What happen if the SVS kong? Have to ship back?

No I think they have online support to help you diagnose the problem then they will send the replacement part to you, but you have to DIY repair.

What really surprise me is how a different room with different acoustic could affect the sound so much.

So my problem now is which sub so i buy.  They T1 sound sweet but the blatting noise make me feel very uneasy paying Rm3000 for it.  The CHT-12R definite impress me this time round with its good quality bass and shear power.  Then the seller ask me to take the Velodyne CHT-12R for RM1500 which is a second hand one.  At half the price of the T1, do you guys think its worth it?  In other words, is a second hand 12R worth Rm1500?  Or should I go for a new 12Q at Rm2800?
*
Yeah, room acoustics play a huge role in perceived sound quality. 20k worth of equipment in a poor room can sound worse than 10k equipment in a good room.

RM1500 for used 12R is worth considering IMO. Find out how old it is and test kaw kaw first. I think sub rarely got problem, and at least the shop is giving 6 months warranty.

I wonder how long is Velo warranty in MY. In US the warranty on drivers is five years, the warranty on all amplifiers and electronics is three years. But outside US they say "The warranty of a Velodyne product, if it is sold to a consumer outside of the United States or Canada, shall comply with applicable law and shall be the sole responsibility of the distributor that supplied the product. To obtain any applicable warranty service, please contact the dealer from which you purchased the product, or the distributor that supplied it."

12-Q price up or down??
*
Uhh... up or down? I think price remains the same.

There is more price variation depending on where you buy (I got quoted from 2.8k - 3.2k for the 12Q at 3 different shops) and how much you can bargain.

using cc doesnt give u a cheaper usd rate..
bro i suggested paypal not bcoz its convinient.. its bcoz i heard got ppl in lowyat who wants to cash out their paypal money.. so they offer a lower rate of usd.. u pay him cash they he transfer money into svs in front of u.. coz they cant cash out  their balance of paypal in malaysia.. so when these malaysian sellers sell internationally accepting paypal, they cant cash out.  i am also noob in this, this is what my friend told me... any1 can help to clarify?
*
You're correct, there are quite a number of people on LYN who sell paypal below USD market rate. You can do COD or if you think the seller is trustworthy then all can do online. I've traded paypal with several people before (to the tune of over USD1000 altogether) and it's been painless.

The Poor-Man's Subdude

The talk about the Subdude made me experiment with DIY my own since I discovered I had some material lying around. Really all u need is 2 items: the platform and the feet.

For the platform you need something rigid. I remembered I had a piece of 2'x2' 20mm granite slab spare. You can also get MDF board or plywood, etc. But the real key item is the feet. How do I know this - because I first experimented with just putting the granite slab on the floor and the sub on it. Not much effect since nothing to absorb the vibrations (the granite is after all very hard).

For the feet I remembered that the packaging foam that came with the FCC 2 was a very firm/dense type. It's not styrofoam (too hard) nor the usual type of foam (too soft & airy). So I placed 2 pieces under the granite. The result: sub is less boomy now, bass is tighter, my plaster ceiling rattles less. In fact I'm able to turn up my sub volume. Previously volume at 35 was the threshold before ceiling rattles. Now can push to 40, so can enjoy louder! biggrin.gif This validates the effect of the real Subdude and also demonstrates that it can be DIY easily (of course I'm not saying my DIY version is as good as the real thing). The key is to find the right foam.

Here's the pic of my poor-man's Subdude:

Thanks, but there is no real skill involved. Just have to find the materials, put platform on top of foam and that's it.

If skill comes in, it would be to beautify the thing. Like sewing fabric to cover the foam/platform. That's one reason why I'm happy I found the granite platform - it looks good as is, no need to beautify some more. If I had chosen MDF board, it would be more plain.

I am going to meet up with one acoustic foam / industrial grade foam supplier this week. I will take the subdude and show them since I saw that their products are near identical to it. Maybe can produce something similar to Auralex but at 'affordable' price (if there is a market for this). I do hope that I don't make life difficult for other hi-fi shops  blush.gif

Great!

Anyway, this is called competition mah so consumers benefit.

