones. If this application is extremely valuable to you please consider leaving the developer a small donation. I know many of you will ask if this works on the Nokia E71. I’m not 100% sure, but I assume it will. Maybe one of you can verify for us. Download The basic version is already signed and can be installed straight away. A more advanced version is unsigned. Personally the basic version is enough for me, and that’s the version I used for these screenshots. Click HERE to visit the download page
How To Take A Screenshot On The Nokia E71

Here is one I haven’t covered. Many Nokia E71 and E71x users have asked me how I take my screenshots for the articles here at the blog. It’s quite simple actually thanks to a very kind Symbian developer named Antony. Why Take A Screenshot? Maybe you want to show a friend how to do something via email. Maybe you want to post in the E71 forums a screenshot with a problem you might be having or an application review. Download Screenshot By Antony Click HERE to visit his website and download the application. Version 3.01 works just fine even though it isn’t listed. I recommend using the <X backspace key as the shortcut since the E71 doesn’t have a dedicated camera key.
E71 Shortcuts: Create Dozens Of Custom Key Combos To Launch Nearly Any App Or Task
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
We buy these Nokia smartphones because Symbian is one of the most customizable operating systems right? Well I’m going to show you an E71 AND E71x application that will let you to take it to the next level and create our own custom key combinations to launch anything from applications, files, bookmarks, or even start a sms to a specific contact. I’ve been using this application for a few months now (I know I’m lagging on the review) and it has pretty much transformed the way I use my device. The application is called Cute Keys. It allows you to create keyboard shortcuts that perform specific actions. With Cute Keys you can create shortcuts for following actions: • Open chosen application installed on the mobile • Open selected file or document • Call a certain recipient • Open selected contact from your contact book • Change Bluetooth status • Send SMS/MMS/email to selected recipient • Browse selected website Description: Every shortcut is set of two, three, or even four buttons on your mobile keyboard. Mostly you can use two buttons, one of which is a special button, and the second one is a number button. Mobiles with QWERTY keyboard allow more possibilities; there you can create the shortcuts similar as you do on your PC. There is no limit for the number of shortcuts created, their number is only limited by the hardware. Please note: You can not use two number buttons in one shortcut, you have to use at least one special button or joystick. As you can see in the first screenshot I have a shortcut to my Google application and a few shortcuts to send a text to various contacts. I use the spacebar + any number to launch whatever applications I want. For sms shortcuts I use the @ + any number. Keep in mind it’s not good to use the shift or function keys since we already use those when typing. The great thing about Cute Keys is I can launch whatever task or application I want from any screen. Now I don’t have to dig through the menu or contact list. This can make us extremely efficient. It’s just a matter of memorizing our shortcuts. To make that easier for instance to send an sms to Nick, I made the shortcut @ + 9 which is also @ + N. I suppose I should make all of my shortcuts like that so it’s easier to remember. While Cute Keys is not free, it is worth the $9.99 you have to drop to keep the full version after the 10 day trial period expires. The free 10 day trial period gives you the FULL experience of Cute Keys, nothing is left out. So it can’t hurt to try it right? Click HERE: to learn more about Cute Keys by SymbianGuru Click HERE : to download it directly to your Nokia E71 or E71x

The Nokia E71 has a nice cameras, it has 3.2 Megapixels, Flash and Autofocus, the results and pictures are most of the times very cool and with nice quality, but sometimes you never get those pictures out of your device because lack of time or you just forget. Thats the problem I always had, I take really nice pics with my E71 but then I never transfer them to my PC and ultimately, they always get lost. But Nokia launched a very cool software for the E71 that will avoid that and will make your E71 a better imaging device. It is called Imge Exchange and so far I am loving it, with this application for the E71, you can do more here is how it works. Normally, when you take a picture the device just saves it to the device memory, but with this app your device transfers automatically and immediately all the pictures you take to both your E71 and to your OVI account! And they are synchronized, so when you delete a picture in your E71, the application will delete it on your account too, so with this application you can automatically synchronize the media from your E71 and your PC. With this app you won’t ever loose a picture again because they will be transfered to your OVI profile immediately, with this app you can also comment and see the pictures of your friends and other people. To get this app in your E71 just head over to: here

