this board bios how?? suitable for newbie overclocker or not?? and compare to T power i45, wats ur opinion?
i aim for low vdroop and i'm using a Q6600. wan upgrade from EP35-DS3 to dis UD3P. i just scared the bios is too complicated. dis board is priced around 550 bucks and if its advertised as 2oz copper pcb, it shud be more rigid rite?means support for TRUE full copper is better for dis board? I read about this UD3P board and according to them, it works great with plenty of overclocking potential. However, I haven't had a chance to try as yet.

Xigmatek only has 2 models of 12cm HDT heatsinks, S1283 & S1284. S1284 has a slight difference in design and is used in Xigmatek Achilles while S1283 is used in Xigmatek S1283, Xigmatek Red Scorpion & Xigmatek Dark Knight.

i'm not so sure about the rev 2 stuff. Because if you read much further the supposed rev2 is a kind of prototype.
The fans for the heatsinks also differ somewhat from the early version. but there's no clear cut proof that there are rev2 and so on. This is majorly important and definately not "slight difference". It plays a major role in the type of CPU that is suitable because the difference in heatpipe number, surface size and size of contact area. use nickel for the whole heatsink?? not just coating?? they are just cutting down on costs and also unfortunately performance with it..
i know nickel has a very low heat exchange. about half of copper. not great at all.. something like the asus triton or something that has the gold cover, it's expensive but performance wise it's way way unsatisfactory. |

the back casing fan you put exhaust or intake?
depend whether what position you put your heatsink. horizontal or vertical?? i put my 1284 horizontally and blow air upwards. i have another 2 top mounted casing fan for exhaust.. |

yesterday my fren bought the EP45-UD3R. compare wif his previous Biostar P43 mobo, dis UD3R boots at bios much slower(the gigabyte logo there). wanna ask UD3P users, is it the same with u all?? overclock potential for UD3R and UD3P is it the same? since both also 6 phase power (UD3L has 4 phase power),and the only difference i noe is UD3P has crossfire option only.

QUOTE(ham_revilo @ Nov 6 2008, 10:40 PM) im afraid the answer is no:( you can refer to the pic below. that is before mounting the ccf into the bracket. imo, if u want to fit ccf into this board, u may need to damage the heatsink a lil. just curious, can it be fit when place vertically (fan blowing upward) instead?http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh138/O...87/IMG_0177.jpg |

Nope, in fact, DeepCool Ice Blade Pro is quite compact, 1cm~2cm compared to other heatsinks due to its flat finish. According to our very own local reviews by coolice, Ice Blade Pro just rocks with 2 fans.

remove 1 time already considered troublesome for me
and regarding the adhesive tape,i've heard tht it will be troublesome removing the plate if u plan to use it on other mobo or send ur mobo for rma,so the best way is to not use it.does it work tht way? |

-get DFI if u are a pro DFI or u are very free to learn and tweak that board
-gigabyte easy to OC put some ppl may think the board layout isnt really nice -biostar broke the world record. what do u think? conclusion, i still prefer gigabyte or biostar This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Jan 8 2009, 04:53 AM |

New owner of EP45-UD3R reporting in.... hehe.....
MOBO: EP45-UD3R CPU: QX6800 CPU cooler: Deep Cool Killer Whale RAM: Kingston value ram ddr2 800 4GB PSU: Gigabyte Odin Pro 550w GC: Geforce 7900GT Soundcard: Creative Audigy 2 ZS OS: Ms Vista Ultimate Just get the system up last night... installed vista... start to bump the cpu fsb up to 333 from 266 so the the cpu fsb become 1333mhz... i forget to set the ratio for the ram n bootup the pc (too excited)... luckily still get through and checking with cpuz... it show my ram ratio is 2:3 n my ram become 500mhz.... !!! wow still up n running for a cheap ram..... tonight gonna stress the cpu and see whether it is stable or not... !!! but one damn problem is from the psu, it cant power up my 3rd HDD... it just dont work until i plug in another psu to tat HDD... damn psu... !!!! now have to remove that 3rd HDD so tat it wont disturb my bootup process and possible drag down the stability of the whole system..... Now the cpu is just slight OC to 3ghz from 2.93ghz... will try to increase more if my ram test all went through tonite... but one thing tat i want to ask for opinion, is this cpu tat hot? idle around 40+ n full load at around 58 max with default speed??? please advice!!! been a while not catching up with cpu info..... help please!!!! by the way, is there any improvement on F5 bios? do i need to update it? |

QUOTE(lightonokira @ Jan 8 2009, 07:18 AM) all three of those boards can get stable OC.. yeah for DFi it's needs quite some time to learn and personally if normal OC for gaming, t-power or ud3p would be my choice.if you want to break world record at oc or want to show off benchmarks with gila2 tweaks and oc, maybe dfi..or dfi x48 board.. haha. |

GT or PRO gives the same output and the only difference is the expensive one has the software and sensor. I'm using the cheaper version and have an APC SmartUPS 750 running under my desk. I'm pretty sure it can power your rig or the PSU might be faulty?

