QUOTE(hoongji @ Aug 20 2008, 06:16 AM)
if your sons are the 2nd generation PR, then they have the decision on either serving the NS (granted citizenship automatically afterwards) or renounce the PR without serving NS.
2nd gen PRs are granted citizenship (after NS for boys, and after 18 y.o. for girls), only if they also renounce their (foreign) citizenship at that time. This is their citizenship at birth arising from the nationality of the father (in most cases) and/or mother. If they don't give up their birth citizenship, they simply remain PRs.

iPhone finally up for grab in Singapore..
It's not really "up for grabs". It costs minimum S$1400 to a maximum of nearly S$4K over a 2 year contract. That's a hell of a lot to pay for any phone, considering basic mobile service is only S$250 a year (minimum incremental cost due to hardware S$900). It'll be cheaper when Starhub and M1 start selling it in Q4 this year, and when Samsung launches the Innov8.

No if you read their ads, it costs only $500-$800 for a 2 yr plan (depending on the plan u choose) and if u register their most expensive plan (I think is $200 monthly), the iPhone is free...
That's only the cost of the handset. You need to include the a large part of the cost of the 2 year contract because the minimum iPhone plan is almost double a normal basic mobile plan. You're essentially paying more fees every month for the privilege of owning a iPhone.

Anyone recommend the cheapest flight company from kl to singapore other than airasia
There's Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia also. All 3 budget airlines have prices from S$9.99 to almost S$200 - depending entirely on when you make your booking. This doesn't include taxes and surcharges. All 3 also have promotions all the time. So, at the end of the day, there's no "cheapest". It's a matter of how early you can confirm and pay for your booking.

You also have MAS and SIA, who occasionally have good fares, depending on promotion.

That sucks man. But hey, that's life. That's why I don't care how much it costs, and rent a whole flat anyway. I spend probably triple what I should be spending on lodging, but I also never have to deal with stuff like that.

So do you let out the rooms in your flat to other people?
Nope, I feel it's not worth the hassle. I like my privacy... walking around with no pants, leaving my wallet in the open, picking my nose and farting whenever I like etc etc tongue.gif

Bad sub-let tenants could ruin your life like bad landlords or main tenants.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Sep 13 2008, 08:51 AM)
Donno why when i stayed in malaysia, even in KL area, the landlord plus any other fella who staying is ok. But this landlord fren the biggest arse i have ever met. His ego so big can tell me off eventhough he dont own the house but act like its his plus can tell to my face that if i cant follow his rules, i better get out.

Its not that i dont follow, the guy so sensitive to changes like another person living with them that they cant seem to handle it. If they cant handle another person living with them, why bother renting in the first place if they think nothing will change when somebody else will stay?

Previously when i rented with another fella in a house and another guy come, we usually went for a compromise since i know you cant apply every rule to a new person but see what works best for both ppl rather then be an arse and force another fella to submit to his preference.
Firstly, are you prepared to fight it out with this chap?

If not, just endure and leave (now or after your contract expires).

If you are prepared to go toe to toe, then just stand your ground and tell him to shut the hell up and get out of your face. Honestly, what can he do to you apart from giving you nasty looks? Ask him the same question... What can he do to you? Is he going to beat you up? If they kick you out, fine. Tell them you will go if they give you back your deposit and advance rental. Win-win solution.

Before I decided a long time ago that I will never share a home with strangers again, I once 'negotiated' with an annoying housemate while holding a baseball bat in my hand.

QUOTE(XfX @ Sep 15 2008, 10:30 AM)
After you guys been working here for some years, do you still prefer working in Malaysia or Singapore?
Singapore. More opportunities for higher level jobs, higher salary and stronger currency. If you work in Sg and retire back in Malaysia, assuming you receive the same salary (RM=S$), you can retire in less than half the time and still have the same amount of RM saved up in your bank account.

QUOTE(XfX)
Do you like Singapore or Malaysia more?
Depends. Singapore for its facilities, safety and meritocratic environment, Malaysia for the food, DVD, gila driving and generally more relaxed life.

QUOTE(XfX)
How long you guys intend to stay in Singapore?
Until I reach my retirement cash level.

QUOTE(XfX)
What is the most difference thing that you encounter working between Malaysia and Singapore?
Salary, employee's market (for finance) & meritocracy.

QUOTE(siaukia)
do you/will you apply PR ? if you have the chance. why?
Yes. Allows you to find another job if you lose the first one. And many employers will not pay your CPF if you're not a PR. As a PR & CPF member, you also get access to cheap (but very) basic life and medical insurance.

