I received a EzyCheque from Maybank. It's based on my Maybank CC.

One-time interest paid (cash advance fee) at 3.88% with 6-month installament programme. The amount is RM 2000 only.

Throw it away... it's evil.
Bank had to resort to such "dirty" tactics to make you poorer

Hi all, should be going overseas soon (just nearby, probably Sg and Thailand). Was wondering, should I call up the customer service and notify them that I'm going overseas? Namely for the following cards:-

- Amex green charge card
- Citibank clear
- Direct Access
- HSBC

Was wondering if any of you know if any of the above cards would still allow me to swipe even if I don't call up the CS. Also, if any that you guys know for a fact that would block my transactions if I don't call them up.

Thanks!

It's better to give them a call. You don't want to a rejected transaction.

Based on my experience, I encountered no problems using my cc if I didn't inform the banks while travelling abroad. Sometimes the banks did call me immediately to clarify soon after the transactions were done. However, for security purpose, it would be better to inform the respective banks first before you travel. By the way, you only need to bring along 1 master + 1 visa.

Yea, just thought I'd ask for the various card. But would only be using amex where accepted, and 1 master/visa at places where they don't take amex

I would advise not to use Amex in overseas, as the service charge/commission is much higer than others. You may earn lots of points from Amex while spending in overseas, but you would end up paying much more fee for that. Think twice!

Oh yea, some of you actually mentioned it before right. Deng I forget, thanks for the reminder smile.gif

Hmm guess I'll just call up DA and Citibank so I'll have one master and visa each.

I have no idea on how much you wanna spend in overseas, but you can actually request the bank to temporarily increase your CL prior to travelling abroad so that you don't need to bring along too many cards. 1 master + 1 visa will be sufficient enough. Enjoy!

You should be able to swipe overseas without calling the CS but it be better if you call CS and inform them of the duration you be in overseas so that the info is in their system.

My experience, DA cards do not need to call CS prior to go overseas. Transaction went smoothly.

I usually make it a point to call CS to tell them where I maybe using the card.

Eg. Let's say I'm in Australia and called CS before my trip...if a fradulent transaction is done in Malaysia...it's a fraud, right ?

Same here.
If you calculate carefully, they charged you 3.88% for the 6-months cash. In actuality, MBB are charging you 7.76% admin fee for the cash advance. On that piece of paper, they have stated (in RM) the actual fees charged - it should come up to RM155.20, am I right ?
*
I've done this before, upfront interest is RM70 something for RM2000. As long as you pay on time on the card used, there's no additional interest.

Like any other short-term loan, one should take advantage only if necessary based on one's situation. There is no immediate yes or no answer to any financial question, except maybe for "Should I buy something if I don't have any money to pay for it." laugh.gif

hi, need to ask whether maybank credit card have flexi-payment like citibank choice.
i've applied for citibank choice but got rejected. really like the flexi-pay features, if u buy anything worth 1k or more, u have the option to convert it into 12mth/24mth installment plans...
do maybank have that? i read about ezypayment plans but it only for selected shops only which u can apply on the spot...
for citibank choice, u can convert any purchases worth more than 1k into monthly installment plans...