For G0 stepping the max temp my proc can take before it dies out is 71c right? actually there isnt a set max temp a proc can take. it will just slowly degrade the proc until it dies if it is on high temp constantly... at 70c and above it is consider high and could damage your proc if it runs 24/7 This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Jan 9 2009, 02:00 PM |

set your cpu clock to 444mhz and ram multiplier to 2.4
or 533mhz and ram multiplier to 2. This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Jan 15 2009, 05:30 PM |

MIT (MB Intelligent Tweaker) > Cpu Host Frequency & System Memory Multiplier tweak those option to get the clock you want you can try, 444Mhz*2.4 or 533Mhz*2 btw, how do they snap the bios screen so clear. as though it is a screen shot Source This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Jan 15 2009, 09:50 PM |

I got a Gigabyte EP45-UD3L.
Also 2oz copper... @ham_revilo, do we need to ctrl+F1 for the options to come out..? the extra one, not the standard MIT. |

hi all.got ques regarding overclocking and downclocking my ram
im currently using stock e8400 as shown on my sig.the cpu host frequency setting in my MIT is 333mhz x 9 (3.0Ghz).and my system memory multiplier is set to auto (1066mhz). now i would like to downclock my ram to lets say 1000mhz (to solve a problem with my graphic driver after gpu oc),but theres only 4 multipliers option available for me - 2.0b,2.4b,3.2b,4.0b.setting it to 2.4 will put it at 800mhz which is too low imo regarding overclocking is wheter i can straightly set the multiplier to 4.0 to overclock my ram? |

lol.im more like downclocking the ram now rather than overclocking
i only know how to adjust the vcore accordingly.not sure bout others.is + 0.5v for each of them enough? This post has been edited by ZeneticX: Jan 21 2009, 10:21 PM |

have u tried reading kmarc guide? it may be a lil old but i really learn and start from there
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...hl=overclocking it doesnt work like this. for pll and termination voltage u may do that but increase it slowly. if u free, try google around, and you might see some other ppl's settings and learn from there. thats what i do for the references, i heard you need to calculate it but not really sure how. try refering here http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=840922&hl=gtl btw, termination voltage = vtt reference voltage = gtl reference This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Jan 21 2009, 10:33 PM |

yeap i learn the basics from there.but just glance through like that because tldr

the thing is, the Dolby Home Theater feature wasn't listed on the site when i purchse my UD3R some times ago.. just wondering if it's an error on the page, or it's meant for rev 1.1 board or the feature can be enabled by just driver update??

there are other reasons for the extra amount of copper.
if u read through xtremesystems, it does help to reduce interference within the components of the motherboard during high FSB OCing. |

Motherboard temp is 44c even with the heatpipe? Is this normal. Seems hot to me as I amd not adding any voltage to the proc, motherboard or ram.

QUOTE(piumiu @ Feb 17 2009, 08:36 PM) That hot? i have good ventilation as Im using CM690 with all 90CFm fan. the heatpipe is only cool the chipset, and we dont know where the mobo sensor is placed.I thought the heatpipe would really help in cooling the heat down. How hot is your mobo? but it do getting hot or almost same hot as processor temp. mine idle at 34c for mobo, but my vcore is only 0.976v |

Cpu Clock Drive and PCI Express Clock Drive is left as it is. only tweak Cpu Clock Skew and MCH Clock Skew. for CPU, increase 50-150 and MCH 50-100. you can google around for more detail infomation. try this link, its quite old but it explain about those settings http://www.overclock.net/faqs/119265-how-c...-save-your.html |

QUOTE(efilah @ Feb 23 2009, 07:47 AM) One question here. im not quite sure corsair rams but iinm there is rev for your ram. if its rev 1, then the chip is D9GMH or D9GCT which is handpick (iinm). the rest of the rev is kinda suck at ocing. anyway use this list to indicate which ram has a better chip. always go for micron if possible can my Corsair XMS2 DHX PC-6400 2x2GB CL4 compatible and gud enuf for OCing with this EP45-UD3R? just wanna make sure.i intend to buy the mobo very soon. for 2*2GB, it always has the limitation to opt for higher clock. usually if u want to hit high fsb (ex. fsb 600Mhz), 2*1GB ram is advised |

higher fsb is good if your proc can do it. if u want to achieve higher clock, its always easier to increase the multiplier than the fsb. that's the reason why proc like QX6800 has higher multiplier.