to upload pictures to FB, you don't have to use 3rd party software. just register at mobile FB, and they will then send you an email account specifically for you.
when you wanna upload your mobile pics to FB, just attach the pictures and send an email to the email account that FB provided you and your pics will be uploaded.
1. login to your facebook. 2. click on settings. 3. click on Mobile. 4. you should be able to see a link called "Go To Facebook Mobile", click on it.
you should be able to see your personal upload email link
xxxx@m.facebook.com
easy breezy!

Well, i think V4 it's so far quite comprehensive. If anything lack i suggest is "software discussion on E71" but xavi somehow included link to the software & some with reviews.
There's a question regarding memory card on E71. Actually if we update firmware / soft reset...i notice some software will "auto install" in the E71, cause of the software is in memory card. (I think)
Anyone have idea how does the S60 system work here?
Example case i can think of : 1) The "installation" file is "pre- installed" in the memory card (maybe use other software or technic), so when we update firmware...the program auto can auto install back.
2) The program "working file" is "install" in memory card..so it install back to the phone after reset.
Reason y i like to find out is i notice it. so if next time i can "make" the memory card to auto install more program that i've "SET" to be my frequent use programs when i update firmware or soft reset...and...SAVE time no need Re-install all program.

software discussion? hmm.. discussion can be done in the thread ma.. wat i can do is jus prepare some software review and recommendation as a topic stater on a discussion only .. auto installed? well in will be in ur application manager but i assume u cant access it right? not possible to make memory card to auto install all lor.. even ur computer cant do tat , correct me if i m wrong.. .. normally if reformat computer u also need to reinstall everything 1 by 1 de ma.. not meh?
Calcool77 paiseh la .. will do my best to keep it going..
i updated my maps to the nokia ovi maps 3.0. however, when i press support in ovi maps 3.0 chinese help topics came out. how ah? the software is in english except for the help topics for the map 3.0

Yeah, about PC u have a point, cause that is OS and software. But i sure u notice that after firmware update, it'll appear "installation in progress", then the previous app is in the phone already. Just wonder how it do it. is it preinstall in memory card? My E71 comes with worldmate, msn, top solitaire in the phone, when i update firmware, on 1st startup the "installation in progress" will come out and direct install back to phone.
Assume those comes with Nokia default memory card of E71, so my thinking is wht nokia did? (if some app can install auto after firmware update / reset, then HOW nokia d0 it??) Copy app to memory card?
If this is possible, then we might able to "make a set" of app we normal use, then save / install to memory card. Benefit if this? my thinking is : If we soft reset the phone / update firmware...no worries, all app will auto install after that and no need to worry about software serial / key problem. (Some software like garmin, if u didn't purchase it..and don't have serial / key, u can't use it with A-GPS.
OK i know i may sound crazy, but i think since it's done at the 1st place..there should be a way to modify /add

lately i got a few issues with my phone. non-critical, but quite irritating given my nature of OCD.
1. Nokia Email at my main menu disappears once in awhile. i'll have to go to settings for home applications. uncheck Intellisync, and then check it back again before it appears at my main menu.
2. Whenever i receive a phone call, instead of seeing the callers name and the timer of the call, it shows the main menu. it's as though i've click on my home button. i'll have to press on back then only it'll show me the default call screen where you see the caller id and call timer.
How long since u restart ur phone?sometimes symbian go haywire after long period of use i guess.. I suggest removed ur card defrag(which i still dont get it y since mcard is in chip not disk) it , reinsert ur card and restart u phone.
hi guys, i just updated firmware via pc suite last nite
after that, i notice my contacts when i try to open, the screen flickers, then goes back to home screen. in pcsuite i can still see my contacts. i know some members have talked aobut this issue before and suggested to reformat.
the only program im worried about is the Garminxt. if i backup everything to pcsuite, reformat my phone, and then upload my backups back to my phone, will my garmin be alright?

