What I do is get those cutting board from Jusco (RM 15 per piece) which is quite heavy and solid. Then to raise it from the floor, I use those silicon feet you you get from DIY shop (for chair) and stick below it. Imaging does improve a bit. Previously I had problem where my speaker is not really stable on my carpet due to uneven pattern plus thick rubber underlay.

You mean those wooden vegetable cutting board? Good idea.

Do you find those silicon feet provide enough isolation, compared to a big piece of foam underneath? I'm thinking what to experiment with next.
*
Yup. Vege cutting board. If you use foam, you should cut out 2 strips and stick to each side. You want maximum isolation from the floor so the less contact you have the better. Not sure which one is better as I just use whatever material available to test out the effect.

Question, if I want a sub for both music and HT, which one do I consider? What is the price range for these little monsters? I don't want something that goes "ka-booooom"!
*
For musical sub, normally you need to get sealed sub such as Velodyne DD.

SPL Ultra newer but DD come with servo control which velodyne claim to be better for musical sub. I read in a forum mention SPL 12R is louder than DD-12 but DD-12 win in it can go lower and more control. You can set the servo control level in the menu for each profile between 1 - 8. 1 for less servo control and 8 for max control which is the best for music. So if you mostly use your sub for movie, then get an SPL-12. If you want more musical sub, get DD-12. Just send an email to Velodyne stated down your room size and your priority. They will advice you the right model to choose. I think they quite pro in the sense that they don't always upsell you the equipment.

another poison for you guys with such geng sub is audyssey sub equaliser such as SVS AS-EQ1 subwoofer EQ (coming soon). Room correction for sub is much more important as low wave freq had long standing wave.

Don't compare with 10R. After you listen to those very "geng" sub, all entry level "beh lalu"

Just an add-on that some of the shootout only compare SPL output. This is just one measurement on how loud the sub will sound. But it doesn't measure distortion. It's always possible to push the sub louder but with higher distortion.

Still out of optimum adjustment. Best if you can control it +- 3db. You might need to do bass trap or move your sub around to get the smoothest response first before doing adjustment. The 31.5 hz is a typical room modal peak which can only be tame by bass trap.

Vibration not necessary is cause by the deepest bass. Sometimes it vibrate due to certain freq. Think of it like a tuning fork. Anyway, talking about value, looks like svs provide the best return. Might ask my friends consider SVS PB-13 Ultra. drool.gif

I wouldn't advice 2 cheap sub instead of 1 good sub. Problem is if it can't achieve good low freq and flat response, 2 is not going to solve the problem. It will play louder and maybe a little bit better in room integration. Still best to go for 2 PC12+

Added on July 2, 2009, 9:27 amAlso on the topic of sub, anyone consider dual MFW-15 sub from AV123? Price looks cheap around USD 800 for 2 x 15inch sub (350w).

Yes the MFW-15 is a good value sub. However, you should be aware of the problems faced in this sub and as a result many people are holding off buying. Read up on AVS about what's happening with the MFW-15 and AV123 in general. A lot of confidence has been lost on that company.

Yeah... I know they have some problems with certain model of the sub. If they can deliver the new batch of product for Rocket and MFW, I think it's safe to buy again.

cheap for the power produce. If you look at their circuit, it's dedicated for each channel except it share the same transformer.

There is another sub for you guys to consider. Submersive sub had great amp section which is using 1000watts ICE and 2 x 15" driver. It's seal sub so it's more controlled than ported sub. This sub can go down to 10hz and smaller room 8hz.

There been few reviews that owner prefer this sub than SVS PB-13 Ultra. Price is around USD 1800 but it's like getting 2 subs due to dual 15" driver design. And the ICE amplification is not cheap.

Since it's kind of small company, maybe Mark can put in lower invoice value for shipment then you should pay almost the same price Ultra-13.

Hopefully.

Next aim (if everything goes as planned), it would be PB13Ultra / PC-13ultra. Most likely PB. Unless, I have a bigger room for PC. Obviously, I do not have one  sad.gif

Then, Klipsch RF-83, RC-64, RS-62 plus multi-channel power amp along with JVC D-ILA projector wub.gif .

Have you watch JVC RS10 and Optoma HD82 side by side? Would like to know your impression. I got a feeling that the RS10 demo unit is not up to my expectation (which might because it's a lemon) as it doesn't perform up to what had been describe by few owners. If you are not RBE sensitive since you have HD65, better compare that to HD82. I would say it had more "wow" factor in the picture quality. Now will HD86 improve much from HD82, that's another story. Also under my radar would be the new Infocus projector. I'm waiting for the dealer to confirrm if the 3D upgrade is free for existing HD82 before pulling the trigger. If not, I'll wait for 3D version.

My dealer loan the unit for me to view at home. So I have a good comparison as both is using the same screen. Maybe RS10 fit better with gray screen as I'm using Carada Brilliant White 1.4.

What I do is ask the contractor to use the thicker frame and use rubbermat for each joint ot reduce metal vibration. Also put the rockwool on top of the plaster ceiling to act as broadband sound trap.