QUOTE(uzer85 @ Mar 1 2009, 04:07 AM) thx. just do 450x8 on 1.331Vcore. yea, theoretically higher fsb giving u more bandwidth, but for a quadcore, to achieve high and stable fsb, it is more harder than dualcore.any explanation why u suggest me to keep it under 400?. higher fsb is better i heard. beside of fsb, performance lvl is also important, for a quadcore, to acheive high fsb with low PL is very hard. when u use high fsb (more than 400) required more vnb and vtt, and u will end up use divider 1:1 which give u PL9 or 10 at high fsb. if u use fsb 333, u will able to use divider 4:5 which will give u PL6, this required stock vnb and vtt. imo, the best combination is u can use fsb 400 with divider 4:5, but in this case u will need a ram that capable to do ddr1000 stable, this will give u the best performance of overall. btw, i am not sure u understand what i am talking about or not This post has been edited by hengmy: Mar 2 2009, 11:59 AM |

Errr heng,400 with 4:5 divider is DDR 2 1000mhz,2:3 is DDR 2 1200mhz and best pl possible is 5-6beside of fsb, performance lvl is also important, for a quadcore, to acheive high fsb with low PL is very hard. when u use high fsb (more than 400) required more vnb and vtt, and u will end up use divider 1:1 which give u PL9 or 10 at high fsb. if u use fsb 333, u will able to use divider 4:5 which will give u PL6, this required stock vnb and vtt. imo, the best combination is u can use fsb 400 with divider 4:5, but in this case u will need a ram that capable to do ddr1200 stable, this will give u the best performance of overall. btw, i am not sure u understand what i am talking about or not |

i duno lol
since i cant see a slight diff between both (maybe its thr but cant feel it out),and SuperPi still maintain at 11sec,and i have to downclock my ram slightly now at 1:1.if i put it to previous setting which is 6:5 it will bring up to 1200mhz+ which is quite gay,dun dare take the risk to try it This post has been edited by ZeneticX: Mar 14 2009, 01:43 AM |

1. I own a P45 UD3R board. My motherboard temp as I check in everest are 60 d celcius. Is this normal on full load (non aircon) or should I worry about it.
2. Can overclocking/motherboard temp too high make the intergrated lan port died? |

You can use a software called "Core Temp" as it'll give you a more reliable reading.

my ram is 800mhz..so u recommend setting to 8x? i need to read this again from ham_revilo ..he directed me to this thread.. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f=73&t=623648&st= thanks again ham_revilo This post has been edited by alpha_company: Mar 22 2009, 04:51 AM |

that guide is more useful for P35. for P45 its a lil different and more option to tweak
i got another guide. here you go: http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/gigabyte-e...257/index5.html the multiplier is depends on how you wanna oc. if u think you fsb is too high, then lower it down and increase the multiplier. example: 571 x 7 ==>cannot boot 500 x 8 ==>can boot so if you want a boot-able or maybe a stable clock you might wanna go with 500 x 8. it also depends on your ram and ram timing. if your ram cannot boot at 1000mhz, then lower your fsb and ram multiplier and increase your fsb multiplier (if you understand what i mean btw, im also noob so correct if im wrong happy ocing This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Mar 22 2009, 07:14 AM |

The new thread that you gave me is on page 5 right? That shows the oc for EP43-DS3L right not ud3p?
Let's say I want to push to 4ghz and what do u suggest i do with the multiplier of the ram? what do you think my ram is capable of at what voltage and what timings? like clawhammer said. 1:1 is better. even on everest benchmark, 1:1 ratio will show better result. unless you wanna OC your ram and see how far can it go.

sorry for askin this cause i dont understand fully..but i think that ddr2 doesnt mean that we have to time it by two.. eg. now my ram has a multiplier of 2.4 and not 2 by default. though i understand that usually x2 multiplier for ram is used when overclocking.. am i right?
so that means that the setting for the ram is independent right? and what is the effect of 5:6 or others other then 1:1? pros and cons maybe.. |