never cross this issue, but i think if it continue, restart the phone. possible that u installed any software or theme recently? if so..might be the software is not compatible?
can't stand it...and if it still like that.. well, it's time to do the "soft reset"

well, i think u just make sure yr garminxt is in yr mem card. my garmin is in mem card..and i notice after i firmware update it reinstalls back. but u don't format yr mem card..if not everything gone and i am not sure pc suite will backip the mem card sys.
U update to V300? will do provide more feedback on the V300 stability.. cause am still using V200...and since the update is just minor..i don't want to NFU my phone.

Well, i guess these firmware is really like buying local cars....depends on luck. my V200 since i get it done from AP supplier, till now no problem encountered. maybe i didn't use it for email till now. so, nokia mail..or mail exchange all i didn't venture yet. Others like music, phone call, online web surfing, wifi is still stable
One thing i notice about skyfire is it's not flexible..to my opinion. it actually need to logon a connection to do any further setting and command..not my type of software. Unistall once i find it not friendly to me.

Has anyone here upgraded to the latest firmware v300.21.012?
I upgraded and i noticed that the battery life is worse than before.
Look likes i need to post a link to d previous version as well.. Ok 1stly .. Wat is ur set? Ori or ap? Install a nokia energy profiler and check ur energy usage plus check ur battery capacity. 2ndly.. Wat ur usage? Wat software hav u installed? And wat version r they now..? 3rdly .. How do u use ur E71? Duration of use.? Wat software or application u r running all d time.. Wat u mean ur bat life got shorter? Ur previous firmware giv u a 5 days n now ur new 1 giv u 1day? 4thly.. Wat to do? Reformat or hard reset ur set after d upgrade. Reinstall everything..stop playing around with it more often .. Sometimes is all bcos of us when v got something new.. V tend to play it more often than v do b4 bcos u wanna know wat is d improvement and upgrades done.... Then v said it last shorter bt it is due to d chg in our usage patern... Finally.. So wat can i do to resolve tis? like i said install nokia energy profiler and check ur bat capacity and usage.. If ur usage is above 0.05w dont expect it to last more than 3 days.. Upgrade ur garmin version to 5.04 and above. Turn off background programmes. Set ur set to gsm only if u r not a 3g user. Well tats all i can think of.. Want more info ask google or wait for others..

i think better you post this battery issue thingy at the 1st few posts, so that we can just ask them to refer to the main page for details.
i think firmware v300.21.012 battery problem is a global issue. it's more stable but drains the battery faster. wait for upcoming firmware and stay with latest v200 firmware.
blablasheep : im using v300 and yes the battery life is significantly less than v200. however it still lasts me about 1.5 days tho
ps : is it really firmware issue? cause i notice all phones ive used that the early stages battery life is very long but as it gets older the life also shortens righT?
some shops tell me its cause sometimes when we leave the phone to charge and over-charges, it damages the battery as a whole. can anyone enlighten me?

good thing yours not running. like mine, sometimes crazy, it will run even when i turn off garmin. so have to manually kill the process.
hey guys, even in v300 the problem of contacts flickering and returning back to home screen is still there. getting kinda sick of it already... i tried 2 times, and the only way is to reset the phone entirely.
any of you have an easier way?
Added on August 31, 2009, 8:03 pmoh yea, just noticed, can add me to black avaxx e71 user

a curious no0b question...to remove the memory card, do we need to press the power button and choose remove mem. card options first before removing the microsd itself? if remove directly, the mem. card will go rosak aa?
same problem, i open, screen flicker, go back to menu page. lol. so i never bothered with windows live... my life is better without it lol
legendkiller86 : i guess its similar to thumb drive/ext hard drive etc, whereby sometimes if u disconnect without "safely remove", some info will be lost. never happened to me yet... but better safe than sorry lol

lol...just curious....i removed it directly before this...to switch my ori 2GB nokia microsd to 4GB sandisk microSDHC...only once la...tq2 for info..im glad..hehehe
btw, any difference when install app in mem card with phone mem? right now im using phone memory...
xavi : in the protection section in page 1, can add zagg invisible shield also. just widen the options for fellow users. im using the shield and its worth every penny of the rm80 i paid -.-