QUOTE(siaukia @ Sep 17 2008, 11:00 AM)
2. the cpf will deduct your 20% of salary
There's a salary cap of 4500 ie. 900 deduction. If you earn more than 4500, the maximum monthly deduction is still 900 only. There is no cap for EPF.

And you can claim a tax deduction for the whole CPF contribution (900 x 13 months = 11700) as opposed to a maximum deduction of 5000 for EPF.

Malaysia has a higher self relief of 8000 but you start paying tax sooner (@ 2500). This means that the first 10500 of income (not counting EPF deduction) is tax free in Malaysia.

Singapore has a miserable self relief of 1000, but you only start paying tax @ 20000. That means the first 21000 (not counting CPF deduction) is tax free.

As a result, Singaporean effective tax rates are much lower than Malaysia. With a net income of 100,000, your effective Sg tax rate is 7.1%. In Malaysia, it'll be more than double that, 14.5%.

QUOTE(siaukia)
4. you might miss msia (after being pr?)
You can go home during the weekend, you know. You're not giving up your Malaysian citizenship lah.

sean, are you sure it's capped at 4500? Meaning the cpf 20% deduction is up to 900 max? does this max amount apply to the 15% employer CPF contribution?
Yup, I'm sure. It's part of the CPF legislation (you can check out their website).

And yes, it applies both ways ie. the employer's contribution is capped at a maximum eligible salary of 4500 as well.

First rule of asking people to recommend you for jobs in LYN,... don't be a bullshitting forum troll.

How come your 2nd class lower LLB became a diploma overnight? You're full of it.

I think everyone here would appreciate it if you'd stop trolling and posting in this thread.

Harlo guys, today i juz got an offer as an accountant for $3,800; 2.5 yrs exp. Anyone here can tell me izit worth to take up the offer onot? What is the current market rate now?
Doesn't sound too bad. Take, for eg, a fresh grad whose starting salary is 2500, he'd need to get roughly 25% increment each year in order to get to 3800 after 2 years. Those are increments worthy of international accounting firms (assuming you don't get the usual promotion to senior after those 2 years).

I graduated from a UK uni majored in Electronics Engineering. Graduated with second upper and now working as a Purchasing Agent with 1.6k per month. I am seriously sad. I turned down an offer by LTA as project engineer last week (they offered me 2.5k) because they told me i need to work at the site  (I am a girl, hello?).
Maybe that's why you earn 1.6K and other people earn 2.5K... hello?

If a guy (your competitor for a job) is willing to go onsite and accept 2.5K, why would the employer want to hire you?

If you expect exceptions and special treatment because you're a girl, then don't expect the same salary. The sword of gender equality cuts both ways, you know.

Btw i have a fren who is working in KPMG malaysia, does anybody know the market rate for an auditor with 3 years exp? Btw currently he works OT sometimes 4-5 hours a day but doesnt get any OT pay.
If he goes to a Big 4 audit firm in Sg, he should be asking around +$3K if he's still a junior. Around +$4K if he's a senior and professionally qualified.

QUOTE(crapp0)
He graduate from tarc with an accountancy degree from UK and has ACCA cert.
Ummm... pardon me but if he graduated from TARC, then his degree is from TARC - although a UK university issued it. That's like buying a Bestari from Naza and telling people you have a Peugeot from France.

also, what paper to buy if want to search for room? saturday edition of straits times? will be asking my friend to send me a copy soon.
If they 'send' it to you, that means you're not in Sg, no? If you see something suitable in the paper that your friends will send to you, will you be coming down to Sg immediately to view the room?

Getting someone to send you a few days old paper is okay for researching the market prices, areas, what's available etc, but I think it's useless if you actually need a room soon but are back in Mys. Good places are snapped up pretty quick one or two days after the ad appears in the papers.

2 wks to a month before you need the room, I suggest you take a 2 or 3 day trip to Sg and spend it calling up landlords and viewing rooms. Easier route is to just pay an agent so that you don't waste time and only view suitable places within your budget.

I am not a recruiter, or reposting this, but i can forward ur resume directly to the hiring boss. I am in other department.
And....i really have no idea how much they can pay. I can say anything, but it is up to u to negotiate, or see what you can contribute to the company.
Oh, I understand now. You're posting vacancies in your company, just different dept.

If it's not inconvenient to answer, which US MNC is it? Fortune 50?