DDR2 mean the frequency is doubled. its call double pumping or something (not really sure). anyway i got this from wikipedia. hope you get what i mean so that means that the setting for the ram is independent right? and what is the effect of 5:6 or others other then 1:1? pros and cons maybe.. QUOTE Like all SDRAM implementations, DDR2 stores memory in memory cells that are activated with the use of a clock signal to synchronize their operation with an external data bus. Like DDR before it, DDR2 cells transfer data both on the rising and falling edge of the clock (a technique called "double pumping"). The key difference between DDR and DDR2 is that in DDR2 the bus is clocked at twice the rate of the memory cells, so four bits of data can be transferred per memory cell cycle. Thus, without changing the memory cells themselves, DDR2 can effectively operate at twice the data rate of DDR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAMbtw, i have a found a few link which have almost the same question that you are asking. if you free, try reading it. its very useful http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/243684-2...lp-ratio-memory http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/250970-29-multiplier http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247410-28-please (Very detail and understandable) This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Mar 23 2009, 07:49 AM |

I'm still confused but im learning more and more..thanks.. the first two questions i really need help with.
1. I can set the ram speed independently right? Like say I still wanna keep my 3.0ghz but OC my ram speed to 1000mhz?? E8400 stock 333 x 9 = 3000mhz RAM 333 x 3= 1000mhz OR CAN I DO THIS RAM 500 x 2 = 1000mhz The 2nd option is not doable right, because my ddr2 ram has a 400mhz limit so need to increase the multiplier when I reach 400mhz mark OR can I push it above 400mhz mark? 2. Btw, if I want to oc a CPU, is it better to increase Multiplier OR better increase FSB? 3. 1:1 means : [cpu fsb : ram speed] like [333 : 333 x2.4 ] right? QUOTE(alpha_company @ Mar 23 2009, 08:53 PM) I'm still confused but im learning more and more..thanks.. the first two questions i really need help with. 1. yes you can set your ram speed independently by using to the RAM multiplier available. your fsb and ram speed are related. whenever you increase your FSB, the ram speed increases too. the only thing you can tweak is the multiplier of the RAM. thus, your second option is suppose to be like this:1. FSB = 500mhz FSB = 417mhz Ratio = 1:1 or Ratio= 5:6 RAM = 1000mhz RAM = 1000Mhz RAM Multiplier = 2 RAM Multiplier = 2.4 2. it depends how you wanna oc your rig. if you are aiming for the max cpu clock, for me, i'll increase the cpu multiplier. but if you wanna see how far your proc FSB can go, then usually i'll decrease the multiplier and increase the FSB. for example, 444mhz x 9 = 4Ghz ==>easier way to achive 4Ghz 666mhz x 6 = 4Ghz ==>almost impossible to achieve. that is how i OC my rig. some ppl may disagree but this is just my point of view. some might wanna do both at the same time especially extreme OCer 3. 1:1 means CPU FSB:Ram Speed. its like what i explain earlier. QUOTE 1:1 [400:400 x2] Ingore the "x2" if its make you confuse. its just tells you that the speed is double as DDR2 is usefsb=400mhz ram=800mhz 5:6 [333:400 x2] fsb=333mhz ram=800mhz This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Mar 24 2009, 07:35 AM |

thanks man... after reading all those links that u gave me..it made sense and now i understand a lot more about ocing.
i want to show u my calculations: FIRST CPU 9x400 = 3600mhz RAM 2x400 = 800mhz This is good because 1:1 right? This can be done easily right because multiplier for cpu is the highest. SECOND CPU 7.5x480 = 3600mhz RAM 2x480= 960mhz what i really want to know now is that can my 800mhz ram speed reach 480 speed so that it will be 1:1 (480:480) |

you are most welcome bro
about your question, firstly what ram are you using? imo just try it out. after ocing to 960mhz try stressing it. if bsod or error then you need tweak around with the ram settings if you using reaper then im not so sure. but i think most performance ram get 960mhz. the problem is with what vcore This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Mar 24 2009, 05:56 PM |

