42" with native 1024x768 only  biggrin.gif ... Referred to the user manual just now and it says there that the PC input is able to receive WXGA 1366x768 though. Dunno whether did I misinteprete or that particular detail is just for the 50" PV80.

liddat no point to drive it with anything higher.. I think if you use 1024x768 (VGA standard) it'll look awkward cos it's stretched sideways in the plasma (1024x76 but widescreen 16x9).. maybe you need to use your PC software player to correct the aspect ratio..

Yeah, it does look awkward. Its kinda like squished a little. Ah well, it's ok I guess coz my laptop is not my primary usage to be hooked up with my PV80 anyway. Thanks for the prompt response. FYI, I've searched high and low for a software to tweak this ratio aspect and also updated the video driver on my laptop oredi but still no results.

hey those of you with PV80s, do you guys use the Eco mode? I find that it dims the picture down abit too much. but sometimes it does help if the movie contains alot of white and bright scenes... i usually watch with the lights turned off u see...

i calibrated my tv with the ISF monster DVD and these are the settings I came up with...

Standard mode or Eco mode, my settings are the same.

Contrast - 75
Brightness - 56
Colour - 53
Sharpness - 50
Temp - warm
Colour Management - On (i kinda prefer it with on...)

not sure if these settings are right. but would appreciate your feedback on the CATS system on our pannys. worth using?

I use the cinema mode - coz i gave a smoother gamma courve ( this i found thru AVS forum). Still less than 100 hrs yet of usage. I just moved the slider -2 to the left (for contrast, brightness, colour sharpness) and turn off colour management. the Eco mode will try to adjust the contrast via its sensor below the panel using CAT. IMHO, if you already do calibrate your display, no need to use colour management - coz it will override your level setting. Then again PQ is in the eye of the beholder - i like mine au-naturalle.. thumbup.gif

will share later with you my setting..I have AVIA disc, but no chance to do calibration yet. You can try the AVS forum. Look for px80 owner list. They has alot of user setting that u can use as a guide..Let me know which one is your favourite.. cool.gif

readjusted my settings. I agree, cinema mode gives better blacks and overall better colours.

here are my settings for both cinema and standard

Cinema

Contrast - 75
Brightness 51
Colour 53
Sharpness 50

Standard

C - 75
B - 55
C - 44
S - 50

Both settings are set to warm and colour management and overscan to off.

Dont forget the source (DVD Player) will vary from different users, hence there will be different settings. Also PQ is really an individual taste. I keep my contrast settings below 50 for Astro. Through AVIA DVD disk i noticed my PV80 is pretty much good when i set the contrast and bright to 50. Once you get the blacck and white levels good the colour is up to preference. Just my 2 cents tongue.gif

you call those awards ar? what hi fi mag? home cinema choice mag LOL... UK mags are not the authority in Video, they dunno nuts about Hi-def Videos source and Tvs..leave it to the americans they define HD..

besides those are 2007 ratings.. LOL now already 2009...
what's top at that time may not even be good now..

anyway, even this 428 is called Kuro, it's a 1024x768 panel.. sorry but after having used this kind of Plasma resolution for over 3years, it's not a serious resolution for watching HD video.. kuro or not doesn't matter.
but of coz if you say this 428 is very good for astro and DVD I wouldn't argue.. but then again for 6.5k I rather have a 50 inch 80series Panasonic plasma with 1366x768 resolution.. now that would be a HD capable panel.
