Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (SPNB), the Malaysian state-owned public transport operator, is selling RM2bn of Islamic bonds to raise funds for projects, according to a person with knowledge of the plan. The company, which runs light rail services in and around Kuala Lumpur, hired CIMB Investment Bank Bhd and Maybank Investment Bank Bhd to help it sell 20-year notes, the person said. Prasarana plans to sell as much as RM4bn of Islamic bonds, known as sukuk, to raise funds for projects including rail line extensions. The funds to be raised is largely for the RM7- 10bn LRT upgrade/extension in Klang Valley. Indications are that the tenders would be called for soon and the project is likely to be rolled-out earliest by year-end.
From the report above, it seems like construction for the LRT will only start by 4Q 2009. When I buy, the sales person told me it would start by August 2009. Should we blame the developer for giving us the wrong info?