i think maybe i try this.. so that it could be as close as to the stock timings..
8x450=3600 and ram 2x450=900mhz... got any links specific for p45 ud3p bios oc? all still at stock settings but when i checked the bios ram settings..there's only 400mhz maximum.. i can see that there are numerous multiplier for ram but how do i increase the mhz? do i first need to overclock my cpu? yes, you need to increase your FSB in order to increase your ram mhz. the multiplier is there for you to choose what ratio you wanna use.
btw, what you mean maximum of 400mhz? can show some pics coz im a lil |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Mar 25 2009, 10:10 PM) now im still at default settings..did not overclock the cpu or ram yet. i think i got what you meant edi. that is the latch. its call the MCH latch right?the current CPU is 333 x 9 i want to oc the ram first, i can use various multipliers but for the ram now the option for ram speed is if im not mistaken 266 333 and 400. 400 is the limit now, how do i increase that limit. that is not your RAM speed. its just a latch for you to adjust your ram speed. something to do with your multiplier. if you notice different latch has different multiplier. i cant really remember everything on mch latch but i hope this quote and link helps you QUOTE ou can select FSB yourself, otherwise the board determines the final speed of the CPU and not you. Final ram speed is derived by the Strap/FSB speed you have picked... http://www.xtremesystems.org/FORUMS/showthread.php?t=206389some examples on my P5Q Dlx 333FSB set : (with the E8600 with multi 10 totals 3.3ghz) If I set Strap 266 : I have the choice between 835/1002 or 1335 ram speed If I set Strap 333 : I have the choice between 667/800 or 1066 ram speed If I set Strap 400 : I have the choice between 666/887 or 999 ram speed 400FSB set (with the E8600 with multi 10 totals 4ghz) If I set Strap 266 : I have the choice between 1003 or 1203 ram speed If I set Strap 333 : I have the choice between 800/961 or 1280 ram speed If I set Strap 400 : I have the choice between 800/1066 or 1200 ram speed So according the FSB you impose on the CPU and the selection of your preferred Strap, final ram speed is calculated via the according divider... On my parents board with the E8600 I run 4Ghz daily (on air) with 266 strap; rams at 1003Mhz as it gives me better performance as the 400 Strap which runs the ram at 1066… Last gigabyte board I build for a friend was the P35DS4, I have those running 400FSB too with ram at 1002Mhz on the Q6600 (8 multi though)... think you are mixing up some stuff... plz post a picture(s) of ya bios settings This post has been edited by ham_revilo: Mar 26 2009, 01:44 AM |

oh man.. yup that is what i meant.. MCH latch or something like that..
yeah..if i set 400 then the multiplier will reduce to only a few.. if lower latch then more multiplier options.. read half of the page in the link..but still need time to take it all in.. thanks again man for understanding my question.. ok la.. i dont want to pening2 anymore..hehe. if on this p45-ud3p i set fsb to 480 or 400 will the ram automatically set itself to be 1:1 with the cpu or need to do adjusting myself? QUOTE(alpha_company @ Mar 26 2009, 08:42 PM) just set ur fsb to 450x8 n set ur mch latch (strap) to 400 n choose divider 2.00D at bios. it'll give u 1:1 with 900mhz speed. this setting is really easy to get. remember, use 400 on strap. |

oh okay.. thanks uzer85.. i'll do that..
1. Just want to understand so later i can other kinds of settings. What is mch latch really? and divider is the multiplier for ram? just want to know.. 2. Can I get timings like 4-5-5-xx or something like that? something near to 4-4-4-15? This post has been edited by alpha_company: Mar 27 2009, 12:20 AM |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Mar 27 2009, 12:18 AM) oh okay.. thanks uzer85.. i'll do that.. tighten timing mean u're making ur ram running faster. not the speed though, it's the process of how the ram process the data that increase. yup, u can change it but that depend on how well ur ram can take it.1. MCH latch. The higher the strap the faster your computer will run up to matching FSB of that strap. |

okay i understand what is timings and it harder to keep a tight timing like 4-4-4-xx with a 2gb stick over 800mhz. im okay with this.
okay you said "just set ur fsb to 450x8 n set ur mch latch (strap) to 400 n choose divider 2.00D at bios. it'll give u 1:1 with 900mhz speed. this setting is really easy to get. remember, use 400 on strap." lets say i want to use 500 x 7 for cpu. what do i need to do to get a 1:1 with the ram.. cause i dont really understand what is the diff between 2.00d and 2.00a etc.. |

@uzer
why dont u run ur proc at 400x9 so u can run ur ram at 1000mhz. |

QUOTE(hilmiangah @ Mar 27 2009, 07:30 PM) try it oredi. use 1000mhz speed but not 400 on strap. the different with 900mhz, strap 400 is almost nothing. maybe 900mhz using 400 on strap is faster. maybe it's just me, but i can really feel that 900mhz on strap 400 is faster. try 520x7 1:1 1040mhz 400 on strap. this is the best i think (for me). but need to tweak quite a lot. |