Hmm, thank you. I've used the Energy Profiler and my usage is around 0.15 - 0.20 even when I'm not running any background programs. I don't know why, maybe I should reformat or do a hard reset?
My garmin also is the latest version 5. something.
I always use GSM and turned off 3G when I'm not using it. Brightness lowest, power saver time out 10 secs. Even the breathing light, I turned it off.
Before upgrading to v300, even if I surf the web, check my email, msn-ing, my phone could last like 3.5 days. But after I upgraded, only like around 2.5 days.

Yea, you realised that too? Then I'm not alone.
If you found a solution, do share with me.
Nokia Energy Profiler is to check how much current using, the RAM, and others. See here

the problem is obvious. your energy consumption is high, hence your short battery life. now you need to find out what is causing the high consumption.
please check if tsrautostart.exe is running or not. please read the guide posted by xavi carefully, disabling garmin backgorund process doesn't mean that tsrautostart.exe will not be running on your background. i've faced this problem.
use jbaktaskman to check your backgorund processes.

can i know wat application or software u hav installed in ur e71? sometimes these software run in the background without u even noticing it.. 2.5 days i would say average la.. my setting is like u as well but i m a heavy surfer.. so battery drain quite obvious..
according to nokia website, to check which apps are running, hold the menu button correct? my phone when i hold the menu button, the msg reader comes out and reads my emails. any idea why?
NOT MENU BUTTON .. home button .. that only show running application.. it doesnt show background running application/process<-- required u to install jbaktaskman
oh !! lol. my bad. will update with photo of ZAGG shield applied on my phone in about an hour

yeah i know. but after awhile it gets kinda irritating with that sms thingy always popping out.
and then the main reason why i removed it was because, the sms text in the pop up box. only shows boxes. like some kinda font error. i can't even read the sms.
don't know was it because of my theme or what. so i just removed the sms preview. but when i 1st used it, everything was fine. i can preview the sms. don't know why after few days, all i can see in the sms preview is just the sender name and then box box box box box.
the installed space is small but the ram needed to run is high kot , ram in sense of memory kot.. as more application running, more ram use, the phone will tend to lag or worst hang
roxy: as i said i installed it to on my backlight for my skyfire streaming..

Added on September 3, 2009, 8:39 pmWow..u bought the ori bat more cheaper than me..so fast drop the price? but anyway i still think E71 is best using ori bat..as it last longer and it's a delicate phone will so much function. better take good care..haha. any the main page is updating fast from the mode..really being aa "1 stop" thread for info la..
Added on September 3, 2009, 8:50 pmHence there's so much info on bat life..i think most user will GET their problem solved..as my V200 plus light usage, last me 4-5 days. In the NEP normal usage with light on is 0.14-0.18W, but with Jbak u can see some "hidden" app still running.. So just wonder is there any app that can be kill to save more energy?

hi everyone,
need some suggestions whether should I use silicon case or crystal case for my e71....well, can it do any harm to my housing? because last time when i use crystal case for my previous nokia 6233, the case kinda leaves effects & scratches all over the shiny part (including the screen). since that, i havent use any crystal case...dun want to damage my precious housing...
xavi, need ur help. is it advisable to update garmin fron 5.00.0 to 5.00.5?
i downloaded the garminmobilextforsymbians603rdedition50050.exe... and after install do i need to register it or anything? or will it just update from the 5.00.0?

