Hey guys, happy to have found this thread.
A total noob runner here (even though I'm 27...

)
Actually started running to lose weight (I'm not overweight but just want to have a better toned body).
Been posting at the bodybuilding forum also.
Been running for like 1 1/2 months and have reached a distance of about 5km.
Is that a good increase?
I've been reading here and everyone seem to run like minimum 10kms and marathons, I feel freaking inferior lol.
Would like to share my progress since that time and would love to get some feedback from long time runners here.

1. Started about 1 1/2 months ago.
2. 1st time if i recall correctly could only go like 600meters... paiseh...
3. Have improved to about 5km in about 30 minutes (I think its slow right?)
4. Don't have a good running shoe yet (using some X training shoe and basketball shoes cuz most of the time I play basketball after my run and can't really afford a new shoe, poor student...).
5. I run in the evenings and sometimes at night if something comes up. Outdoor running on a track around a lake. Smoother than the tar road.
6. Would like to hit 10km if possible.
7. I'm male, 170cm and 63 kg (lost 2.5-3 kgs in that 1 1/2 month, also due to a much better diet). Losing another kg or 2 would be perfect.
8. Am at about 14% body fat, would like to go to 10%.
9. Doing some weight training to build my muscles but not into seriously buff but fit. How do i describe this. Something like this i guess:

Sorry if the post is a little windy.
*Are there any budget watches that can track accurately (or at least without too big an error) the distance ran? I've seen many brands and models but most of them are really expensive and got a little dizzy reading up on all those brands and functions.
Oh wanna share a good quote from another forum heheh:
if i'm talking to a hottie, and trying to impress, then i've been running.
if i'm talking to a runner who knows better, then i've been jogging.
if i'm talking to neeners after she's been training for a triathlon, then i've been loafing. hey welcome to the runnerz thread!
always good to have someone new onboard!

lets get onto clearing your doubts shall we?
first of all dont worry about your time, your main goal to get into running was to stay fit an loose weight, not only you've managed but you've become fitter through a well planned diet as well!
and 30 mins for 6km can say its average 6mins per kmh but its really good compared against the time you started (1 1/2 months) back.
If you're gonna be serious into running and if u plan to hit 10km get a good pair of shoes, our resident shoe experts Ccube and phoenix would be more than able to help you out with that.
as for the picture, that can be describes as lean not bulky but lean, running helps but its always good to have a resistance training in between in order to help the muscle to withstand the constant pounding on the roads while you're running
as for watches probably u might wana give the Nike Sport band a go its about rm 2++ but im not sure on the accuracy although i personally would prefer to go with Garmin or Polar but of course you pay a premium price for it
nice quotes though, ive been running
