Its of no use going to UK or any other countries to study aircraft maintenace...coz its a waste of money...better do it locally but its better off if you get into airlines programme...

If u're in for da money and really wanna study overseas and you think you're capable of being in the above average group...then go for accountancy, a business degree or even law/medicine.. Big companies look for overseas graduates and pay them very very well...

studying aircraft maintenance overseas but in the end still need to obtain DCA's LWTR, might as well invest those cash...
As a matter of fact, the truth is that not many who graduate with a diploma/degree in ac maintenance are doing well...
Its better to get into the airline's sponsorship programme..
wasting 7 years of ur life for a license, might as well be a doctor..

Just through my experience...I hope there wont be anyone regretting...

I think one of the main reason that people are going overseas to study this course is because they wanted to study in a part147 institution which doesn't exists in malaysia. In other words, they can obtain the license faster than doing it locally. Not to mention, not everyone get the opportunity to join a airline sponsored programme.
I have a question here, you said that "not many who graduate with a diploma/degree in ac maintenance are doing well", does this include those who studied this course locally? such as nilai, miat, tafe etc.

After reading so many comments from the sifu here, passion seems to be the main motivation. But I'm kinda wondering if money give you any motivation? Because up until now, I don't believe that money can be taken out of the equation.

Doing overseas doesn't guarantee a faster path... and what i mean is that this is a profession which doesn't require you to obtain a diploma or a degree. And its a real tough way to work your way up to be an LAE but if you have what it takes as well as interest and determination, its all yours.

My point here is that why waste a large some of money overseas doing aircraft maintenance when there are other options available locally.
Again, airlines have their own "source" for trainees...hundreds each year..So competition is great. Only those who are really keen, i believe will succeed.

Just my humble opinion.

Money can play a part but never put it as your main motivation.
If you do something you like/have interest in, there's more satisfaction and joy to it rather than doing it just for the sake of money. It applies to any field, as long as u're GOOD, money will come looking for you or I would say opportunities would come knocking...

There's no need to get into this field just for the sake of money.

Maybe u're too naive or young to understand..
Just my 2 cents..

Money is still d all power element in looking for a profession.U don wanna b doing some kind of profession u like if it's paying u squat amount that's not paying your bills.Needless to say, passion alone is not enough.

All in all, being an aircraft maintenance engineer wont get u rich, but it's well enough to maintain a good lifestyle. If u are very capable and wanna be rich, the prospect for this job is low in that respect. Look into business, it'll reward u much more if ur efforts and capabilities are exceptional.

Well, jazzy has already mentioned that if you want to be rich, go take up pilot or open business.. why redundancy in your post..? LOL

Who says money is not important? But then, what I am trying to say is that there's more SATISFACTION and JOY to it rather than doing it just for the sake of money. It applies to any field, as long as u're GOOD, money will come looking for you or I would say opportunities would come knocking...

Didn't u get that or read it properly?

Ya maybe workshop.. but also looking forward to work in companies like CTRM.. but dont know whether can put in the working experience for the license or not.. rclxub.gif

our syllabus from sem 1 to sem 5 are the same for composite, avionics, and manufacturing (these are the older diplomas), sem 6 is OJT and during the final sem only then we'll be separated, we'll learn more about our respective course; composite, manufacturing and avionics...