Bro, i bought the bat abit higher than yr price, enough for 2 McD meal lo..haha Actually when u use yr old AP bat... is it ok? not problem right? My "standby bat" now i charged it and keep aside..but my bat is abit more improved..the copper is as the ori and the "hole" u mention also got liao...only is the printing is same as u showed in page 1
Actually about MSM and MFM i got bit personal experience la. cause actually my friend got a N81 (i think), so he got AGPS. and since he don't have any software i ask him want install garmin or not (as i also use as "testing" la..hehe) then i use MFM map for him..and discover his map quite details as even got logo along the road..like MD, petronas..and so on..
My garmin (which come installed with E71, i request the supplier to install for me) is just only roads with no logo. (signaficant dif from MFM) so i think mine is MSM la.. but not sure MFM got singapore map? cause i stick to MSM is i might travel to SG if needed.

If yr version is 500.30 or later, then i think u need not in a hurry to update it. as 500.30 is already can disable backgroud service and save bat life. It's lucky for me that when i solve the bat life issue my garmin can disable the service..so no need to upgrade it..
Why i say tht? cause no need to chase for software update unless necessary. if everything is fine at the moment and fulfill yr needs. then just leave it....

oh yeah..forgot..but i think i read it somewhere that if A-gps not ON it'll take much longer time to search for satelite and logon position. so if the logon time to locate position is slow, tht might be the problem. but Apgs will eat up data transfer and cost u abit only.

Do you try to connect to software updater again, is it can be recognise and continue the process of update (just click update and will continue at where you stopped) or totally no respond? If no respond, only you can do is send to service center..

Ok, i just bought myself a new case for my E71 to replace my old silcone case which is getting softer and softer due to the heat produce during my E71 usage as modem. So got this from Novacell accessories Shop, Balakong at RM10, pretty cheap la. Got my eyes on it when i was scrolling around for a strap for my E71 . The case is make out of hard silicon case, light black in color although i also saw some clear type de, i has this leather feel.. after installed felt like holding a blackberries pulak.... but out of stop for E71 only E63 have in at that shop. pretty much a all arounder protective la, D-pad, screen, qwerty keypad are all protected. The phone is inserted into the case from the top, putting it in is quite hard as in the case of taking the phone out. The cutting for the parts on our E71 fit well, all the qwerty keypad remain typable, but my gal does complain about it is harder(keras) to press.. well, i m ok with it.. ok i will lets the picture do the talking la..
hello guys. I'm new user of Black e71.. Just bought it 2 weeks ago and 1 of my keypad had broken alredi.. If I sent to NCC will they charge for it? May I know the NCC in JB area?

I'm wondering how much would it cost to get a original second hand E71 nowadays? How about the first hand original?
New 1 is around 11XX. 2nd hand can get around 800 - 950. Depends on condition
guys... wat browser is the better browser ar? opera mini or skyfire?
it's up to personal preference. personally, i prefer the Opera Mini over skyfire as i find skyfire behaves like a normal browser which makes it quite hard to browse on our small screen. have to keep scrolling left right up down.
whereas for Opera Mini, the browsing is much more convenient because everything is in mobile view. just need to scroll up down.

i only installed garmin on a clean phone b4, no upgrade before as mine is 500.30..so it's the version that added disable function. but u can just download and install it..cause as normal program it'll detect there's an older version or not..if yes, it'll guide u thru the process.
good luck

mine battery 24/7 sms oso 3 days can go
haiz. Nowadays, my phone battery lifetime a bit strange, 24/7 sms, 1 day only then kong. Not like last time when first time buy, can tahan for 3 days.
So yesterday I decided to send my phone to the Nokia Centre. Im using Avaxx set and still under warranty.
What had happened: They changed my motherboard only because my motherboard got short circuit, that is why my battery drains out so fast. So they ask me to monitor whether my battery still drain out fast. If still the same, go there again then they will replace new battery for me.
*Last night I charged my battery full bar, then I continue my 24/7 sms routine till now, the battery left 1 bar only. Maybe my battery also problem de.

