Max only 3 clients.

I think i have to put this down. budget issues. Need to upgrade to Airport Extreme for gigabit Lan. Otherwise i got gigabit NAS also did not serve the purpose.

Anyone know the different of  Dlink DNS-320,  DNS-323,  DNS-325 ?  i view the website it's all about the same. Also anyone know which one can stream 1080p movie without lag ? ?

thanks again in advance  smile.gif

I have the HP micro server with 4 units of 2TB HDD. No issues on streaming 1080p movies using wired and 720p wireless.

Depend on what u need for the NAS. Think twice if you want to use Linkstation Series for media Server. it's not support Mkv file. And the direct copy feature is SUX. Not all files format can direct copy. =.="

i am using with the same purpose and thought the same. But not after i get linkstation Pro Duo setting up and backup my 1tb movies files over the NAS. Many problems showed up

- Direct copy features only work with certain files format. MKV not SUPPORTED

- Back Up & Restore features not work with files Larger then 2GB unless the External harddisk file format is the same as the NAS.

So the only options to transfer the non support files to NAS is External drive to PC to NAS. Slow transfer speed slow unless you got a very good network setup.

Lastly, althougth the Linkstation come with 1.6gz processor & 256ram. but dont trust the BOX show "73mb Transfer Speed"

I never attempted to use the features advertised on the Linkstation. I just use it for hard disk space. I would manually back up files and store them manually in the Linkstation.

Hmmm...actually I have a link station pro duo....2 x 2TB HDD....currently close to 2TB worth of HD movies in MKV format...haven't had any issue trasferrig from laptop to Linkstation as well as playback on media player.

Only issue I noticed is that if u plug and external HDD into the linkstation USB port...it won't allow u to copy unless in fat32....which I figured out by trail and error....let me see if I can upload some screen shots of my settings

After reading, found that Synology and HP Micro Server is a hot product. May I get some advice for using RAID 5?

For Synology, if 1 HDD spoilt, just replace the HDD will do, right?
How if the casing spoilt? Can change casing and easily generate back the data?

For HP Micro Server, if 1 HDD spoilt, just replace the HDD will do, right?
How if the OS corrupt? How about motherboard spoilt? What should be the option?

For Micro Server, which OS is recommended?
Can it setup as 24 hr download bt? How about remote control?

Thank you for answering my noob question.

That is what I do too. Just use it as an external hardisk for storage. No problems transferring and playback of mkv files from my HTPC.

That would be expensive.

With the Microserver, it supports RAID 0 and RAID 1 out of the box from the motherboard. For RAID 5, you need a separate hardware RAID card which is expensive or alternatively opt for the built in software RAID from the OS which is slower.

For RAID 1, yes.

With the HP Microserver, if OS corrupt, just reinstall or do an image backup of the OS. Your RAID array should be recognised. For motherboard faulty, you can opt for carepacks directly from HP which should cover extended warranty (if you want more than the default 1 year) for a bit more money. Just enquire HP about it. Their warranty is like Dell's and they will come to replace the motherboard under warranty.

Else, just go out and buy another Microserver since they are pretty cheap and install your hardisk / OS back and your data should still be intact.

Absolutely. The Microserver is a server after all albeit a low powered one. I run mine 24/7 on Windows Server R2 2008. Although I don't like BT, it should be possible too.

Some here have tried Windows 7 successfully. I believe if you want to run with remote control or as a media centre, that would be the way to go.

First off, if something is wrong with your switch or network connection on your PC/notebook, you would still be faced with transfer problems if you have a Synology or a Microserver.

What are you running? Wired or wireless? RAID 1 or RAID 0? 10/100 or Gigabit network?

I run 2 x 2TB on my Linkstation Pro DUO in RAID 0 on a Gigabit network connection. Average transfer from the Linkstation to my Acer 1410 laptop is 22MB/s for a 4GB file. Of course if your PC or notebook hardisk cannot sustain 22MB/s, then your transfer rates would be lower.

Transfers from my Microserver to my HTPC are around 115MB/s. Very close to the theoretical limit of the Gigabit connection (125MB/s).

No. Does not come with OS.

I installed windows 7 professional, since my intended purpose is for NAS/torrent/XBMC with remote.

Thanks. After some research found out that most of the N type router is gigabit.
