Thanks...Feel very sad now..just bought only.
1 Male and Female but Female duno why die...
*
Sound like what was happened to my DigDig as he died from wet tail after we bought him back. Wet tail can be due to stress. Do check the tail whether is wet or the body is like sweating. If she is then most probably is wet tail disease. This is a fatal disease and they can died within 24 hours if not treated. So sorry for you. What you can do now is, clean the whole cage she stayed before this with antiseptic solution (eg: Delto) and wash with plenty of water to disinfect it, so that the germs will not pass to another hamster in the future. If you male hamster is cage together with your female then please do observe the male from now, get everything change NOW and disinfect the cage. Wet tail is very contagious.

I understand how is she feel when lost a hamster even it just with you for few days. Ask her not to be too sad as sometimes this will happen, no one to be blame. I do cry for all my hamsters no matter they died or gone missing. cry.gif Stress and maybe the hamster can adapt well with the new environment and developed wet tail. Learn from experience. That's why we always mention of leaving them alone for few days after brought them home to prevent stressing them. That's the reason.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Aug 24 2008, 03:54 PM)
The stick or chew bar mentioned is basically a chew toy. wooden chew sticks and those like that.

You can try using it but it does not necessary solve your problem. If your hamster is only teething then providing a chew toy can help solve the problem.

But if your hamster is chewing because it likes the taste of metal, like many hamsters do, then it cannot be solved with a chew toy. Only changing to a tank will solve your problem.

biggrin.gif BTW, Roche had her first heat yesterday. I took her out of the cage and plopped her on my brother's shoulder yesterday night. Then he was stroking her when he said "something smells bad". Roche never smelt bad so I picked her up and smelled her. Then there was a horrid musty smell... It stuck on my hands even after i wash with detergent.
*
Wow!! First heat!! rclxms.gif But will it be a bit late for Roche to have her first heat as she is more than 3 months old by old? hmm.gif Our Kiko is having her first heat when she is about 4 weeks old if I don't remember wrongly. get a tank is the best smile.gif
bath sand - more fine, more expensive
toilet sand - bigger, n cheaper.

if u use bath sand as toilet.. the sand is too fine, once its moist. it can become very sticky.  also its too expensive to use and toilet sand. smile.gif
yes syriam do fight then sleep together. but they also can kill eash others, so better u seperate them.. before too late.
good quality dry food do help the syrian gaint weight, compare to lousy brand food. but dry food will never work better than fresh on hamster smile.gif ( a balanced fresh)
basicaly, smoothie is a BALANCED FRESH DIET. means its veges and fruits, which is in the balanced potion. u will get a chubby n healthy hamster. n never overweight.

mealies contain protein n FAT, FAT is what we don't want.. feeding too much will get an obese hammi. n the nutrition is now in balanced smile.gif
if u feeding fresh. ur hammi will not drink so much  to not drinking smile.gif
they not sooooo smelly lah Jamien, guess u miss her heat smile.gif now my whole room also on heat.. no small also hehe.. i playw ith them.. but don't feel my hand is smelly smile.gif

actually I know but I asked again because those two lines don't mean anything to me...a newbie.

you don't know how hard it was just getting any information on these hamsters. When I got the hamster at Ikano, I asked what food they eat (he answered oats), how often or how much to feed (he doesn't know), and other things like differences between species, etc...I got no useful answer from him or anyone else nearby.

btw, someone just told me that mine's Winter Sapphire...
*
I think you should do your own research rather than waiting for people to tell you or just ask everything. You can have all the information from the internet, then ask here if you have doubts on understanding. Everyone here was newbie before they get knowledge. It's better to do own study and research than get spoon fed. I was a newbie on hamster too before. I did research and read up threads and forums before I get my very first pair of robos. About those products also you can get info online. Hope you have a wonderful researching time. Good luck. thumbup.gif

Wanted to get Habitrail ovo Den and Habitrail Mini wheel but no stock. Then bought Mini outpost add to my Ovo pad. Got 1 Female WW quite exp. Haiz...PetShack takda buka so go pyramid buy.

Firstly went to Pet Wonderland near to subang parade...i saw the hamster looks so pale and quite huge...omg.
Now my female and male getting a long...look like the male likes to 'keong kan' the female lo.

