this board bios how?? suitable for newbie overclocker or not?? and compare to T power i45, wats ur opinion?
i aim for low vdroop and i'm using a Q6600. wan upgrade from EP35-DS3 to dis UD3P. i just scared the bios is too complicated.
dis board is priced around 550 bucks and if its advertised as 2oz copper pcb, it shud be more rigid rite?means support for TRUE full copper is better for dis board?

I read about this UD3P board and according to them, it works great with plenty of overclocking potential. However, I haven't had a chance to try as yet.

im afraid the answer is no:( you can refer to the pic below. that is before mounting the ccf into the bracket. imo, if u want to fit ccf into this board, u may need to damage the heatsink a lil.

Normal one, higher rpm fan (2000rpm) plus not LED. Red Scorpion have white led and lower rpm fan (1500rpm). So, basically, RS has bling but the performance for both is almost the same. smile.gif

its always better if u oc manually. do not use the auto oc feature on easytune6. btw, i think you should read kmarc's oc guide.
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...0#entry15451675

the guide may seems a lil different compare to your current board but as u read through you would understand how to oc it manually.

err..i tell u smtg. for the normal s 1283 and the red scorpion. i think fan rpm is the same.my mobo sensor detects only 1400+ rpm maximum. only the first batch of S1283 (normal version) has a 2k rpm fan. i can confirm wif u for this since rockrock also told me the same thing and i bought the normal s1283 coz i dun need the bling bling lights.

Xigmatek only has 2 models of 12cm HDT heatsinks, S1283 & S1284. S1284 has a slight difference in design and is used in Xigmatek Achilles while S1283 is used in Xigmatek S1283, Xigmatek Red Scorpion & Xigmatek Dark Knight.

i'm not so sure about the rev 2 stuff. Because if you read much further the supposed rev2 is a kind of prototype.

The fans for the heatsinks also differ somewhat from the early version. but there's no clear cut proof that there are rev2 and so on.

about the slight difference, need correcting.

S1283 including RS and DK has 3 copper heatpipes whereas S1284 has 4 heatpipes. This is majorly important and definately not "slight difference".

It plays a major role in the type of CPU that is suitable because the difference in heatpipe number, surface size and size of contact area.

btw, dark knight doesnt use copper. DK uses fully nikel all over its heatsink brows.gif . and sad to say that according to frostytech, the performance is poorer that S-1283 sad.gif

anyway this thread becoming air cooling thread edi tongue.gif

use nickel for the whole heatsink?? not just coating?? they are just cutting down on costs and also unfortunately performance with it..

i know nickel has a very low heat exchange. about half of copper. not great at all..

something like the asus triton or something that has the gold cover, it's expensive but performance wise it's way way unsatisfactory.

i observed it too, my mobo sensor detects only 1100+ rpm only , the box stated only able run 800-1500rpm ,and the rear fan i put another Xigmatek XLF-F1253 FAN , mobo sensor detect around 1500+rpm ,it will cause the heat stuck on inside? hmm.gif and should i get 2000+ rpm fan to get better air flow?? hmm.gif

the back casing fan you put exhaust or intake?

depend whether what position you put your heatsink. horizontal or vertical??

i put my 1284 horizontally and blow air upwards. i have another 2 top mounted casing fan for exhaust..

yup you can nod.gif . although the cooler looks gigantic but it provide enough clearance from the board's mosfet cooler and north bridge smile.gif

anyway here is some result too (look at post 327):

ya, i must adjust the cpu ref to get it stable, if leave it auto, it cant pass prime or IBT.
i use this formula to count, but i dont know it right o not.
it default 0.76/1.2vtt=0.633(45nm)
i set cpu vtt to 1.34
so 1.34x0.633=0.848 ~ 0.84-0.85
btw, i using F4 bios thumbup.gif

after adjusting, i can prime almost 5 hours biggrin.gif

no time to oc higher now..
i think 65nm quaddie should be easier to do 500fsb on this board, if the processor fsb wall is not reached, since it can take higher vtt.
from my pov,

Pros:
-very ocable on quad, 500fsb stable not a dream biggrin.gif
-bundle with esata bracket, with power cord thumbup.gif
-affordable
-cpu's energy saver work even after overclock brows.gif

Cons:
-not 8 phase power, not really good for a high quad ocable board
-no onboard on/off button
-cant fit my ifx-14 vertically sad.gif

im afraid the answer is no:( you can refer to the pic below. that is before mounting the ccf into the bracket. imo, if u want to fit ccf into this board, u may need to damage the heatsink a lil.

