U guys are really high standard ppl eh? I know guys who come working to singapore for around even then 900-1200 dollars and they can still survive. But i guess some ppl want 2 buy new HP and buy lacoste or muji jeans.

Need to play catch up to the locals here i guess.

But that is offset by purchasing spree. Donno why some ppl buy car in malaysia when they staying in singapore. Purchase a liability which they dont use very often.

At least a house is understandable. Hopefully next year when the prices of HDB goes down, maybe looking for a HDB to invest in.

Singapore's public sector has different pay scales for first class degrees. Generally 10-15% more than normal degrees.

For the private sector, a first class is not a guarantee of a higher salary. It depends on which university that first class came from. Let's just say a normal pass from Melbourne U or NUS is much better regarded than a first class from UiTM or a polytechnic uni. The rest of your resume and your interview performance plays a big part of the employer's starting salary decision.

And there's also the fact that Business Admin is not a profession like law, medicine, architecture or accountancy. Therefore a bachelor's degree in a non-professional subject will not carry the same weight, especially if you're aiming for a specialised field.

Ya.. my company is something like semi gov. If degree from malaysia, either you must have a 1st class B.Sc or a postgrad degree. If graduate NUS/NTU then 2nd Upper is OK.
A 2nd upper BEng from NUS can get higher salary than a MSc from Malaysia. (a more than 10year Public Uni, not those upgraded in recent 10 years)

I truly agree on your point. A person could actually save even though his salary is SGD1200; it all boils down to your expense allocation. I am working as a consultant here in Singapore, and I could easily save $800-1000 per month.

Let's see,
Rent - $500
Meals - $10 per day, $300 per month
Utilities - $50
Postpaid mobile line - $40
KTM return tickets every month - RM80
Misc. expenses - $100

As you can see, basic expenditure is like SGD1000-1050 only. This is my 7th month in Singapore, and to be really frank my savings in my SG bank acount till now is at least 3x the amount of my savings account in Malaysia (after working for a year in a local MNC). sweat.gif

i must agree, it seems that you spend a lot. but it is worth it with the currency exchange and as well as security you get there. of course you lose the comfort to get stuck in the jam.

I spend way less on on rent and utilities. I havent gone back to my hometown in nearly a year so i save on transport going there. My misc a month sometimes abit higher depending on which bar or pub i goto.

Last time went with my boss to the pump room, the music quite good, their home brew beer donno why have very strong bitter aftertaste but the flavour got lychees.

Need some advise here, i'm a contract staff and currently planning to apply PR. But my agent do not want to help me fill up the Annex A and provide me the testimonal.
They says is not mandatory for PR application and is tough to apply for PR in the first year of contract as I wouldn't have worked in SG for 6 months with a 6 months valid EP.

How true is this? Did anyone try to apply in their 1st year in Singapore and got their PR?

I know ppl in 6months can apply for PR. But that was permanent staff and not on contract basis.

I waiting for 1 year to pass b4 applying for PR since my chance would be better. I heard that if you apply too soon, they will remember you and make it tougher for you to apply for PR.

Depend on your company. What is the agent doing there? If he the boss?

For my company, I am on 2 years contract. They require US to get PR within 6 months. I waited for my 1st month salary.. Then I apply. get the approval letter after 3months. My Company HR also don wan to fill in the ANNEX A. Then when I apply for the PR. I need to fill in the Annex myself, and write a letter to justify why I can't provide the Annex A. I remember my letter is just a few sentences.

Depend on your Education qualification and salary also.. With BSc and above will be easier.

If your EP is very short... unlikely you will get it.. Coz you need your company to provide a letter that you still working with the same company when u apply.

Heard my friend said that after you become PR you cannot convert your driving license with just paper test? Have to take the practical driving test instead. Is this true?
