Hmmm I think I answered my question on what sub to get. Check out the comprehensive subwoofer test below

http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/sub...urer-model.html

And check out the SVS PB12-NSD

http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/sub...12-nsd-new.html

It goes down to 15Hz with ease!!

Now that's what I call a subwoofer!

Added on June 12, 2009, 4:26 pmForgot to add that even the velodyne spl1200 doesn't go as low. Check out the test on it.

Hi L,

Normally, we wont run down wat we are usin unless it really pisses us off big time.. so u'd get mostly positive rvws from owners..

Even thou' I m a SvS user, I hv heard talk tat de lower line subs are a tad problematic - if possible try n get de midrange n up models..

Actually,

I have been to a HDB room of 3 by 4.5m tat houses 7 (yup count seven) subwoofers ; I tink 5 of those are SvS's ..

He is kinda a local legend there..

So far all or most of the user are happy so that says a lot.

"There is always a bigger fish!" but now that is all the fish I need.

Yup,

Tats abt wat brought me to get one even if more accessible(and better serviced/warranty) brands were avlbl here for wat I paid for de PB12+ - every owner seems to like it so much and even those who were non fans had nutin bad to say..

Bigger fish - one SvS is enuff for most rooms (even American sized ones) 2 is alrdy pushin it but more is plain kaisu .. biggrin.gif

But after sayin tat, de chap who has 7 subs has a beautiful inert room (u can hear a pin drop in there) n bass is beautifully controlled wif his Elemental design parametric eq..

Cheers

Today went to check out a PB-10NSD. Not bad for a 10".

I am still trying to find some time to do the parametric eq to maximise my PC12+ potential.

I spent like 2 hours setting up the sub, and just couldn't get things right like what I wanted it to be.

an hour ago I wasn't feeling it and things does not shake .. not it feels like it's getting harder to breath.. just no music at the moment .. too loud for movies at this timing ..

may I check with you guys, normally how do you guys run the auto setup?
the recent I started was;
gain 1/4 phase 0, ran YPAO and returned with +5.5db on sub level and sub seems 1foot behind my fronts whereas they're just parallel.
tuned down the level to +1.5db and cranked the gain to 40. Am i still missing something here?
still couldn't get it right. and too tired to do more settings.

It's time for a noob like me to learn things from sifu here about subwoofer. Can somebody teach me how to determine a good subwoofer? I saw a small subwoofer with the price of >RM2k at the same time saw a huge ass subwwofer with RM1k++ only? How to determine? Can't really understand all of the technical things except the frequency range. Thanks icon_question.gif

i wonder which budget subwoofer would be the best bang for the buck..

Saw some users review on the net and thought this one is very useful as it have comparison between different subs.

Wharfedale PC DX12 vs Velodyne SPL 1200 vs HSU VTF-3 MKII Intimus S-12 vs Infinity Alpha 1200S vs SVS PB12-ISD

I'll keep this short and conscise: I have five other friends that agreed to purchase five other reputable subwoofers. These are the subwoofers they chose: Wharfedale PC DX12 Velodyne SPL 1200 HSU VTF-3 MKII Intimus S-12 Infinity Alpha 1200S SVS PB12-ISD (Initially tested by me.) We all tested each of our subs with the same music CD's as weel as the same DVD's. We tested them of course at various volume levels. We rated each of our subs in different categories in music and in movies. The best rating in each category is 5 stars. At the end of our testing, these were the results: Wharfedale PC DX12: 3.5 Stars Velodyne SPL 1200: 4.0 Stars HSU VTF-3 MKII: 4.0 Stars Intimus S-12: 3.25 Stars Infinity Alpha 1200S: 3.5 Stars SVS PB12-ISD: 5.0 Stars So basically each of us tested all five of these subs. Take it for what it's worth, but we all had the same opinion about the SVS PB12-ISD. Clean, deep, punchy, accurate, and just very well rounded bass!!! Not only did it blend in seamleslly with each of our different gear, but it complimented and brought us to a different level of audio and movie listening. All 5 of us sent e-mails to all of these subwoofer companies. The only company that was very responsive was SV. Mind you we didn't get a response from just anyone, we got responses from the founders (Ron S. & Tom V.). Now that is quality service! Never did they talk down or bad mouth the competition. Everything stated by Ron & Tom was backed up with reviews that are readily accessible to the public. We did receive responses from others, including HSU and Wharfedale, but most of their comments were more biased rather than factual. On that note most of the other companies would bash or bad mouth the others without really justifying how they were better. SVS was the only company that maintained class! In conclusion, the SVS PB12-ISD is the subwoofer of choice! If you are on the market for a subwoofer, look no further! Dollar for dollar, nothing even comes close! I have a feeling the $599 price point will be going up pretty soon. Everyone that I refer over to SVS tells me that they are out of stock. That alone tells you how good the sub is!

Not available locally...have to order online from USA.

BTW, a size comparison between SVS SB12 plus (on top) and SVS PB12.

user posted image

Due to the size of my room being too small, i can only go for SB12 plus.