Nope, in fact, DeepCool Ice Blade Pro is quite compact, 1cm~2cm compared to other heatsinks due to its flat finish. According to our very own local reviews by coolice, Ice Blade Pro just rocks with 2 fans.

xigmatek punya SS kit come with a adhesive tape on the back plate...so that backplate will stick to ur mobo laugh.gif

u only need to remove ur mobo one time for 1st installation...the rest of the time u dont really have to remove ur mobo for uninstallation/installation process

remove 1 time already considered troublesome for me sweat.gif sweat.gif .but i guess it will pay off eventually brows.gif

and regarding the adhesive tape,i've heard tht it will be troublesome removing the plate if u plan to use it on other mobo or send ur mobo for rma,so the best way is to not use it.does it work tht way?

yup, once it is stick on the back of the mobo, it is quite difficult to take it off as the adhesive tape is very strong. but its not like it cannot be remove. after removing once or twice, it will be easier next time.

for me, once i remove the backplate, i remove the tape as well smile.gif

one of the best is TRUE and s1283/s1284 for intel procs..

but there's a problem with true because the base is uneven and it should be sanded down to make it flat...

if price is concerned s1283/s1284 is much better because it offers the same performance at a much lower price..

V8 is not one of the best at all...it just looks cool.. the cooling performance of v8 is disappointing and can't rival true/s1283. it sucks..

one of the best is TRUE and s1283/s1284 for intel procs..

but there's a problem with true because the base is uneven and it should be sanded down to make it flat...

if price is concerned s1283/s1284 is much better because it offers the same performance at a much lower price..
V8 is not one of the best at all...it just looks cool.. the cooling performance of v8 is disappointing and can't rival true/s1283. it sucks..
*
TRUE dont need lapping to beat its rival laugh.gif

its good on its original form flex.gif

from what i saw from online review seems like V8 can rival TRUE..... almost on par

hey u are using the same casing and mobo as me rclxms.gif rclxms.gif .a ques here to make sure,when u 1st insert your mobo in,are the holes around the proc (for the cooler) aligned properly with the 1 on the casing plate?because i cant seem to push all 4 pins in securely.i afraid the holes at the bottom are causing the prob,but on the other hand some ppl say it might require many force to do so

i think depend on budget and whether u want a single GC slot or two. for OC ability, i think UD3P should be better. correct me if im wrong smile.gif

-get DFI if u are a pro DFI or u are very free to learn and tweak that board tongue.gif

-gigabyte easy to OC put some ppl may think the board layout isnt really nice

-biostar broke the world record. what do u think?

conclusion, i still prefer gigabyte or biostar laugh.gif

stable in term of what?

dfi indeed is cool and its layout really is beautiful but too bad i dont really like it because DFI is known for tough and complicated tweaking board. to OC using that board isnt going to be easy. ask bryanyeo yourself. he sells them laugh.gif tongue.gif

New owner of EP45-UD3R reporting in.... hehe.....

MOBO: EP45-UD3R
CPU: QX6800
CPU cooler: Deep Cool Killer Whale
RAM: Kingston value ram ddr2 800 4GB
PSU: Gigabyte Odin Pro 550w
GC: Geforce 7900GT
Soundcard: Creative Audigy 2 ZS
OS: Ms Vista Ultimate

Just get the system up last night... installed vista... start to bump the cpu fsb up to 333 from 266 so the the cpu fsb become 1333mhz... i forget to set the ratio for the ram n bootup the pc (too excited)... luckily still get through and checking with cpuz... it show my ram ratio is 2:3 n my ram become 500mhz.... !!! wow still up n running for a cheap ram..... rclxm9.gif

tonight gonna stress the cpu and see whether it is stable or not... !!! but one damn problem is from the psu, it cant power up my 3rd HDD... it just dont work until i plug in another psu to tat HDD... damn psu... !!!! mad.gif

now have to remove that 3rd HDD so tat it wont disturb my bootup process and possible drag down the stability of the whole system.....

