Current in Malaysia, all the Major PC fair is organized by PIKOM, hence they are given the same name.. ie
PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (I) ~ on April
PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (II) ~ on Aug
PIKOM PC Fair 2009 (III) ~ on Dec

While in Singapore. there is 4 major IT related fair each year... organized by 4 different company.. so they have different name..
a. ITShow ( around 1st week of Mac at Suntec )
b. PCShow (around 2nd week of June at Suntec )
c. COMEX (around last week of Aug at Suntec )
d. SITEX (around 1st week of Dec at EXPO)

Well, everyone holding PR status in Singapore need to renew their PR status after 5 years.

You are actually renewing your Re-Entry Permit (REP), not your PR. The REP allows you to REMAIN a PR overseas while it is valid. If you do not leave Singapore, your Permanent Residence is well... permanent. The REP expires to prevent people from remaining PRs when they leave Singapore... ie. hold the PR in reserve or in case.

As explained above, it's the REP. And technically... yes you can. You can renew the REP online, print it out and carry the printout with your passport.

The actual conditions for renewal however... I'm not sure if working/residing outside Singapore is something the online application will ask you to declare etc., nor whether a positive declaration will jeopardise the renewal. I suggest you call ICAA to confirm.

Sean,

Thanks.
I went to their website http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=152&secid=150
and seem that I'm not qualified to renew my PR status as i don't have a job in Singapore at the moment.
Anywhere, my PR status already expired nearly a year.
Maybe in another year will try my luck in SG again

hi chess_gal

when they offer $2.7k, i thought it's standard salary point for engineer with 1~2years of experience. But then when I ask some of my singapore friends with the same level of experience, their salary are $3K - $3.5K..... cry.gif

That's why i would like to know whether i should accept their offer or not...

Their salary package has NO other allowance. But if travel offshore, got $60 per day allowance. In-land travel, for example to JB, is $30 per day. Meal and accommodation is covered if travel.

OT is around $40/hour or 1.5% of the salary. Maximum capped at 30hours per month.

Look good to me...but you have to consider other things esp. your direct boss....Angels or Demons.....I know people who drag their feet to work everyday because they have demons boss. Pay is good but very demoralise

Diggnation,
I think you should not be comparing too much in terms of salary instead you should be focusing on the scope of areas that you will be exposed to. If you think you deserve more, by all means you can still negotiate or wait for another opportunity. With times like this, best not to be too choosy unless you can wait. Trust me, ppl survive on S$2k a month with savings in Singapore so I dun think you cant.

Agree with Chess_Gal.
Don't be too choosy at the moment as the economy is still not that good. Take the job first and only decide whether the job suits you

Thanks a lot for your information. But I think we can add other website in.
For rental room, www.house-sg.com is another useful forum. Please add it. Its URL is http://house-sg.com.

Thanks again for your information.

Is there a special procedure to renew 10 years?

Note 2 in the REP renewal form (ie. Form 6) states that "2. All REPs are issued up to a maximum of 5 years. The fee for a 5-year REP is $50/-".

I think first time is 5 years, second onwards you can renew for longer as my friend renew it last year to 10 years.

Is singapore rental is reducing? Quite hardly to feel it though.

Well, during the interview, my interviewer, who is also a managing director aka my boss looks very down to earth to me... For that whole 2hrs+ interview sweat.gif , he makes sure that I understand my job scope and duties. For the last 30mins, he showed me the entire office and briefly introduce the staffs.

No matter how humble he is during the interview, he still the BIG BIG boss, and I'll can only find out his true characteristic once I start work.

Thanks all for your kind words. ya, what you guys said are right! I should not be comparing my salary with my singaporean friends who are also in the same industry. Come to think of it, it's better this way as I dont want to create jealousy among my few singaporeans friends.

By the way, I was really surprised that average rental for a HDB with 3 rooms costs $2k per month. That's why I was questioning whether my salary is on the low side. My younger brother who just got a pre-employment offer letter with a civil engineering company upon graduating, also get $2.8K per month!!!! doh.gif But he's a NUS student. So maybe he is entitled for higher pay...
