Start off by squatting without any external weight. Try to look up some videos for proper technique, or if possible, get someone to teach you. The Tabata method is when you do a certain exercise for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds after that, then repeat for a couple of sets.

Leg day's my favourite day of the week, so yeah. The harder it is for me to walk after working out, the better. tongue.gif

don't limit yourself to just one weight.
your strength increase after some time and 8lbs that's heavy for you now will be like piece of cake.

i started doing normal squat like for one week. then i move on to dumbbell squat from 10lbs to 15 lbs and now I'm doing 20lbs.
squatting is a b**** but the satisfaction you get after that is worth it. thumbup.gif

There's no recommended weight. Go according to what you're capable of using and progress from there.

there is no recommended weight.
i started off squatting my own body weight.
as in 85kg barbell squat.
that was my 1st day squatting...
after that, i learn correct form and it increased to 120kg in 2 weeks or so.
never did try further than that since then coz mostly i am doing my deadlift coz my squat rack in my gym is wobbly and not stable. =.=

I went to the physiotherapist today. If you're living around Sri Petaling/Happy Garden/Kuchai Lama you should go to this place should you have the misfortune of an injury.

My hip flexors were properly screwed for 3 weeks. This meant that the squats I was so determined to increase (and worked hard for 8 weeks) was all to waste because I sustained an injury to my hip flexor when I was within reach of my goal.

The physiotherapist told me that I probably have scar tissue formation around the area and the muscle fibres have not healed correctly. It hurts like a b**** when the hip flexors were isolated to contract. I am now undergoing some stretching rehab on my own and therapeutic ultrasound weekly to bi-weekly to help speed up my recovery.

Hopefully I can get back to squatting full form soon. It's disappointing that all that weeks of hard work getting my squats up is now going to waste

I've stopped squatting for almost a month since I started to have lower back pain from doing squats and only squats.

I hope you get well soon.

Damn, I think today was the best leg day I've ever had. laugh.gif

My legs are numb now. sweat.gif Football in school, a ton of running obviously. Hit probably every part of the legs in the gym too. Squats, walking lunges, leg extensions/curls, calf raises, Bulgarian split squats and finished everything off with 2 sets of pistols (that's all I could manage by then). tongue.gif Then I actually made myself RUN home for no apparent reason, nearly collapsing outside my house. XD

terrible day...
haiz... didnt had enough rest and was out the whole day shopping.
straight went to gym right after that, was exhausted even after some light bench presses.
tried my deadlift after 4 sets of barbell bench press and 4 sets of dumbell incline bench press.
tried the belt, but its not comfortable at all for me and i am just now use to it.
was really weak today... barely can do much.
so i straight try for a max, but barely can do much.
did all 1rep only...
60kg, 100kg, 135kg, 165kg.
thats all i can do... after that punctured...
didnt want to go any further coz my back havent recovered.
but after that i went berserk on my lats and chest.
spam myself hard on it and it felt so good.

Masochists, all of you.

Added on July 11, 2009, 8:22 pmmofonyx: How did that happen? Did you ignore a deteriorating form, or did something just give way all of a sudden, or did you increment the weight more than usual? Gute Besserung.

kotmj I was squatting 5sets of 8reps for quite a while with regular increments. I was determined to get a specific goal before I flew back to Malaysia, and it was on track with my increments (i.e. not a big jump). I guess when the weight gets heavier, the demands for stretching increases. I do stretch it out before each workout, of course now I realise that this probably needs more attention.

I guess what broke me was that it hurt and I was training through the pain anyway because I was so determined to make my weight before I flew back to Malaysia. I did make that weight but at the cost of an injury.

I don't know how I got the pain in the first place but as far as I can recall, it was during the exam period and my head was not in the game. At the time, I was really frustrated and absent minded, so it probably hit me then and I was not fully aware of my condition. From then on, it is likely that with no proper recovery, a small injury which would've healed in 10 days was exacerbated by overenthusiasm, which leaves me to lick my wounds today.

Safe.

Same thing here. Squats and only squats, not from deadlifts or anything else. Squats also affect my knees. Not pain yet in the knees, but a discomforting sensation after a session.

Ouch. I suppose operating at one's limit (PR) is inherently risky. You've probably considered this, but I heard sets of 5's allow one to keep better form. One increases the sets to keep the volume high. (Rippetoe + Pavel Tsatsouline)

Ouch mofonyx, hope you get well soon! nod.gif

Know how you feel man, I sprained my lower back several months back due to doing squats and deadlifts on one day, then the next day martial arts and mountain climbing... took many months to recover from that. sweat.gif

manage to do my squat without a spotter. knees 90 degree parallel =.=
didnt know i improved so much.
haha...
i havent squat more than 100kg for almost 2 months.
my previous 1RM is around 120kg. i improved almost 20kg or more just by doing deadlifts itself.

135lbs - 10 reps
185lbs- 10 reps
205lbs- 8 reps
235lbs- 6 reps
255lbs- 6 reps
285lbs- 4 reps

i didnt go for 1RM coz no spotter, so wats the estimation of my 1RM?