Now the cpu is just slight OC to 3ghz from 2.93ghz... will try to increase more if my ram test all went through tonite...
but one thing tat i want to ask for opinion, is this cpu tat hot? idle around 40+ n full load at around 58 max with default speed??? please advice!!! been a while not catching up with cpu info..... help please!!!!

by the way, is there any improvement on F5 bios? do i need to update it?

all three of those boards can get stable OC.. yeah for DFi it's needs quite some time to learn and personally if normal OC for gaming, t-power or ud3p would be my choice.

if you want to break world record at oc or want to show off benchmarks with gila2 tweaks and oc, maybe dfi..or dfi x48 board.. haha.

Are you sure it's the PSU? I'm using Odin 550W and I have 3 x HDD's, 1 x CDROM, 1 x 8800GT, X-Fi Elite Pro and watercooling pump plus lots of fan and it works like a charm for almost a year now smile.gif

Yours is GT or pro cause my is pro.... the reason i say so is because when i use other psu to power it up then it work...
by the way i got 2 cd rom n 3 HDD if plus tat dont work one... i think is the ampere problem not the watt cause i use my ups to monitor the load, it only consume no more than 300w pure including my lcd monitor also.... any one else got any idea?

GT or PRO gives the same output and the only difference is the expensive one has the software and sensor. I'm using the cheaper version and have an APC SmartUPS 750 running under my desk. I'm pretty sure it can power your rig or the PSU might be faulty?

The reading differs from one board to another so it's not a straight off comparison unless we're using the same board. Even so, it might not be 100% identical.

since u said like testing mobos then try all 3 mobos lo tongue.gif

imo all 3 boards are able to do up to 4.3 and higher. but still it has to depends on your proc too.

actually there isnt a set max temp a proc can take. it will just slowly degrade the proc until it dies if it is on high temp constantly... at 70c and above it is consider high and could damage your proc if it runs 24/7 smile.gif

hi all.got ques regarding overclocking and downclocking my ram

im currently using stock e8400 as shown on my sig.the cpu host frequency setting in my MIT is 333mhz x 9 (3.0Ghz).and my system memory multiplier is set to auto (1066mhz).

now i would like to downclock my ram to lets say 1000mhz (to solve a problem with my graphic driver after gpu oc),but theres only 4 multipliers option available for me - 2.0b,2.4b,3.2b,4.0b.setting it to 2.4 will put it at 800mhz which is too low imo sweat.gif ,setting it to 3.2 means no diff.so now what im gonna do to archieve around 1000mhz but not below 900mhz?and what timing should i set?

regarding overclocking is wheter i can straightly set the multiplier to 4.0 to overclock my ram?

now i would like to downclock my ram to lets say 1000mhz (to solve a problem with my graphic driver after gpu oc),but theres only 4 multipliers option available for me - 2.0b,2.4b,3.2b,4.0b.setting it to 2.4 will put it at 800mhz which is too low imo  sweat.gif ,setting it to 3.2 means no diff.so now what im gonna do to archieve around 1000mhz but not below 900mhz?and what timing should i set?

regarding overclocking is wheter i can straightly set the multiplier to 4.0 to overclock my ram?
*
you can go for either 416Mhz*2.4 or 500Mhz*2.

for 416Mhz, you might need to overclock your proc to 3.744Ghz (416*9) but you get the ram timing right. for 500Mhz you can reduce your proc multiplier to x6 to get 3.0Ghz (500Mhz*6) but you might need to tweak your voltage a lil due to high fsb smile.gif

so i will take the option of 500mhz*6 as suggested by you.i should set higher volt or lower volt?and what timings u recommend for 1000mhz ddr2?currently im at 5-5-5-15

of course higher voltage. but u need to try tweaking other voltage like pll, vtt and so on. dont increase your vcore only.