For me, I use the lowest backlight, GSM mode, I use the windows life for msn like almost 12 hours or more a day with wifi. I dont make much phone call or sms either. My battery can last for 2 days and can stretch it for 3 days with 1 battery bar remaining.

why you suspect the battery is not genuine? you can take the battery to NCC to verify..
you can check the first page from this thread. But back to my question. Is there any performance difference between AP and original batteries?
Dude.. My guide is jus a guide.. It may not describe the whole market battery. I need more contribution on tis to make comparison.. So would appreciate if u guys can post up u guys' battery pic. Performance wise.. Yes there is a diff. An AP battery hav a less mAh while it also doesn las tat long during d last 3 bar as compare to ori. Best way to know get nokia energy profiler and profile ur energy usage. Bt if u r happy with ur current performance of ur battery be it AP or ORI . Stick with it la.. FYI I GOT MINE FROM e_trade_pj lor so he should noe more bout tis tat y he is asking y u suspect urs is of ap battery.
well, it seems that my battery lettering is similar what was depicted on your post but the metal contacts are similar to ori. So that's why I came and ask around la. Another thing is that NCC is not nearby my place, which is in terengganu. That's why I might need some advice from forumers here. It's not about being happy or not with my current battery. I paid for an ori of course i want an ori. After installing NEP the battery capacity is 1549mAh. So this is an ori?

80% sure urs is an ori lor, since NEP said it is 1549mAh, normally an AP battery will hav less mAh, so may peace come to ur mind.. 20% it is up to hand-on analysis.. the real thing speak for it self..
there was a forumer here :chester, he hav an ap set, NEP recorded only 600mAH , which describe y his set battery level never go down but when it is low battery it go from full bar to 1 bar.. mine on the other hand is recorded at 1409mAh, last pretty well but the last 3 bar is significant shorten life than an ORI..
i dont know if this question had been ask b4 or not..

any best software to install on e71? e71 no have image call? like ppl call me out the image of the caller..
how to change name email at menu.. it like gmail.. i want change ti My Email
e71 have image call but it shows small picture only.. U may set it by going to gallery - image - choose your image - option - use image as - add to contact - choose your contact.
Oh is that so? Ahhh...peace of mind. But just to be sure, I'll drop my phone at the NCC. I had some doubts when the image you posted of an AP battery matched mine...Anyhow, thanks!
zilhelmy: i may be wrong but if ur garmin works fine with 5.00.3, stick with it lo. as far as i know the version update main difference is u can disable the background program or something. refer to main page under the garmin tab for updates

This is imitation? Look so real to me. Bravo to china, king of imitation. I have seen my friend using china phone with dual sim online simulatneously and can watch tv too.

here go here and read up..regarding maps. will try to include it nex time around currently bz with thesis and projects.. interface is a lookalike, once u play around u will notice the differences.. so it is best to get to know the real thing at phone shop b4 buying. this also help to educate the new buyer than there is a risk when u r buyin online, as u might get a imitation set.. so only get from a trusted/safe trader, even then pls, things like this is best to COD and check on the spot.

I installed Garmin XT 5.00.50 with MFM latest map and my GPS, even with A-GPS enabled takes a long time to detect the signals. Did anyone else have this problem?
Can anyone tell me what is the value in Positioning Server?
Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning Server
My Access Point is Maxis 3G Internet and server address is supl.nokia.com
what u mean by value? there is no value.. ur setting should be correct. mine is diginet since i m running on digi and server add is supl.nokia.com as well..
I have either the gray steel / black e71 and the warranty is until Nov 2010. Would it void my warranty if I change the casing to white? How much does it possibly cost to change the casing only?
By the way, I need a replacement for my leather pouch, any recommendations on what majority you guys are using?

