i got the 410. region free and it plays any disc fine.. no comment about the 5996 though.. but i'm sure it has no problem as well.. dvd players nowadays are advanced.. not like last time, very picky about the disc we put in.
initially i wanted to get the dv-610 for better audio, but it doesn't come in black.. grr!

QUOTE(tangks51 @ Jan 2 2009, 11:44 AM) Thanks for the various comments from members - the 410 is indeed good value. Saw at Norman at Mid Valley selling with free HDMI cable at RM369 but no stock. Denki Mid Valley & Times Sq sell at RM379 but also no stock. Denki KLCC sells at RM399. Jusco AU sells at RM399 wth no HDMI cable Managed to get at One Utama at RM379. Works fine with my Bravia 40S400 in 1080p that's strange. it should come with a HDMI cable in the box.. Jusco tipu customer kah.. anyway.. i also bought mine at Best Denki OU. spec and price wise, it is really a bargain.

to those who are using pioneer dv-410 and using the HDMI output.. which colour setting do you use? RGB/Full Range RGB/Component?
When I set Full Range RGB I loss details in dark areas and Component seems to be better. But Full Range RGB supposed to be better right?
tv is PV80H and I haven't done any calibrations yet (still breaking-in)

I would like to know.. apart from the ability to play SACD, how much better is the 610 when compared to the 410, in term of dvd playback performance. is there a significant performance advantage? but they are using the same chip right? i bought the 410 coz it comes in black, while 610 only in silver.

QUOTE(shich80 @ Jan 12 2009, 01:10 PM) Hi overfloe, I'm not very sure on the dvd playback performance, however according to the sale person DV610 give a better sound as compare to DV410 since it is using a different sound chip. Price wise...I'm being offer a minor different as compare to DV410 and this DV610 does come with a piece of HDMI cable. Added on January 12, 2009, 12:12 pmHi tHeRiDdLeR, Ya, I do get a piece of FOC HDMI cable. How was the performance of your player so far? ok, thanks.. just like I expected.. if i want to upgrade, might as well buy a blur-ray player

i just tried to play 720p divx (converted from .mkv) on the DV-410.. guess what, the player does not recognize the file at all.. so I googled and found out that the player only supports divx with resolution of 576 (PAL) or 480 (NTSC). i haven't tried WMV so don't know whether it can support or not..
but even the .avi file has lower res than 480, the picture is good and a lot better than astro LOL.. but i expected more on dvd playbacks.. not satisfactory.. would love to try tosh's xde-500 and compare with dv-410 if got the chance. i hope this is the last dvd player i will ever buy (later upgrade to BD player).

mikapoh, if you are refering to the original superbit dvds, they are not rips from BD. just dvd remastered for higher bitrate. this is the best pic quality for a dvd. but superbit dvds are now discontinued. for ahem BDs, there are two types. one is cheaper with paperbox packing (like you mentioned) and the other one is supposedly ripped from BD and converted to DVD9. this one has hard plastic casing with hologram sticker. being sold at RM18. this one is a proper rip but I do not know if there is any difference from this compared to the regular DVD copy. regardless the resolution in DVD is still 720x480 right? theoritically the BD rip to DVD9 should have better quality but in the end the resolution is still the same, but maybe different bitrates? i think i'll skip this BD rips and go straight to upgrade to real BD when the player prices have come down

i think those dvds do not contain real DTS sound, hence the poor audio quality.

QUOTE(gsdev @ Jan 26 2009, 10:44 AM) All those with DV410 and 42PV80HM combination please check if you have this problem, When the DV410 output is set to RGB or Component via HDMI, there is interference like 'light snowy" image on blacks. You can test this with switching on the DV410, it will show the PIONEER logo with black background. Snowy white dots fill the screen over the black back ground. When the DV410 output is set to FULL RGB via HDMI, this does not occur. There is a smooth black back ground. You may have to set your brightness a little bit more to see this issue. Please test on your sets and let me know if this is the same. If not i may have a problem. no problems for me when using either three output settings. dv-410 on pv80h

QUOTE(ixiel @ Jan 29 2009, 01:28 PM) funny lah.. i just found out how to look for quality ahem dvds. dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + blue) = dvd screener (dts, dolby supported) highest quality dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + orange) = dvdrip (not the real dts/dolby) sound like stereo but converted to dts/dolby (not nice) and video so-so dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + purple) = cinema copy = avoid this. direct dvd copy - what colour?

my dv-410 has problem reading dirty/scratched discs.. and apparently it cannot handle unfinalized dvd-r burned with divx files. first time load, can play. second time burn, load, cannot play. and the disc cannot be used for multisession anymore.
