funny lah..  biggrin.gif

i just found out how to look for quality ahem dvds.

dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + blue) = dvd screener (dts, dolby supported) highest quality
dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + orange) = dvdrip (not the real dts/dolby) sound like stereo but converted to dts/dolby (not nice) and video so-so
dvd9 logo (yellow'9' + purple) = cinema copy = avoid this.

Thanks for the tips.... coz I still blur on this ????

For BJ complex penang, the ah bengs sell in 3 categories :-

normal @ RM 5 - lousy PQ
aka Dual layer or real DVD9 - RM 8~10 - PQ 2nd best
BD copy to DVD @ - RM10 - Best PQ

So far tried the BD - DVD copy very clear on my 42" LCD. Did not try the 'real DVD9' yet coz the price nearly the same & PQ not too good.

When I go back home will look at the color code and compare..

Added on March 6, 2009, 11:40 pmsince I'm a noob on this LCD thingy, I need some expert advise on how to improve my HDTV setup in terms of PQ only.

current config : 42" Full HD LCD - OEM
DVD player : China brand with unbranded Component cables).
My video source mainly is ahem type BD to DVD type.
Budget = RM 500 to spent what options is the best/RM ?

1) I have a pc with HDMI port , will it improve the PQ if I used my PC to watch DVDs by utilizing the HDMI port. Haven't got a hdmi cable yet . Is there any upscale by the PC hardware ? Tested with vga and power DVD - not visible difference with DVD/component setup.

2) Get an upscale DVD player - any advantage or improvement in PQ since I am using ahem BD - DVD cd? I read that Philips brand is good enough ? I don't need advance sound system coz I'm not using any HI FI system or USB port so any recommendation.

I don't want to spent more than 500 bucks and see PQ the same as my current setup. I also don't intend to get WD palyer coz no source & time for torrent movies..thks !

2)

in Harvey Norman Pg, 5996K is selling at RM378 + free hdmi cable. SEC is selling old model 5986 at RM399. I haven't got solid info whether 5996K or DV410 is better at reading JS dvds.. I'm also targeting both models..

ic...seems like Pioneer is better at handling JS disc , harvey norman in PG is selling DV410 at RM399 + free branded hdmi cable. cons = No mic for karaoke and no 5.1 output.

Bought Pioneer 410 last night. Overall satisfied with it. But, when I connect the Digital Audio Out using optical cable, there's no sound. It's only for DVD that support digital audio is it ?

Hope that you have got your sound by now. Anyway also for Xchris infor, there is an optical and a coaxial output for 5.1 sound. You need to connect this with the appropriate cable to your av amp to get the sound. You must remember not to connect your rca cables to the same input in your av amp as rca can override your digital input. What you can do is to connect either optical/coaxial to dvd input and rca to CD input in your av amp. So you can hit the dvd buttion for digital sound and cd button for analog. Doby or dts is selected using the dvd player if the feature is present in the dvd itself.
The below RM400 investment is value for money as you can now see dvds using the full screen in your full HD LCD without the distortion caused by using the zoom function of the LCD TV. As far as which player gives the best picture, I think you've got to find a retailer who is willing to match each player with your current LCD TV. I'm pretty happy with my pioneer 410 with my Sony Bravia 40s400 and old Onkyo av txds595 which are all budget equipments.

Unfortunately i still unable to get the digital audio through optical cable. But i think it's not the Pioneer at fault, bcos i tested the DVD on xbox360 with optical out, also no audio except high pitch noise. I think my JS DVD doesn't support digital audio.

Anyway, i'm getting coaxial cable to test again with Pioneer player, if possible, will get original DVD to test as well.