for timing, if for 24/7, i think cl5 should be a better option as it require less vdimm.
but if u are doing benchmarking, cl4 wont harm u but u need to be careful with your ram temp as cl4 may need higher vdimm for that high clock smile.gif

btw, happy ocing biggrin.gif im having exam for these few weeks cant really oc my rig at the moment cry.gif envy u man laugh.gif

anyway post some result including your bios settings ya. i will post some once i finish my exams icon_rolleyes.gif

lol.im more like downclocking the ram now rather than overclocking tongue.gif .i'm still a noob when comes to overclocking,only know the basics bout it.won't overclock my proc till i get my new cooler hopefully after cny.cl4 is 4-4-4-10 as shown in ur sig?ram temperatures i guess no need to worry too much as i have a cooling unit over it.so cl4 is better option?

i only know how to adjust the vcore accordingly.not sure bout others.is + 0.5v for each of them enough?

have u tried reading kmarc guide? it may be a lil old but i really learn and start from there smile.gif
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...hl=overclocking

it doesnt work like this. for pll and termination voltage u may do that but increase it slowly. if u free, try google around, and you might see some other ppl's settings and learn from there. thats what i do laugh.gif
for the references, i heard you need to calculate it but not really sure how. try refering here
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=840922&hl=gtl

btw,
termination voltage = vtt
reference voltage = gtl reference biggrin.gif

yeap i learn the basics from there.but just glance through like that because tldr tongue.gif

QUOTE
FSB overvoltage control ------ Normal (may need to increase if high FSB, usually if bus speed more than 450mhz)
(G)MCH overvoltage control - Normal (may need to increase if high FSB, usually if bus speed more than 450mhz)
CPU voltage control (very important) - let's mildly increase the vcore (+0.05v should be enough for now)

so this are the settings i need to set?

yup nod.gif but for p45 chipsets there are more options

QUOTE
Voltages
CPU VCore: 0.50v to 2.3v in 0.00625v increments
CPU Term Voltage: 1.1v to 1.7v in 0.02v increments
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.5v to 2.81v in various increments
CPU Reference: 0.76v to 1.010v in Various increments
MCH Core: 1.1v to 2.0v in 0.02v increments
MCH Reference: 0.76v to 1.040v in Various Increments
MCH/DRAM Reference: 0.9v to 1.76v in 0.02v increments
these are the voltage that i usually tweak but to be honest, im not really pro also so sometimes must try and error too laugh.gif

the thing is, the Dolby Home Theater feature wasn't listed on the site when i purchse my UD3R some times ago.. just wondering if it's an error on the page, or it's meant for rev 1.1 board or the feature can be enabled by just driver update??

Watch out for your temp, seem a bit on the danger side. Moreover you are using real temp compare to core temp its even higher.

there are other reasons for the extra amount of copper.

if u read through xtremesystems, it does help to reduce interference within the components of the motherboard during high FSB OCing.

i guess the 44c is the temp inside the pcb, because when load it will be much more hotter, like 70-80c.

the heatpipe is only cool the chipset, and we dont know where the mobo sensor is placed.
but it do getting hot or almost same hot as processor temp.
mine idle at 34c for mobo, but my vcore is only 0.976v

yeah.i already compare those two.the reason i want UD3L before is because its cheaper since i hv limited budget, but then now, since i saw recently a nice offer for UD3R (cheapest i've seen), i'll definitely go for the later one.

for 4.0 i think its shouldnt be very hard. usually if u increase your vcore will do. but for further better clock tweaking the other voltage is needed

Mine is 4.0Ghz on stock voltage. What setting do you want to know.
I can reach 4.6Ghz with 1.45v and 2.0v RAM.

1. Close EIST & C1E & Virtualuization.
Disable CPU Enhanced Half ( C1E )
Disable CPU EIST Function
Disable Virtualizaiton Technology

2. Use 1:1 divider

3. Manual set ur timing : -5-5-15

4. Performance level set to 10 1st

5. Manual set those voltages : Enable "CPU Host Clock Control"

6. CPU Host Frequency ( Mhz ),That is FSB. Your default shud b 333MHz

7. Ram voltage: 2v

8. Ram speed ration 1:1, because RAM speed run same frequency as FSB

9. Start pushing the Processor FSB.

I believe your PSU is the culprit.
Coolermaster Extreme is not real power and dont think enough for your current use.

from what i read up. Cpu Clock Drive and PCI Express Clock Drive is left as it is.

only tweak Cpu Clock Skew and MCH Clock Skew. for CPU, increase 50-150 and MCH 50-100.

