Hey guys,

Got this from xtremeplace forum
http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=64111.0

Looks like SVS is coming to Singapore. Won't it be cheaper to get it from there??
*
I knew about this. That's why I will be there.

Are you sure? The PC12-NSD uses the NSD-AL woofer as mentioned above. But the PC12+ uses the Plus 12.4 woofer.

Spot on. Different woofer. 12+ is 12.4" while NSD is 12.3". NSD is not using Bifilar wound, 3” USA Aluminum Voice Coil. The NSD doesn't go as low as 12+ and its power rating is 200W lower. (apart from the single port). That also might be the reason why the response curve aint as flat as 12+

That is from the SVS website on the PC12-NSD product page.

See my pics added above. I think you misread what is written on the SVS website and assumed it was the same. Look at the statement u quoted:

"SVS has long built its own woofers. The NSD-AL is one of a continuous evolution back many years now. While affordable there is nothing much "off the shelf" in the nature of this woofer, the heart of any sub. Every part was selected for maximum performance and with this latest NSD rev, we've even put on the stiff, costly and oh so attractive powder-coated aluminum cone stolen from our equally famous Plus 12.3 woofer."

All it says is that the NSD-AL takes the cone from the 12.3 woofer. What about the voice coil or the magnet structure or the basket design? These were not incorporated into the NSD-AL. And note that even the cone is from 12.3, the previous generation. Now is 12.4 already where no doubt the cone and the other stuff (voice coil or the magnet structure or the basket design) have been improved over 12.3.

hopefully, the SG dealership doesn't cover MY coz then we might not be able to buy direct.

Would it be correct to expect prices to be much higher buying thru local dealer?

Whatever it is, the PC12-NSD does use the new Alluminium woofer and is one of the best sub at that price range.

Agreed, but didn't want you to be under wrong impression it is the same woofer as PC12+ or spreading info that it's the same woofer.

Another question I want to ask. What's the main difference of PC-12+ and PC-12NDS, other than a less powerful amp? Their sizes and weights are almost the same but prices almost double?
*
Forgot to tell you. Don't expect the PC-12NSD to outperform your SPL-1200R. It would be the other way round. So, you have to buy PC-12+ for your upgrade.

Most probably in a 20' container by sea. Problem is that it will end up at my friend's warehouse. You guys need to come and collect. But, still can arrange transport to deliver to your doorstep for a fee. Payment would be up front since it ain't cheap. Have to wire transfer loads of $$$$ to SVS sweat.gif .

Now, I am eyeing the AS-EQ1. Hopefully, can get it by next month end.

Aiya, aiya.... I was thinking of getting 2 pieces of PC-12 NSD on 2 corners of my room instead of 1 piece of PC-12+. sad.gif

That changes the equation. I think htkaki assumed you're only getting 1 PC12-NSD. If get 2 then might be equal to (or better than) 1 PC12+.

I wouldn't advice 2 cheap sub instead of 1 good sub. Problem is if it can't achieve good low freq and flat response, 2 is not going to solve the problem. It will play louder and maybe a little bit better in room integration. Still best to go for 2 PC12+

You got my point laugh.gif Yes, no matter what, NSD could not go as lowe as 12+. Only that you get a 'fuller' bass and not so significant louder. The Response Curve of NSD is not that good.

Buying 2 NSD is costlier than 12+

What about 2 PC13 Ultra? That is the problem with a lot of people. They can't differentiate between needs and wants.

I show my wife the PB and the PC last night and we discussed and finally decide on the PC12-NSD. So after getting the SAF issue settled, now I am only waiting for Erik of SVS to get back to me on the new shipping charges for the PC12-NSD which is lighter in weight therefore lower shipping cost.

This is the reason why I decided to go for cylindrical woofer.

Like one owner from another forum puts it....

"They walk in: "Hmm... not bad. I like the picture- what is that?!"
SVS cylinder sub owner: "A subwoofer."
Them: "Holy cow, why is it circular?
SVS cylinder sub owner: "So it can do this!" *cranks the system and knocks pictures off of the neighbor's wall*
