hey guys, I bought a PV80 about 2 weeks ago and noticed a dead pixel almost to the centre of the screen. I know it's extremely rare to get a dead pixel on a plasma but somehow I got it.
Managed to get Panny to come see and they agreed to change the set for me.
My question is, is it normal to see some ghosting/image retention on the screen after a marathon viewing of Astro On Demand with the logo at the top right being static for a few hours? I've read a few people who have this problem but theirs sound much more severe. My problem is only visible when I off all my lights and leave the TV on with no signal on eg: after turning off the PS3. I can see some ghosting images of the PS3 XMB menu icons, the astro logo at the top, etc.
So, my question is is this normal? Will it go away after watching other various types of movies? I read in various sites that plasmas these days are resistant to burin-in so I'm inclined to think that this is just a temporary retention of image just like how it can happen on the old CRT if a logo was screened on it for a long time. Another thing is, my panel might be faulty since it has a dead pixel and now the ghosting...
My dad just got his PV80 today and after watching astro on demand for a few hours, the ghosting is present but not very apparent...

Mine looks like a black/reddish dot at the centre. 10? That's mental man. But overall if u do a search on google they dun mention much bt dead pixels in plasma.
Welwitchia, so no worries abt the image retention eh?

thanks for all the info and tips guys. yup, i dun really care coz i believe panny would have done something about it and most people would steer clear of plasmas if these problems were apparent and severe. back to enjoying my PV80. can't wait for my replacement unit. the dead pixel is a real eyesore

QUOTE(gyver @ Jan 5 2009, 11:02 AM) I didn't know that Panasonic has a dead pixel warranty. Is it covered under the 5 years warranty plan? well i dun think it's covered but my dead pixel was visible from day 3 itself so i wasn't too happy about it. if panny didn't change it for me, the shop would have had to change it for me. I suspect it was an open unit... coz the palstic stickers weren't around the TV when i got it. didn't realize this until i saw my dad's PV80 coming with everything intact! hey guys, i still can't access my service menu coz i don't see an INFO button on my remote. what's the right button for it? thanks

finally got it! my TV is about 2 weeks old and found out it's been on for 122 hours and turned on and off 85 times. does it come default at 100 hours (ran 100 hours at factory?) or it's supposed to be 0? Added on January 5, 2009, 9:06 pmwait a minute... can't be only turned on for 22 hours... hahaha. This post has been edited by Gilthoniel: Jan 5 2009, 09:06 PM

hey those of you with PV80s, do you guys use the Eco mode? I find that it dims the picture down abit too much. but sometimes it does help if the movie contains alot of white and bright scenes... i usually watch with the lights turned off u see...
i calibrated my tv with the ISF monster DVD and these are the settings I came up with...
Standard mode or Eco mode, my settings are the same.
Contrast - 75 Brightness - 56 Colour - 53 Sharpness - 50 Temp - warm Colour Management - On (i kinda prefer it with on...)
not sure if these settings are right. but would appreciate your feedback on the CATS system on our pannys. worth using?
Added on January 11, 2009, 4:51 pmoh yeah, do u guys turn overscan on or not?

QUOTE(ic-klass @ Jan 11 2009, 05:02 PM) I use the cinema mode - coz i gave a smoother gamma courve ( this i found thru AVS forum). Still less than 100 hrs yet of usage. I just moved the slider -2 to the left (for contrast, brightness, colour sharpness) and turn off colour management. the Eco mode will try to adjust the contrast via its sensor below the panel using CAT. IMHO, if you already do calibrate your display, no need to use colour management - coz it will override your level setting. Then again PQ is in the eye of the beholder - i like mine au-naturalle.. will share later with you my setting..I have AVIA disc, but no chance to do calibration yet. You can try the AVS forum. Look for px80 owner list. They has alot of user setting that u can use as a guide..Let me know which one is your favourite.. readjusted my settings. I agree, cinema mode gives better blacks and overall better colours. here are my settings for both cinema and standard Cinema Contrast - 75 Brightness 51 Colour 53 Sharpness 50 Standard C - 75 B - 55 C - 44 S - 50 Both settings are set to warm and colour management and overscan to off.
