You forgot to mentioned that the mealies are already gutloaded so we don't need to gutload them before feeding to our hamsters

gutload?...what it mean?? Chubby Hamster V10, Rolling Fat Furballs

Someone help?
QUOTE Hey guys, I've seen you all saying a 1.5 ft plastic guppy tank would be enough to house a WW. How exactly do you measure the 1.5 ft? |

QUOTE(CheeseBeT @ Aug 25 2008, 02:11 PM) I'm lazy to type so I'll quote from a website which I googled.QUOTE Remember that what goes into the crickets, mealworms and other insect prey is what you are ultimately feeding your pet. Keeping crickets and other insects at home for a few days before feeding them (or raising your own) has the tremendous advantage of allowing you to "gut load" them before giving them to your pet. This simply means feeding them nutritious foods, so the nutrition is passed on to your pet. Products can be bought at the pet store and mail order insect suppliers that are specially fortified for gut loading. These are convenient and generally good quality, but can be expensive. You can also feed them such things as tropical fish flakes, leafy greens (romaine, mustard greens, kale, collard greens), squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, oranges, apples, potatoes (peelings are fine), alfalfa, baby rice cereal, wheat germ, prepackaged reptile foods, dry cat food, etc. Those aquarium shop which sell mealworms, crickets, etc will most probably have been feed on cardboards or newspaper. So do you want your hamsters to eat cardboard or newspaper? Another saying is: "What you are what you eat" Added on August 25, 2008, 2:32 pm QUOTE(z3alousn3ss @ Aug 25 2008, 02:15 PM) I think 1.5 feet means the width of the tankThis post has been edited by blurjoey: Aug 25 2008, 02:32 PM |

QUOTE(blurjoey @ Aug 25 2008, 02:06 PM) I don't mean to shoot at you but did you even read this thread? Nezu did reply on what the differences between the 2 and the reply is on top of this page. Please read from the first page. You can also read the previous v9. actually I know but I asked again because those two lines don't mean anything to me...a newbie.Read that you have winter white hamsters. If you don't sand bath then the fur will be oily and the hamster will look uncomfortable and miserable. It's like you not bathing at all. How would you feel with all that sweat, dirt, dust, oil, etc on you? Habitrail staple food is cheap low quality food. You should get Prestige Hamster or Harry Hamster. You can also try nezu's smoothie which is made from veges and fruits for a balance diet for the hamster. Carrots alone are not enough. You can put 1-2 teaspoons of dry food a day. Fresh food will depends as it is different from one to another hamster. But do try to get nezu's smoothie as the results are really good. you don't know how hard it was just getting any information on these hamsters. When I got the hamster at Ikano, I asked what food they eat (he answered oats), how often or how much to feed (he doesn't know), and other things like differences between species, etc...I got no useful answer from him or anyone else nearby. btw, someone just told me that mine's Winter Sapphire... |

Well, it ain't that hard once you know what "kind" of hamster you're going for, unless you went to the pet shop without knowledge of the hamster you're buying, which you should have done it in the first place.
Let say you're interested in rearing a Syrian, google "how to take care a Syrian hamster", if it's a WW, just replace the Syrian word with Winter White, and so on for Robo... If you don't know how a Syrian/WW/Robo looks like, try searching for the image for those names. it's just so damn easy bro I knew nothing about hamster last 3 months, but i search for info about hamster quite often and eventually everything is in my head now Bath sand - WW only (bathing purpose) Toilet sand - Syrian & WW (pee/poo purpose) Food - What nezu taught me is, always refill the bowl once it went out, so your hamster will become very chubby This apply the same to VEGE, always refill. If you can't feed your hamster smoothie due to transport problem, like myself, buy mealworm and feed 3-4 worms everyday in order to provide your WW enough protein, to be chubby enough |

I know how hard to get the information cause I bought my first hamster pair (robos) from Pet Safari also last year. After that we have been reading since v5 till now. Also research through google which helps. And yes those people in Pets Safari know nothing about hamsters. Oats alone is not good for the hamsters. The best hamster food available is Prestige Hamster and Harry Hamster. But do try to get Nezu's smoothie. There are a few pros in WW here. You can try asking them later. |

QUOTE(iluv2zzz @ Aug 25 2008, 06:39 PM) Yes. Had hard time to tame them as I don't have lots of time to spend with them. I get persuaded by the shop keeper that robos is the cutest among all hamster breed and very easy to take care, of cos with other wrong infos. My robos are with my friend who love them very much and I started to have syrians. So now, I'm more into syrians. |

I do conduct my own research...if I know what to type lar
tomorrow will be visiting Pet Shack to get some stuffs and Harry Hamster food. Right now I only fear my hamster doesn't like that food. The habitrail food I give her right now...she only likes to eat the walnut. Besides that and the carrot, I don't think she's eating anything else. Its hard to see with the 'living room' being so messy still |
