Hmm...1.7k might as well spend another 1-2 years to complete ur degree/diploma...better not rely on OT..
Some average and most above average freshies earn bout 2.8-3.8k as a start in many MNC companies, if u're UNDER average, then that's a different story.. I notice a number of people wanting to know bout salary. LAE earns bout 4k(2.6k basic plus 1k tech allow plus other small bits) with min 5 years training, some 6-7 years also still haven establish...FOR AK, i heard almost double but not sure if it applies to freshies.. I notice many are into this field just for the money(although not much or maybe they didnt calculate properly)..Talking bout passion and blah blah blah...out of 10, maybe 3 genuinely have the passion.. the rest put $$ as their priority.. This is a lifetime career, a journey or a path I hope people will give their best, it is possible only when interest and passion are involved, not just the cash... So, you do the math and weigh your options on what's best |

Good point, mathew!
If some of you guys are in for the money, think again! And like mathew's advice; "you do the math and weigh your options on what's best".. |

This is a life long profession. Interesting, challenging and rewarding(not necesarily in $$$ terms)
If you're in just for the $$$, this is not it. You're better off taking flying lessons and in 18 months you'll passed out as opposed to 5 years to be LAME, minimum. You make better money selling nasi lemak or char kuey teow.. QUOTE(cubix @ Apr 9 2010, 08:32 AM) |

Its of no use going to UK or any other countries to study aircraft maintenace...coz its a waste of money...better do it locally but its better off if you get into airlines programme...
If u're in for da money and really wanna study overseas and you think you're capable of being in the above average group...then go for accountancy, a business degree or even law/medicine.. Big companies look for overseas graduates and pay them very very well... studying aircraft maintenance overseas but in the end still need to obtain DCA's LWTR, might as well invest those cash... As a matter of fact, the truth is that not many who graduate with a diploma/degree in ac maintenance are doing well... Its better to get into the airline's sponsorship programme.. wasting 7 years of ur life for a license, might as well be a doctor.. Just through my experience...I hope there wont be anyone regretting... |

I didnt study overseas but there're many living examples..u'll notice them once u have experience in this field... I've seen many regretting and whining bout spending lots of money to study and in the end stil have not establish as an LAE.. eg: spending bout 80-100k and yet working as junior tech..
My point is, spending those cash wont guarantee you as a license engineer.. Like jazzy said, if you want to be rich, go take piloting course or open a business.. |

went to MAS hangar 02 subang yesterday, met some of the LAEs and other MAS staffs there, as well as their TAME..
it was my 1st time visit to MAS, did explore the workshops, the best part was when the slide raft deploy demo.. camera isnt allowed, so no pics to share here.. one of the staff said, the MAS TJT programme not bad actually, He said also, "If you got brain, you may be selected to higher level than JT, not necessarily you become JT forever la.." miat is not that bad too, but i personally think it is way better if you study and work on live aircraft..
