Where to get DVD region 1 other than from Speedy.
I bought 1 ori dvd from speedy, stated DTS at the back but when played it, it is only English 2 channels. So disappioooooonting. What a crap dvd they sold. Charging thrice the ahem D9. I still think the BD ripped D9 sound is better than some of the Ori from Speedy.

Harvey Norman sellling the Pioneer 410v for RM360. I was there yesterday. Finally chosen the Philips 5996K instead at RM380 (free Giraffe HDMI cable) since it also plays SACD. Besides, the 5996K looks way much better with slim design and better outlook. PQ is commendable.

PQ & AQ are so much improved. I have many used region 1 dvds for sale and if you're interested, you may go to my thread here, http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=901277&hl=FYI, not all region 1 dvds contain a DTS track as only DD is compulsory for all dvd movies, DTS track is optional and it's up to movie studios to use it or not. The pirated dvds all have DTS tracks but if you listen carefully, it's just a DD track but they have cracked up the output but not the sound quality. DTS track on a pirated dvd is always louder right?

I think brand is just a matter of perception. Will appreciate if u can give us a short review of the 410v.

Hi, need some advice here. If I buy the Pioneer DV410V, if I put in a normal avi file, say a 350MB TV show avi file, will the DVD player upscale it to 1080p?
Assuming I have a 1080p Full HD plasma, can the above DVD player upscale it to 1080p?
If can, will the image be much clearer than just playing the avi file straight from the USB?

okay, tried the 410v last nite, seems to have slight edge in picture quality over 696, especially with upscale images of DVDs. there are no 5.1 out like the 696 tho. of course no SACD nor DVD-A lah. but for the price i paid, this 410v is great as mainly my folks will be looking at PQ, not really SQ. two thumbs up!

Also, I would like to ask the advice of those who have experienced 1080p here. Is there really any real difference between 720p and 1080p and can one honestly see the visible difference? I ask because I am planning to buy a 50 inch Panasonic plasma and the price difference between a 720p HD ready and a 1080p Full HD is double! I am more inclined to buy the HD Ready as it is half the price.
