For those who are working in singapore,

How do you find singaporeans in general? Most malaysians have the mindset that singaporeans think very highly of themselves and look down on others.

After working in singapore, does this view still apply to you or not?

I notice that alot of ppl criticize singaporeans and singapore in general but they themselves have never actually been to singapore, just that they have the mindset from conversations with other ppl who themselves have never been to singapore.

after working in singapore, i feel that they emphasize more on educational background rather than experience.
You can find ppl with master degree easily in the company, but not all of them are performer. People from Malaysia can perform better, but, always being suppressed due to no qualification (i mean master degree and above).
One thing there are good in is presentation skill, which Malaysian lacking of.

Oh ok. My younger bro just went back to mlk using melaka-singapore express for only SGD 16. Those coach buses quite ex. Unless they have power outlet for laptop then i would consider it.

Unfortunately i staying at yishun so if want 2 take bus at kallang, gotta travel and switch mrt. But then again woodlands have bus from singapore to melaka or do i have to goto JB from woodlands since i dont really want to goto No.1 crimeland JB to get a bus. If can i want 2 avoid stepping in JB and just pass by it ASAP.

it is a service like money changer
instead changing for cash, they will transfer the money straight to your malaysia account.
So far did it few times and hassle free
normally the rate will be slightly higher than changing for cash, but they will charge a flat rate of SGD10
I know one near Tampines MRT always good rate. yesterday was 2.395

U guys prefer to save your money in Ringgit? So far i wouldn't for now since confirm the ringgit is gonna take a severe beating next year, this year oledi bad enough but once the sub prime morgage full effect starts at 2009, plus political uncertainty and a investor unfriendly policy by the current government.

Things will only look rosy at the earliest end of 2009. The only time i will change money to ringgit is when i go back to hometown, other then that i dont want my money to lose its value.

Any of you guys met any terrible landlords in singapore?

Currently now staying with a bachelor fella and his fren in three bed room apartment. The bachelor aint so bad but his fren is the worst fella i've met, usually one guy has one annoying factor which sours a relationship but this from day one his attitude was terrible.

Even though the house belong to the landlord, the landlord tell me i cant sit at the living room coz his fren dont like it, plus his fren has a bad temper which the landlord informed me but i didnt know it bordered on being the biggest ******* i've met. Every little thing like walking to the toilet to often to moving some things in the fridge, this guy will complain to me and worst yet is that he always bangs my door and then tells me off. and this is just only six months into a 1 year contract. Somemore they both smokers and love to fry food at the kitchen/laundry area, so whenever i hang my clothes and they cook, my clothes smell worse then KFC.

I actually had thought of killing the crappy china man coz me always seem to blame me for every little thing and he keeps on saying, "this is not your house so you cant just do anything u like, if you dont like it go find another place". I thought, hey this isnt even your house, and if it was, we had a contract.

Any of u guys encountered someone like this, the fella will complain coz i stay up at 12 or even 1am sometimes and if i goto the toilet during that time, he will say i make alot of noise when going and will start complaining.

That sucks man. But hey, that's life. That's why I don't care how much it costs, and rent a whole flat anyway. I spend probably triple what I should be spending on lodging, but I also never have to deal with stuff like that.
*
Donno why when i stayed in malaysia, even in KL area, the landlord plus any other fella who staying is ok. But this landlord fren the biggest arse i have ever met. His ego so big can tell me off eventhough he dont own the house but act like its his plus can tell to my face that if i cant follow his rules, i better get out.

Its not that i dont follow, the guy so sensitive to changes like another person living with them that they cant seem to handle it. If they cant handle another person living with them, why bother renting in the first place if they think nothing will change when somebody else will stay?

Previously when i rented with another fella in a house and another guy come, we usually went for a compromise since i know you cant apply every rule to a new person but see what works best for both ppl rather then be an arse and force another fella to submit to his preference.

Nope, I feel it's not worth the hassle. I like my privacy... walking around with no pants, leaving my wallet in the open, picking my nose and farting whenever I like etc etc  tongue.gif

Bad sub-let tenants could ruin your life like bad landlords or main tenants.

Added on September 13, 2008, 10:08 amFirstly, are you prepared to fight it out with this chap?