you can google around for more detail infomation. try this link, its quite old but it explain about those settings

i am also not quite sure but it said to be used for increase the stability at high fsb, i guess we do not need to change it for dualcore until >500fsb.

im not quite sure corsair rams but iinm there is rev for your ram. if its rev 1, then the chip is D9GMH or D9GCT which is handpick (iinm). the rest of the rev is kinda suck at ocing. anyway use this list to indicate which ram has a better chip. always go for micron if possible smile.gif

for 2*2GB, it always has the limitation to opt for higher clock. usually if u want to hit high fsb (ex. fsb 600Mhz), 2*1GB ram is advised smile.gif

for sure it competible with this mobo, but u wont get a high clock due to the chip used in the ram itself.
and there is no d9gmh etc in 4gb kits so any rev is just almost the same.. smile.gif

u should use dual thread orthos for more accurate result and runing it for few hours. with 3 and 5 minute, it does not show that it is a stable setting smile.gif

try tweaking these voltages:

CPU Termination = 1.25 - 1.35
CPU Reference = 0.64 - 0.67% Of Termination voltage (this is just my settings. might not be accurate )
MCH Core = 1.2 - 1.3

for CPU Reference, there are different theories on tweaking them. from my testing, i use around 0.64 to 0.67% of Vtt. i might be wrong so if u want better answer, try googling more smile.gif

you might wanna increase clock and mch skew too. that could help a lil if u know how to tweak it brows.gif

higher fsb is good if your proc can do it. if u want to achieve higher clock, its always easier to increase the multiplier than the fsb. that's the reason why proc like QX6800 has higher multiplier.

yea, theoretically higher fsb giving u more bandwidth, but for a quadcore, to achieve high and stable fsb, it is more harder than dualcore.
beside of fsb, performance lvl is also important, for a quadcore, to acheive high fsb with low PL is very hard.
when u use high fsb (more than 400) required more vnb and vtt, and u will end up use divider 1:1 which give u PL9 or 10 at high fsb.
if u use fsb 333, u will able to use divider 4:5 which will give u PL6, this required stock vnb and vtt.
imo, the best combination is u can use fsb 400 with divider 4:5, but in this case u will need a ram that capable to do ddr1000 stable, this will give u the best performance of overall.
btw, i am not sure u understand what i am talking about or not notworthy.gif

oso. tell me which is better in term of performance in gaming? i dont have prob in gaming right now, just loading is quite slow.

400x9@10-higher ram speed

450x8@500x8-lower ram speed

68C for E8400 is quite high. mine is exception coz it's monster heat.
although my temp is 83C, i just use my rig for playing games n usually games wont make cpu usage go 100% hence my core temp wont go that high. tongue.gif

i would go for 515 x 8 instead of 460 x 9 because from wat i heard is higher fsb is better. correct me if i'm wrong. thx

beside, i will try to resit the hsf and see wat happens. at the same time, i'm thinking to get a TRUE extreme 120. i heard alot of good feedback for tis hsf. thinking how to settle my old hsf if i would get a new 1. tongue.gif

then i think its quite impossible to get PL6 unless you are willing to increase your vdimm. maybe you can try tweaking the RAM termination voltage which im not sure how it actually works.

for your information, increase vdimm will not allow u to get better PL.
u need to deal with fsb strap to get better PL.
u will get the best PL by using divider 4:5

my vcore is 1.3 in bios and dram voltage is 2.0. the rest are default or auto, no changes. my idle temp at 4.16 (520x8) is 50c and full load is 64c max. it's kind of strange compare to ur temp.

to be safe i return to bios and increased the vcore further to 1.343 v.and i passed LinX 10 round test,so i guess its ok now thumbup.gif .slight increase in temp but not much

Attached Image

ss take right after the test is done,so the temps havent settled down yet

i duno lol

since i cant see a slight diff between both (maybe its thr but cant feel it out),and SuperPi still maintain at 11sec,and i have to downclock my ram slightly now at 1:1.if i put it to previous setting which is 6:5 it will bring up to 1200mhz+ which is quite gay,dun dare take the risk to try it sweat.gif

depend. like mine. use 1:1 900mhz strap/latch 400. try use 5:6 1080mhz strap333/200 (cant remember but cant use 400).

seriously think the 1:1 is better for me. seem like 1:1 with strap 400 is much more faster.

this is just from my own experience though. if wrong, correct me coz i'm supernoob. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

You should get a C2D and overclock it smile.gif You'll get more fun since most of them hits 4Ghz easily. I don't think you'll get a 10C drop on a C2D but you can give it a try.

