Owners of PV80, do you guys notice any hissing noise from the back of this plasma when the unit is switched off on Standby? Mine gives out a small hissing sound from the back (loudest especially on the right top corner looking from the back) and I'm not sure whether is this a normal thing or should I go back and ask to change for a new one. I just got this unit delivered to me last night actually. I really appreciate all the inputs I get. Thanks ppl.

maybe got small snake trapped inside? tongue.gif
but seriously.... i'd ask their technician to check it out, it's a good time to test out the service support from Panny... 5 yrs warrant ma smile.gif

Lol.... How I wish it was the snake and not any electrical component defect. But weird thing is, I went out for breakfast and just got back, and the hissing sound just went away for some reason. Will monitor this closely and call up Panny if this sound still persists. 5 years warranty is super good for the purchase of this unit. Yet to post my warranty card to them though. GOnna have to do it later today or by latest tomorrow.

If you bought it from SENQ, you no need to mail it back, they will handle everything for you for the 5 years  biggrin.gif

But I bought mine from the Panny Roadshow in Gurney Plaza, Penang. And I think the organizer was BHB (Ban Hin Bee). Their price for 0% 12 months instalment plan is very attractive. They delivered the unit to my place and chopped their company stamp on the warranty and told me to refer back to my sales person. But reading the instructions, I am supposed to send back the warranty card to Panny using the inserted envelope. So I decided to just get it done on my own la. Mailing it very easy only la. LOL....

how much did you pay for it?
*
The final price I got was RM3496 for 0% 12 months instalment plus free shipping, 1xViera HDMI cable, 1xViera S-Video cable for Astro, and a set of 9 pieces of Tupperware. Then I went into the cash chamber and managed to snap up RM77 ringgit. So, altogether I paid only RM3419. However, I had a small feud with my sales person yesterday as he told me last minute that they have no stock pula while he promised me they have plenty stock. Then finally they managed to find 1 unit (dunno whether is it a display set or not) and sent it to me last night. Anyone has any idea on how to check the panel display time on the PV80??

Thank you. You saved my purchase. I just checked mine and the display time is way over 366 hours and switched ON and OFF over 230 times. Called the branch office a while ago, and the manager apologized and promised me a new set once the received new stock for it next week. The manager was very nice and talked in a friendly manner. I guess I can highly recommend BHB to anyone who wants to get it at the roadshow in Penang. Thanks again @siewsphone.

Mine is ok. No hissing sound. I bought it last month. RM3679 sad.gif
You can check the manufactured date printed on the label at the back of the unit. Mine manufactured Oct 2008. Yeah, anyone know how to check the panel display time?
*
Mine is April 2008. Older than yours. Haha... Refer to @siewsphone post above for instructions. They may have sent me a display unit, but at least she's willing to swap mine with a new unit once she receives it. So, I guess it is still OK gua.

I just checked mine. Time - 00211.45 and Count - 0000209

When you get your new plasma, check again the month of mfg lor..... smile.gif If not the latest month, reject it...... biggrin.gif
*
Yeah, gonna go over to the shop to inspect it this time before they send it to me. I gotta make sure it's brand new. I don't mind if it was manufactured like 2 or 3 months ago, Just as long as it's new from an unopened box. But the tips given by @siewsphone for checking the display time is really really helpful. Really owe him big time. biggrin.gif ....

hmmm... one of their salesperson tried to push me to commit on Sunday at RM3299, saying no such price will be offered on Monday.
he mentioned the free gifts are the HDMI cables and S-video cables. no mention of the Tupperware (which is worth a bit of money i guess) nor the shipping (but i assume it should be free)
i didn't ask about any surcharge for easy payment though but i know SenQ and SEC can do it for a RM25 fee
*
You definitely got a better deal compared to me. My offered price was RM3399, then plus instalment plan it adds up to RM3496 then minus the cash I grabbed from the cash chamber of RM77, my total is RM3419. Different sales person, different deals I guess. But i compared the price to the forummer who is selling the PV80 at RM3299 cash payment only and the forummer charges RM50 for delivery. So, the final price from the forummer is RM3349 cash and the price I paid is RM3419 with CC. So, the RM70 extra is for the instalment plan paid with CC. Not a bad deal for myself I feel.

yup... the Red/while/yellow inputs... do u know where these are at the PV80HM?? tongue.gif thanks..
*
OK.. Looking at it now, there is 1 point in front of the Plasma below the panel at the center, and the rest are all located at the back of the unit. None are located at the sides though.