If not, just endure and leave (now or after your contract expires).

If you are prepared to go toe to toe, then just stand your ground and tell him to shut the hell up and get out of your face. Honestly, what can he do to you apart from giving you nasty looks? Ask him the same question... What can he do to you? Is he going to beat you up? If they kick you out, fine. Tell them you will go if they give you back your deposit and advance rental. Win-win solution.

Before I decided a long time ago that I will never share a home with strangers again, I once 'negotiated' with an annoying housemate while holding a baseball bat in my hand.

Well, the thing is the landlord and his fren are quite close or as i see it, the landlord is the biatch the china fella. Everything the china fella think gets an ok from the landlord, like the landlord got no will of his own.

I oledi plan to move out from i would prefer to honor the contract, eventhought the house owner fren dont like me and influence his fren to try and get rid off me. Plus i dont really like to move out so soon since only half a year plus its very inconvenient for me but i see how it goes.

Usually the landlord fren or sometimes the landlord himself will complain but at least the landlord got valid reason like sometimes i forget to siwtch off the light, but the china fella will complain more often like clockwork and for stupid thing like opening the door of my room to goto the common bath room at late night. Somemore his bad temper always get the better of him, seriously i pity the fella since he seem like got anger management issue plus anti-social since he only hang around the living room smoking non stop.

Anybody know if there are rooms for common room at sing 400 around yishun? Preferably non-smokers and non angry china fellas.

Of all the place to experience bad landlord, gotta be in singapore but its more from the landlord fren. I oledi got bad experience in malaysia with china fella, but this china fella cement the deal that most of them are arse holes but this guy is the biggest one i've met so far.

Whats MDR? I have a fren who just got work in the admin department for one company, she starting out 1650 but it maybe just probation, the funny thing is that her employer give her work permit only. I thought she would get at least an S Pass or EP since she has a degree in mass com from the UK.

Just 2 ask, getting a work permit, s pass or ep is it dependent solely on your qualifications or whether or not your employer preference to apply for you either one?

mdr actually a company name
for the work permit they have certain criteria
but it depends on ur boss wanna give which permit also

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ap/20080919/tap-a...gs-832f4ab.html
*
So the boss has the final say on whether you get a WP, S pass or EP?

Is it possible for your boss to apply you a EP or S pass if your academic qualifications doesn't entitle you for one?

Also lets say your qualifications are of either S pass or EP level, can your employer give you a work permit rather then an S pass?

I graduated from a UK uni majored in Electronics Engineering. Graduated with second upper and now working as a Purchasing Agent with 1.6k per month. I am seriously sad. I turned down an offer by LTA as project engineer last week (they offered me 2.5k) because they told me i need to work at the site  (I am a girl, hello?). So now i need to start seraching again..so stressful...sighzzzzz...
*
My work place also got a girl who is working in marine industry, and she has to go onsite quite often. I dont see her complaining and she accept that it is part of her job and gives her more "hands on" experience rather be a "pencil pusher". Plus she gets more exposure to on field training as well as having more indept look on the technical and physical aspects of the job.

Maybe that's why you earn 1.6K and other people earn 2.5K... hello?

If a guy (your competitor for a job) is willing to go onsite and accept 2.5K, why would the employer want to hire you?

If you expect exceptions and special treatment because you're a girl, then don't expect the same salary. The sword of gender equality cuts both ways, you know.
*
You forgot 2 mention that she is a girl. Nowadays as an employer they dont give 2 crap about whether u girl or boy, if you can do the job then settled. Its the employee which is one who wants 2 pick which job suites he/she. Since you dug your own grave, just lie in it.

Btw i have a fren who is working in KPMG malaysia, does anybody know the market rate for an auditor with 3 years exp? Btw currently he works OT sometimes 4-5 hours a day but doesnt get any OT pay. He graduate from tarc with an accountancy degree from UK and has ACCA cert.

Just wondering for those who are renting a room from your landlord, has your landlord or fren who is staying with ever explicitly told you that you cannot use the kitchen untensils?

Coz just this morning i was eating my cereal then the mofo china fella come and scolded me for using the bowls saying they are his, odd thing is i've used them before and he never said anything about it b4.