1. I own a P45 UD3R board. My motherboard temp as I check in everest are 60 d celcius. Is this normal on full load (non aircon) or should I worry about it.

2. Can overclocking/motherboard temp too high make the intergrated lan port died?

You can use a software called "Core Temp" as it'll give you a more reliable reading.

my ram is 800mhz..so u recommend setting to 8x?

that guide is more useful for P35. for P45 its a lil different and more option to tweak tongue.gif

i got another guide. here you go:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/gigabyte-e...257/index5.html

the multiplier is depends on how you wanna oc. if u think you fsb is too high, then lower it down and increase the multiplier.

example:
571 x 7 ==>cannot boot
500 x 8 ==>can boot

so if you want a boot-able or maybe a stable clock you might wanna go with 500 x 8. it also depends on your ram and ram timing. if your ram cannot boot at 1000mhz, then lower your fsb and ram multiplier and increase your fsb multiplier (if you understand what i mean tongue.gif)
btw, im also noob so correct if im wrong smile.gif

happy ocing biggrin.gif

The new thread that you gave me is on page 5 right? That shows the oc for EP43-DS3L right not ud3p?

Let's say I want to push to 4ghz and what do u suggest i do with the multiplier of the ram? what do you think my ram is capable of at what voltage and what timings?

like clawhammer said. 1:1 is better. even on everest benchmark, 1:1 ratio will show better result. unless you wanna OC your ram and see how far can it go.

1:1 means the fsb and ram speed is the same but remember DDR2 so this mean x2. so your ram speed is 800mhz while your fsb is 400mhz.

its something like this:
1:1 [400:400 x2]
fsb=400mhz
ram=800mhz

5:6 [333:400 x2]
fsb=333mhz
ram=800mhz

and so on....

hope this gives you a rough idea smile.gif

sorry for askin this cause i dont understand fully..but i think that ddr2 doesnt mean that we have to time it by two.. eg. now my ram has a multiplier of 2.4 and not 2 by default. though i understand that usually x2 multiplier for ram is used when overclocking.. am i right?

so that means that the setting for the ram is independent right? and what is the effect of 5:6 or others other then 1:1? pros and cons maybe..

from what i know, it works that way. what i meant was, the frequency of the RAM. DDR2 mean the frequency is doubled. its call double pumping or something (not really sure). anyway i got this from wikipedia. hope you get what i mean smile.gif

QUOTE
Like all SDRAM implementations, DDR2 stores memory in memory cells that are activated with the use of a clock signal to synchronize their operation with an external data bus. Like DDR before it, DDR2 cells transfer data both on the rising and falling edge of the clock (a technique called "double pumping"). The key difference between DDR and DDR2 is that in DDR2 the bus is clocked at twice the rate of the memory cells, so four bits of data can be transferred per memory cell cycle. Thus, without changing the memory cells themselves, DDR2 can effectively operate at twice the data rate of DDR.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM

btw, i have a found a few link which have almost the same question that you are asking. if you free, try reading it. its very useful smile.gif

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/250970-29-multiplier

I'm still confused but im learning more and more..thanks.. the first two questions i really need help with.

1. I can set the ram speed independently right? Like say I still wanna keep my 3.0ghz but OC my ram speed to 1000mhz??
E8400 stock
333 x 9 = 3000mhz

RAM 333 x 3= 1000mhz

OR CAN I DO THIS

RAM 500 x 2 = 1000mhz

The 2nd option is not doable right, because my ddr2 ram has a 400mhz limit so need to increase the multiplier when I reach 400mhz mark OR can I push it above 400mhz mark?

2. Btw, if I want to oc a CPU, is it better to increase Multiplier OR better increase FSB?

3. 1:1 means : [cpu fsb : ram speed] like [333 : 333 x2.4 ] right?

