Hopefully the D60 kit price will be down with the D90 launching.

I'm thinking to grab Sigma 30mm f1.4 to pair with my D40 as well. Ebernie, anything to stop me from doing so ? tongue.gif

Other than money and other awesome lenses (say the 10-20 Sigma thumbup.gif), nothing hehehe

The 30mm Sigma, is a keeper for me. And to think I got it 2nd hand for 'only' RM1.1k. When the sun sets and cameras go to bed, out comes the D40+30mm Sigma wink.gif

OK, enough poison. Photos taken in Kota Kinabalu during a recent trip last weekend. Went with my full arsenal of gear: Bagman Trekka, SB600, 8 alkaline batteries, 30mm f1.4, 10-20 Sigma f4-f5.6, 18-200 Sigma f3.5-f6.3, 7 GB worth of SD. Came back with around 600 RAW files.

Hi,

Just bought a D40X, trying to use it to take macro photos for my products...can someone please advice how to take good macro shots? I was using sony T20 before this to take macro shots of my products, it seems better in terms of the closeness i can get to my products. So i guess maybe something is wrong with my settings or my techniques. blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

Please advice...thanks so much! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Ahhh you are probably using the kit lens? Its not a macro lens so you are not going to get as close as your T20's macro mode. Get a Raynox, or get a macro lens to get the job done. Alternatively, you can get lens like the 70-300mm Macro (Tamron?) and get closer than the kit lens.

What do you think ? Perhaps if go for SB600 first would be wise  hmm.gif

Last weekend, I got to play around with my friend's 450D and her EX450 (Canon's speedlite, not sure if the model name is correct or not). It was my 1st time trying out a speedlight...so syiok one! I was bouncing the flash left right and centre, haha...also off the ceiling! The potrait shots I took simply amazed me...a far cry from the built-in flash for my D40, which produces pics that look like passport photos, haha. Suffice to say I'm really poisoned to get an SB-600 instead of a 55-200mm for my next upgrade smile.gif so in short bro, try out both things 1st (speedlight and additional lens) b4 u decide.

Will definitely trying out the Raynox first before jumping to higher end macro lens. Judging from the pic you taken by Raynox, it was so nice icon_rolleyes.gif

I see, yeah, SB600 is the speedlite that doesnt burn the hole in wallet yet performing wise. I really love the bounce flash. Today went to photoshoot skate competition in my college, the built in flash for my friend's D40 wasnt sufficient at all cry.gif

if u ask me, i would say get the sb600 first, then only get the 55-200mm VR..
flash has so much of usages not just for portrait shooting..
the 55-200mm VR has a small aperture in 200mm, either u need higher ISO, together slower exposure time.. or u just fire the flash gun,
of coz u won't fire flash gun if u are stalking the birds.. that's why birder use large and fast tele lens.. lol...

whats the major differences between D40 and D60 (except megapizels)?

besides Nikon D40/D60, what other brand DLSR cameras falls on the same level (price/specs/performance wise)?

any idea? pls advice.

D40 kit lens do not come with the VR (vibration reduction) function.
VR is like 'anti shake' kinda thing

it's useful i would say
