Owh yeah, Mayflash is not bad too. Better if you want it as a base so that it could be modded with Sanwa parts. biggrin.gif

Hey guys,

I'm new to the SF4 world, just wondering how is the connection between local players? I've played a few times online and always ended up getting challenged by players with the lowest connection. Its hard to play when everything jerks...

about 30-60 ping where there's good connection.

I have a pre-order slot for the Madcatz TE, hence it will go on sale once Play-Asia fulfills the order. Please come in visit my thread (link = my sig) and share your comments. Thanks!

That is a nice looking stick, but rather expensive icon_idea.gif Not too sure hows the "Feel" of the stick. Might be popular to Western players then Asian players. Investing in one would be fine, just need to test the "Feel" if its good.

Had my eye on that before, but the button layout doesnt seem right for me. Some more review says its rather noisy sweat.gif need to mod to sanwa parts then it could be good.

there wont be doubts about the Madcatz TE stick and the HRAR3, they are exactly the same, or almost exactly the same with the Arcade counter parts.
these 2 choices will not go wrong.

Madcatz TE uses Sanwa buttons already. Not sure what stick it does.

I know the HRAP3 uses a Sanwa stick, but Hori buttons. It's still fine for SF4, but I found playing MvC2 a bit difficult cause I have to slam the buttons harder.

Or you can get Sega Virtua Stick High Grade if you could find one online. I'm using it. It's very hard to get this one.

@ Phyurix

The Madcatz TE stick comes with a Sanwa stick and Sanwa buttons, which is what they use in Japanese arcade cabinets. Hey, if it's good enough for Daigo, it's good enough for me! tongue.gif

I have the HRAP3 SA (Special Addition), which comes with the same Sanwa parts as the Madcatz TE. I'm no pro, but the stick is very responsive and light, in a square gate. The Sanwa buttons are also super responsive to the touch. At first, they will feel TOO sensitive, but this is actually to your benefit once you get used to it, especially with the strict timing needed for inputs in the game. Sometimes, just brushing against the buttons will cause an input. But after awhile, you'll learn to love it. Compared to the regular HRAP3 (with Hori buttons), the Sanwa buttons are lighter to press and release, and overall more responsive. Guess you get what you pay for...these things aren't cheap.

I also have the Hori Fighting Stick 3, which comes with Hori's own stick and buttons. Compared to Sanwa hardware, it doesn't have that 'precision' feel...dunno how else to describe it. But it is still a very good stick. The stick is pretty responsive when new, though only time will tell if it can take the abuse for long. I've tried an older HFS2 which had quite a bit of mileage on it, and it felt loose. I needed to move it further to get the 'click'. The buttons on the HFS3 are okay...a bit more resistance when pressing it compared to the Sanwa buttons. My only other gripe is that the stick is smaller and lighter compared to the HRAP3 and can move about on the table with vigorous inputs. The heavier HRAP3 is rock solid. Doesn't move at all. At a bit more than half the price of a HRAP3, the HFS2 is still a pretty good buy.

I wouldn't go for those RM100 sticks tho...IMO you get what you pay for. Mastering those crazya$$ FADC combos WILL torture your stick, so might as well make sure it'll last.

Added on April 22, 2009, 11:27 pmJust to add one more thing...

Those of you using USB adapters for your sticks should ALWAYS unplug them when updating PS3 firmware. There have been a lot of reports of PS3s bricking with the USB adapters plugged in.

Most gurus here have already answered questions about the sticks, lemme share my input:

• Phyurix: on the other hand the Westerners designed it following the official SF4 Taito Vewlix cabinet panel found in Japanese arcades. So these are what the Japanese are using, down to the stick, buttons and button layout. And you are right about the price - costs a bomb and I will later on comment on the experience!

• Rockfire PS2 to USB adapter: this is what I am using now, and there's no visible input lag.

• The TE uses the same Sanwa JLF stick as the HORI RAP3. The 2 main similarities between them, which comes to mind, are the buttons and stick. TE has a cord storage compartment behind, lock mode for the turbo buttons, convenient placing of Home and Start buttons (at the back) to prevent accidental presses when mashing (= instant disqualification in US tourneys), exact button layout/panel design as the Vewlix, removable legs to enable table mounting via screw, etc.

• The Virtua Stick High Grade (VSHG) has been discontinued by SEGA. Only option is eBay where a lot of people are also looking to obtain one. Solid piece of stick and I personally prefer it over the HRAP3 for non-Tekken games alone

• senzr: nice weapon of choice there. Not to sound anal but the 'SA' = SAnwa Edition. HORI names their sticks this way. So 'SE' = SEimitsu Edition. I failed. That sounded anal of me smile.gif

• Eddy: Nice deal. You can get 2 HRAP3s with a TE smile.gif Actually it's true the US buttons are better and more responsive than Japanese counterparts. HORI proprietary nonetheless, still good. Oh yeah.... DAMNIT Eddy congratulations THE STICK!

Cool, many feed backs on the stick and other possibility controllers to use. Will take note when im out shopping for them.

I guess its just me, but sticks depends on ppls own preferences. Some may like the sensitive buttons, some may prefer firm buttons. As long one can get the the right one then it should be fine. No offence to anyone.

Also I just remembered, using the USB converts cant use the home button to reply messages doh.gif (Although its not THAT of a big deal)

@ rawfish

Just to satisfy my curiosity, those converts once you plug it in, the PS3 auto detects it as Player 1 or you need to set it up in the system?

It detects it as Player 1 automatically. But some of the buttons are totally off (need to re-map), fixable at the buttons config menu.

You're right, and I'm right. SA = Sanwa

But "Special Addition" is also printed on the box and faceplate.

I heart Japlish cool2.gif

Unfortunately, this stick is wasted on me. It doesn't help my scrubby skillz. I've never got my ass kicked with so much precision before doh.gif