3. 1:1 means : [cpu fsb : ram speed] like [333 : 333 x2.4 ] right?
*
1. yes you can set your ram speed independently by using to the RAM multiplier available. your fsb and ram speed are related. whenever you increase your FSB, the ram speed increases too. the only thing you can tweak is the multiplier of the RAM. thus, your second option is suppose to be like this:

FSB = 500mhz FSB = 417mhz
Ratio = 1:1 or Ratio= 5:6
RAM = 1000mhz RAM = 1000Mhz
RAM Multiplier = 2 RAM Multiplier = 2.4

2. it depends how you wanna oc your rig. if you are aiming for the max cpu clock, for me, i'll increase the cpu multiplier. but if you wanna see how far your proc FSB can go, then usually i'll decrease the multiplier and increase the FSB. for example,

444mhz x 9 = 4Ghz ==>easier way to achive 4Ghz
666mhz x 6 = 4Ghz ==>almost impossible to achieve.

that is how i OC my rig. some ppl may disagree but this is just my point of view. some might wanna do both at the same time especially extreme OCer smile.gif

3. 1:1 means CPU FSB:Ram Speed. its like what i explain earlier.
QUOTE
1:1 [400:400 x2]
fsb=400mhz
ram=800mhz

5:6 [333:400 x2]
fsb=333mhz
ram=800mhz
Ingore the "x2" if its make you confuse. its just tells you that the speed is double as DDR2 is use

thanks man... after reading all those links that u gave me..it made sense and now i understand a lot more about ocing.

i want to show u my calculations:

FIRST

CPU 9x400 = 3600mhz RAM 2x400 = 800mhz

This is good because 1:1 right?
This can be done easily right because multiplier for cpu is the highest.

SECOND

CPU 7.5x480 = 3600mhz RAM 2x480= 960mhz

what i really want to know now is that can my 800mhz ram speed reach 480 speed so that it will be 1:1 (480:480)

you are most welcome bro smile.gif

about your question, firstly what ram are you using? imo just try it out. after ocing to 960mhz try stressing it. if bsod or error then you need tweak around with the ram settings smile.gif

if you using reaper then im not so sure. but i think most performance ram get 960mhz. the problem is with what vcore brows.gif

i think maybe i try this.. so that it could be as close as to the stock timings..

8x450=3600 and ram 2x450=900mhz...

got any links specific for p45 ud3p bios oc?

all still at stock settings but when i checked the bios ram settings..there's only 400mhz maximum..

i can see that there are numerous multiplier for ram but how do i increase the mhz? do i first need to overclock my cpu?

yes, you need to increase your FSB in order to increase your ram mhz. the multiplier is there for you to choose what ratio you wanna use.

btw, what you mean maximum of 400mhz? can show some pics coz im a lil rclxub.gif laugh.gif

i left CPU clock drive and PCI express default. for,

CPU clock skew ==> 150ps
MCH clock skew ==> 100ps

to be honest, im not quite sure what it is use for, but i just main main with it only laugh.gif read some guide and they said increase it to 100ps is very small difference only. not sure how true hmm.gif

now im still at default settings..did not overclock the cpu or ram yet.

the current CPU is 333 x 9

i want to oc the ram first, i can use various multipliers but for the ram now the option for ram speed is if im not mistaken 266 333 and 400.
400 is the limit now, how do i increase that limit.

i think i got what you meant edi. that is the latch. its call the MCH latch right?

that is not your RAM speed. its just a latch for you to adjust your ram speed. something to do with your multiplier. if you notice different latch has different multiplier. i cant really remember everything on mch latch but i hope this quote and link helps you
QUOTE
ou can select FSB yourself, otherwise the board determines the final speed of the CPU and not you. Final ram speed is derived by the Strap/FSB speed you have picked...

some examples on my P5Q Dlx

333FSB set : (with the E8600 with multi 10 totals 3.3ghz)

If I set Strap 266 : I have the choice between 835/1002 or 1335 ram speed
If I set Strap 333 : I have the choice between 667/800 or 1066 ram speed
If I set Strap 400 : I have the choice between 666/887 or 999 ram speed

400FSB set (with the E8600 with multi 10 totals 4ghz)

If I set Strap 266 : I have the choice between 1003 or 1203 ram speed
If I set Strap 333 : I have the choice between 800/961 or 1280 ram speed
If I set Strap 400 : I have the choice between 800/1066 or 1200 ram speed

So according the FSB you impose on the CPU and the selection of your preferred Strap, final ram speed is calculated via the according divider...