Then you should start prepare more tanks and accessories by now for the new born pups. icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_question.gif icon_idea.gif And first of all is read up about breeding session before your female hamster give birth rather than asking for icon_question.gif when you saw pinkies. nod.gif Good luck!

QUOTE(jayniel @ Aug 27 2008, 12:41 AM)
well of cos i didnt simply say.. i only raise the matter now after so long cos i dont wanna simply assume.. it has always been advised not to feed RCs with fruits becos of the sugar content.. very few ppl have RCs.. so that's y no complaint so far?

i'm not against anyone or anything here.. there's no benefit for me doing so.. i just wanna raise some concern.. so that all those with RCs can observe their hammies & give proper feedback.. if really no negative effect on their health, then wouldnt it be a new discovery?

i'm not giving a one-off statement & everyone should follow what i say.. but i guess this matter should be discussed in the proper thread & that's y i posted here for everybody to comment & understand my concern..

regarding diarrhea, there are sites that suggest that average amount of fresh will do no harm.. but about feeding fresh to RCs, i've never seen any specific positive comments regarding the matter..

also, someone also addressed the matter to me.. which is why i wanted to ask publicly..
*
I think somehow you have your own reason not to feed your hamster with smoothie and concern about RC getting diabetes with smoothie. But like you say, someone should prove it and maybe it will become a new discovery. You are one of the hamster owner who have RC, maybe you can start considering of discover this fact. FYI, Nezu's smoothie main content are mostly veges like red pepper, green pepper, apple, pumpkin, corn and etc. I didn't see any high glucose contain fruits or veges in it. She also did her research and study on diet and nutrition content in each particular veges, fruits and grains which she used to make the smoothie before she start making it. All ingredient are freshly choose and expensive ingredients from organic store are used for the smoothie. I'm not here to side anyone but to tell the truth and tell what I know about the smoothie. icon_idea.gif Hope someone out there can appreciate what we can have and get for our hamsters. Of cos, all comments are welcomed for further improvement, I'm sure Nezu will be great to have all feed back no matter good or bad ones from those who tried it. smile.gif

sigh, everyone being sensitive here.. i am directing to the smoothie, cos it contains fruits.. not to trigger war..
instead of shooting my way of approach, why not look at my point?

if Nezu has tested the smoothies on RCs then the case is settled.. if not, isnt it to early to say it wont harm them? i'm raising concern so that ppl be careful & start to be observant.. if i just keep quiet, do u think it'll be beneficial?

Added on August 27, 2008, 1:04 am

yup, syrians.. i'm concerned about Russian Campbell, especially those with diabetes in their genetics..
*
oops.gif Don't mean to have war. Like I say, my English is not that fantastic and I'm just giving feed back on how I'll understand with your statement. blush.gif Maybe you are too sensitive with our replies, thought that we are firing or flaming at you, but we are NOT. icon_rolleyes.gif

As you said, those RC have diabetes in their genetics, so it'll be their genetic problem and not so much of the diet they take in. Maybe even they just take staple food also they'll get diabetes? Just like human.

let's wait for Nezu's answer.. it must have been tested on RCs for anyone to be SURE that the smoothie wont trigger diabetes in RCs..

btw, if u all did some research, not all RCs have diabetes in their line.. it's a hereditary disease.. therefore tests must be done in different lines of RCs.. this thing, it's all up to RCs owners to voice up.. non-RC owners, unless got a strong point to prove, may refrain from shooting at my way of approach..

@sangles: that's my point.. how if those who give smoothie to RCs happen to have diabetic RCs? they wouldnt have realised it's from the smoothie cos everyone is complimenting it.. the concern is now whether the smoothie will trigger (not cause, but trigger) diabetes in RCs..

ps/ i'm not sensitive la.. even non-sensitive ppl also can see that..
*
So how to explain for RC who do not take fresh also can get diabetes after some time? I'm asking out of curiosity since you are having and breeding RC, wanted to know more.

Luckily I'm having Syrians. Since RC have so many genetically problems and disorders, like diabetes, flipping, bitty and so on, better don't have RC then. Or else, I'll be very sad if I lost them. sad.gif

Not everybody is willing to spend for their pets la. It's affordable but doesn't mean that everyone will afford it mah.