Added on December 30, 2008, 11:31 pmto each their own but i checked out Samsung LCD vs Panny PY850h.. to be honest, i liked preferred the sammy's surreal colors but also wanted the plasma's deep blacks so was in a dilemma until i saw the Sammy A950... got the surreal colors & the deep blacks so... decision made rclxms.gif
*
I'm already in Penang. Where's my teh tarik?? Lol... Just joking. Tried a few downloaded .avi movies upscaled to 1080p and played Super Mario Galaxy on my PV80, breathtaking man. Even my wife was stunned. But she complained a bit when she tried her HK drama jack sparrow DVDs. However, it's way better compared to my previous 29" CRT non-flat-screen. Lol...

Are you sure your PV80 is better than CRT TV when playing Jack Sparrow's DVD o not ?  tongue.gif
*
My PV80 is way better than my CRT when playing Jack Sparrow DVDs, only in terms of size. tongue.gif .... Not interms of quality. Lol... Coz our sitting distance is about 8 feet away and the pictures and subtitles are bigger on the PV80. So, my wife can see better coz she refuses to put on her glasses eventhough she memang short-sighted one.

Alright guys, BHB exchanged my PV80 to a brand new unit today. Upon powering up, I checked the Service Menu and display time was 0000:00 and manufactured dated is Dec 2008. I demonstrated to the tech who installed my PV80 for me the service menu and the guy was impressed. He now knows that there are methods of checking the display time on the PV80. All in all, my purchase with BHB not bad la. At least in the end I got a brand new unit.

I heard that the manufacturer's engineer can reset the display time on their tv. If the engineer can do it, whos to say that the the retails chains can't do it either.
*
These retail guys don't even know that the service menu existed. Therefore, I seriously doubt they are able to reset it. And btw, this new PV80 even has the new smell. biggrin.gif .... So, I'm content.

well i dun think it's covered but my dead pixel was visible from day 3 itself so i wasn't too happy about it. if panny didn't change it for me, the shop would have had to change it for me. I suspect it was an open unit... coz the palstic stickers weren't around the TV when i got it. didn't realize this until i saw my dad's PV80 coming with everything intact!

hey guys, i still can't access my service menu coz i don't see an INFO button on my remote. what's the right button for it?

thanks
*
Funny thing is, the display unit that I got had the stickers on the top right edge showing the features of the PV80 and also the "SDHC Here" circular sticker at the bottom of the panel. Then when my brand new unit arrived, it didn't have those stickers at all. Hence, I would've thought the stickers were only meant for the display units only and the brand new units wouldn't have them. What about the rest of the PV80 owners here? Anyone care to share the conditions of the brand new PV80??

Any owners of PV80 managed to connect their laptops to it and not get the squished effect?? I connected mine and my PV80 managed only to detect an XGA input via the PC input to display the resolution of 1024x768. I am unable to set it to WXGA, but my laptops native resolution is 1440x900 though which is oredi 16:9 ratio aspect I guess. Anyone knows any method for the PV80 to get it to accept WXGA input of 1366x768?? Thanks.

your PV80 is 42inch 1024x768 native ? or is this 50inch 1366x768?
*
42" with native 1024x768 only biggrin.gif ... Referred to the user manual just now and it says there that the PC input is able to receive WXGA 1366x768 though. Dunno whether did I misinteprete or that particular detail is just for the 50" PV80.

liddat no point to drive it with anything higher.. I think if you use 1024x768 (VGA standard) it'll look awkward cos it's stretched sideways in the plasma (1024x76 but widescreen 16x9).. maybe you need to use your PC software player to correct the aspect ratio..
*
Yeah, it does look awkward. Its kinda like squished a little. Ah well, it's ok I guess coz my laptop is not my primary usage to be hooked up with my PV80 anyway. Thanks for the prompt response. FYI, I've searched high and low for a software to tweak this ratio aspect and also updated the video driver on my laptop oredi but still no results.

finally settled for the 42PV80HM
however, i notice there is an intermittent buzzing sound when the unit is turn OFF (not standby)
what i meant by intermittent is that comes on for a while, then go off, then come back on after a while
i doubt that it only happens after being used cause i heard it again this morning and the last time i used it is yesterday afternoon and had it switched off after that
the power socket is plugged in at the mains and the mains is left ON all the time

anyone experience this with their unit?
will be checking the usage time later today but the unit looks unused as it came properly packed
*
My previous display unit gave out a buzzing sound at the corner top left at the back of the unit everytime after I switch off the plasma and leave it on standby. Then after a while, it will go away. My new replacement unit didn't have such sound though.