What I do is get those cutting board from Jusco (RM 15 per piece) which is quite heavy and solid. Then to raise it from the floor, I use those silicon feet you you get from DIY shop (for chair) and stick below it. Imaging does improve a bit. Previously I had problem where my speaker is not really stable on my carpet due to uneven pattern plus thick rubber underlay.
*
You mean those wooden vegetable cutting board? Good idea.

Do you find those silicon feet provide enough isolation, compared to a big piece of foam underneath? I'm thinking what to experiment with next.

MO price stated is all inclusive.  Price shouldnt be more then MO price mentioned.  Lets leave it as it is ok as i shouldnt have even posted anything unless everything is 100percent sure.  But this taukeh htkaki la, buy subwoofer like buy bak chang suddenly order 2 biji so i was worried too many of u bought liao then we cant even get enough ppl for the MO (if it can be done) and i also cant fulfill my svs ultra dream.

I hope u all would spare me the bashing if the MO doesnt happen but i am really trying my best as i also wanna get 1 and up to now most of the obstacles have been solved.

You've done a lot already. To fill up the 20 pcs is not your responsibility. The opportunity you already provided, if not enough people take this chance then too bad.

I wonder how the SPL compares to the SVS SB12-Plus?

If come in via MO, I think the SB12-Plus maybe around 3.5k.

I also wonder how's the performance .

Thanks for the pricing info.

Which model of SPL do you own? Yeah, a test between your SPL and the SVS would be great.

Hello Yk Ng,

Thanks for posting and welcome to LYN (I see you just joined today). I find your post a little confusing because I don't know what exactly is the message you are trying to convey.

I agree with you that ideally we should demo a product before buying it. However, I don't agree that you need 'real studio facilities' in order to do the demo. Firstly, how can we find such a studio in Malaysia? Even if there was such a studio would the results be applicable to your home room? I think as long as the room variable is kept constant, you can do a meaningful comparison between 2 subwoofers.

Even if you look at professional equipment reviews, I think the review is done in the reviewers own home/room (not a studio).

QUOTE
I went to many of the forum site, most of them were discussing Jl Audio Fathom,Sun Fire,Rel or Velodyne and being describe as one of the best subwoofer brand company in the world(excluding Wilson Benesch Torus which at different price catagories and quality)

By reading this it seems to me that you're suggesting that reading on forums is good enough and just because people are discussing brands like Jl Audio Fathom, Sun Fire, Rel or Velodyne that you can assume they are "one of the best subwoofer brand company in the world". I'm sure if you read enough, other brands like Hsu, SVS, Epic, etc. are also positively discussed on many forums.

QUOTE
Lately i observe that there is a forum started by a local members comparing SVS sub Velodyne sub.
1st you must let me know do you have the right facilities to test the above(SVS and Velodyne)sub or just by a normal room home theatre set up instead of a right facilities which is a studio set up.
I don't 100% believe it since everybody had different listening level as most of the local don't have the right facilities to test the true quality of the subwoofer

You don't have to believe it. That's why a shootout is being organized so people can listen for themselves. Sure the testing ground isn't a 'real studio facilities' but it is a real life example of a typical room (the kind that most people have). And at least the tester has a SPL meter so both subs can be set at same output for fair comparison. As far as practicality is concerned this is ok.

QUOTE
hello frens, anybody using Jl Audio Fathom,Sun Fire,Rel or Velodyne product subwoofer?

You can check out the subwoofer owner's list on the preceding pages. This is not a full list by the way since it is up to owner's to voluntarily disclose.

Just to clarify, the shootout isn't done by me.

Also hard for it to be done in a professional way since none of us are professionals in this area so we wouldn't have the necessary equipment, except for our ears smile.gif

Yeah, technical support is an issue for products not represented locally. That has to be understood by the buyer. If not prepared for this then I agree that a person shouldn't buy from overseas.

Load of photos will be popping up on either Thurs evening or Fri.

Just realised that the PC-12Plus' 16" diameter a bit too big for my 15" Subdude.

I think just 1/2" overhang on each side is ok. Try first, otherwise time to upgrade! smile.gif