I am using the genuine battery. I replaced the battery at Nokia Centre. Last week I sent my phone to them due to the battery lifetime, they changed my board instead change the battery because got short circuit with my board. Then they asked me to test whether the battery lifetime still drain out faster or not and yes the problem still the same. So I went there again last 2 days and they replaced new battery for me. And yesterday I charge till full and tested the battery, yet still the same.

mine 1550 mAh.
when started, let the phone idle? and after 5 minutes, the battery lifetime is dropped and keep dropping. should I wait for average amount or what?
u can play with it.. if idle without any application running that is ur standby time lor, while if u keep on doing ur stuff, then that will show ur current usage lor.. u should wait for 5 minute at least then stop it and view..

I am using GPS no charge at all. Just go to Tools -> Settings -> General -> Positioning -> Positioning methods, uncheck all and just check Integrated GPS, then done

aaaaaaaaa. when I tested using the nokia energy profiler, I started the test (first value around 10:xx).
I let it idle (screensaver) for around 5 minutes with 3G line and then I got 70:xx when viewing back the screen then the amount is keep dropping.
I a bit confuse which number should I refer too. Is it the one after I idle 5 minutes or the one after I got average reading?

OPERA MINI 5 is out, although still in beta version but it offer vast improvement.
New Features Include:
* tabbed browsing * copy/paste text on a page * UI update from previous version * password manager * speed dial w/ thumbnails * plus all the other great features Opera Mini has always had.
Since this is a beta version, you won’t be able to sync/import bookmarks. Good thing is when you install this version it won’t overwrite the previous version so don’t worry about losing bookmarks.
Regardless, here is how to copy/paste from Opera on the E71:
Hold down the shift key and use the navipad to select the text you want. Copy option should be visible on softkey at this point. Then press and hold shift to paste...
Visit m.opera.com/next directly from your E71 to download.

Hi, sorry i think even i told u my price, it wont helps. Because I get it in SG with sign-up 2 years Starhub postpaid plan. The phone cost S$248... Forced to get a postpaid plan because the job scope and responsibility... SG postpaid is kinda crazy....
i think the price i paid is kind of worth it for the functions i have. battery life is about 2 days with occasional gps/3-4 hours calls per day/wifi about 1 hour per charge.
overall, battery live is good with this phone. and the qwerty is a blessign.
i've installed the opera mini 5 beta. it's damn nice with the tabbed browsing.
anyways, they say can copy/paste. but i can't seem to do it? they say use the shift key.

Hmm...actually i really don't get the hang of surfing with E71, unless necessary. Cause the screen & fonts is still small and the cursor still need to do the "up down left right" thing. , still rather surf with laptop / pc.
I only use E71 to direct download themes or application.

well, if given the choice definitely i'll choose to surf with a laptop. but sometimes, when i'm in the car waiting for the girlfriend, or in shopping mall waiting for the girlfriend to shop, or when i'm taking a crap in the toilet i'll use my E71 to surf.
and honestly you should give opera mini 5 a try. the tabbed browsing is awesome
Can I retrieve email using Nokia Messaging via WLAN? I can't seem to find that option
go to msg then options > setings > email > your email > connection settings > incoming email > access point in use > choose always ask and for outgoing email do same

hi bros, i tried installin GMXT in a new E71 (my friends phone didnt come with it). i got this msg
even after copying the sw.unl file to the garmin folder
I previously used my old "Unlock ESN" to g*nerate the sw.unl, then ctrl+c, ctrl+v @ my garmin folder then okay liao. However, since my friends one didnt come with previous version installed, how do i get an "unlock ESN" to generate an unlock code?>