On my parents board with the E8600 I run 4Ghz daily (on air) with 266 strap; rams at 1003Mhz as it gives me better performance as the 400 Strap which runs the ram at 1066…

Last gigabyte board I build for a friend was the P35DS4, I have those running 400FSB too with ram at 1002Mhz on the Q6600 (8 multi though)... think you are mixing up some stuff... plz post a picture(s) of ya bios settings

oh man.. yup that is what i meant.. MCH latch or something like that..

yeah..if i set 400 then the multiplier will reduce to only a few.. if lower latch then more multiplier options.. biggrin.gif

read half of the page in the link..but still need time to take it all in..

thanks again man for understanding my question.. biggrin.gif

ok la.. i dont want to pening2 anymore..hehe. if on this p45-ud3p i set fsb to 480 or 400 will the ram automatically set itself to be 1:1 with the cpu or need to do adjusting myself?

just set ur fsb to 450x8 n set ur mch latch (strap) to 400 n choose divider 2.00D at bios. it'll give u 1:1 with 900mhz speed. this setting is really easy to get. remember, use 400 on strap.

oh okay.. thanks uzer85.. i'll do that..

1. Just want to understand so later i can other kinds of settings. What is mch latch really? and divider is the multiplier for ram? just want to know..

2. Can I get timings like 4-5-5-xx or something like that? something near to 4-4-4-15?

tighten timing mean u're making ur ram running faster. not the speed though, it's the process of how the ram process the data that increase. yup, u can change it but that depend on how well ur ram can take it.

fsb:ram. let say u use 400fsb with 5:6 on divider.

400/5=80
80*6=480
the calculation is like this. one number value is 80. that's different with different fsb though.

MCH latch.The higher the strap the faster your computer will run up to matching FSB of that strap.

okay i understand what is timings and it harder to keep a tight timing like 4-4-4-xx with a 2gb stick over 800mhz. im okay with this.

okay you said "just set ur fsb to 450x8 n set ur mch latch (strap) to 400 n choose divider 2.00D at bios. it'll give u 1:1 with 900mhz speed. this setting is really easy to get. remember, use 400 on strap."

lets say i want to use 500 x 7 for cpu. what do i need to do to get a 1:1 with the ram.. cause i dont really understand what is the diff between 2.00d and 2.00a etc..

just put that setting in bios n put strap 400 2.00D 1:1. 500fsb mean ur ram will be 1000mhz in speed. if ur ram is 1066 kit, it'll take it well but remember this, 500fsb mean ur mobo will run at that speed. 450fsb is quite easy to get, but 500fsb is kinda hard. need to tweak quite a bit.hehehe

2.00A is using 200 on strap if i'm not mistaken. higher speed but lower strap is not good la.
ram strap n fsb is kinda the same thing (it's function to be exact).

example, u use higher multiplier with lower fsb, ur proc speed will increase higher but not ur overall system.
same with ram strap, low strap but higher speed, ram speed is sure faster but not overall performance.

better go with 450x8. easy to get, but remember to up ur NB volt/MCH Core a little bit, maybe to 1.3V. running ur mobo with high fsb mean ur mobo require more power to even faster. same like OCing proc. hehehe

hope this will help. thumbup.gif
if anything wrong, correct me. after all, i'm still learning. laugh.gif

if cpu easy like 450x8 = 3600.
how to calculate ram and what is the D and A, C in 2.00D ..

can uzer85 or OC4/3 show me how to calculate ram mch latch n divider. like what times what equels what. i just want to know how to calculate it.

try it oredi. use 1000mhz speed but not 400 on strap. the different with 900mhz, strap 400 is almost nothing. maybe 900mhz using 400 on strap is faster. sad.gif
maybe it's just me, but i can really feel that 900mhz on strap 400 is faster. sweat.gif sweat.gif
try 520x7 1:1 1040mhz 400 on strap. this is the best i think (for me). but need to tweak quite a lot. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Make it this way:
Say 400FSB
5:6=DDR 2 960/480
4:5=DDR 2 1000/500
2:3=DDR 2 1200/600
1:2=DDR 2 1600/800
Get it?