Haiya bro.. Now everythin goes mobile ma.. If u hav an unlimited data plan like me and red queen u will do it also de.. It like the power is in ur hand.. Everythin also can do.. Font to small.. If u can view sms on d phone y not browsin on d phone? Switch to mobile view .. Although by doing so.. Some site which does not support mobile view tend to go distorted but fine by me as most of my site is mobile friendly.. but at d end of the day when given a choice who dont prefer surfin on a bigger screen right? My 2 cent

hehhe yewps, i don't completely use the E71 to replace my laptop. but with unlimited data plan, it's definitely a bonus and a good phone for me to surf the net when i'm on the go. especially places where i don't have access to laptop/desktop.
i actually use my phone to surf some sites/forums while i'm at work even because my company blocks them. hehehhehe. i'm fine with mobile view and pretty much used to it already. and i must say i really really like opera mini 5 because of the tab browsing. good job Opera!!
why after upgrade to the latest firmware, i'm unable to send/open MMS? when trying to open MMS, it says "unable to open. message format not supported" and i cant send any MMS.
hi, i found my wi-fi scanning always automatic scan, is it because of setting or something? (i always set to switch wi-fi scan off)
Hi,
1)Check your WLAN setting, set it too OFF at the homescreen. Or do it at your connection settings, set it to never. 2)Check you email setting, whether got automatic sync or not. If yes, turn that OFF too. Because it will search for available Internet connection whenever it needs to sync automatically.

yes, you got it right. nothing beats surfing the net with a full fledge browser with keyboard and mouse so using the E71 to surf is like a bonus. and opera mini 5 actually improves the browsing experience for the E71.
anyone tried syncing with exchange without the contacts just the email and calendar and tasks?
I think its in your PCSUITE setting or outlook. i remember that there ws one tab that i can select to have 1 way push, 1 way pull from outlook or 1 way push to outlook and u can granularly set it to update contact, exchange mail, calendar or only either one.
Cant remember bro. will need to check my notebook setting tomorow.
Btw, have u guys face a problem whereby u press the menu button, seems like the menu trying to come up but somehow stuck? and then u press cancel again and it happen again?
Wierd. i had to reset my phone then only can select the menu button
I want my phone to be off/silent between the certain time at night, don't1 to get disturbed ma..hehe then say in 7am in the morning, the phone will turn on automatically. Just in case if ppl call me in the morning while i am asleep, i can pick up the phone. Does any application has this function?

I've already listed out the steps on how to upload photo to facebook. do a search and you'll find it.
ive been using that method..1st i setup my yahoo mail then send mail to my private fb mail address..but i hate the part where i need to browse my pic to attach..no pic preview. i need to memorize the picture folder and number before send it. (using email application v5.1)
any other way to upload..eg: from gallery>image>options>send via multimedia or post to web?

Managed to get the worldmate working properly by reloading and reinstalling. Thanks for reply.
As for battery life of hp, my E71 lasts up to 3 days for calls, sms and emails. That's about normal. If I do a lot of web surfing and picture taking plus view videos the battery life drops, down to a day sometimes. Honesty, why can't phone companies install a larger capacity battery into their phones. With touch or amoled screens, you'll be lucky if it lasts 2 days. My LG Arena's battery lasts almost 3 days, too with normal calls and sms but drops quickly if I use a lot of multimedia and fiddle a lot with the touch screen. Nokia E71 has a 1500 mAh battery while my Arena only has a 1000 mAh battery! My first generation iphone has a 1800 mAh battery which lasts up to 5 days on standby.

well, i think u have almost answer yr own question, with so much usage of surf and video, still want the battery to last how long? iphone 1800 in standby, can't compare with E71 have usage lo. So the lasting still depends on usage (don't everything ware n tear?) think of laptop. why only last 3-5 hrs of fully charge? and HP last for 3 days..with usage and power up 24 hrs.
Opt to buy a spare batt as now it's not expensive and am enjoying of having a spare batt to switch. E71 can last up to 6-7 days in standby with low usage
Added on October 1, 2009, 2:34 amany bros here have sync E71 before? i use microsoft outlook, and i have a habit to key in all event as "all day" cause my schedule is an activities event. after sync, i see all the event changed to "memo" in E71, and E71 calendar have a bug (i treat it as one), if u key in a meeting and tick "all day", the whole day on the date is occupied from 12:01 - 11.59 and u see in day view is a long highlight.
any better calendar for E71 that act like outlook? as i think outlook more flexible.
