HI all nas sifu,
after reading so many pages here. I am consider NAS synology 211j or HP microserver.
The most important is Stream full HD (1080p) movies over LAN or Wifi through HD player, Laptop, Ipad (non HD movies) the rest are file backup. FTP, IP Camera, remote access, download megaupload and so on.
I am in apple Mac environment.
So should i got for NAS synology 211j or HP microserver. ?? if Microserver which OS suit me most ?
thanks you very much in advance

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Jun 24 2011, 12:02 AM) A question to you would be how much of storage you require? The Synology will give you 4TB (or 6TB with the latest 3TB drives) while the Microserver will give you double the amount of space. Secondly, estimated how many clients are connected concurrently and accessing the new media server simultaneously? Max only 3 clients. I think i have to put this down. budget issues. Need to upgrade to Airport Extreme for gigabit Lan. Otherwise i got gigabit NAS also did not serve the purpose. Anyone know the different of Dlink DNS-320, DNS-323, DNS-325 ? i view the website it's all about the same. Also anyone know which one can stream 1080p movie without lag ? ? thanks again in advance

Alright. just saw the comparison. the most fastest read&write speed is Buffalo Linkstation Duo follow by D-Link DNS-325 & last Buffalo Linkstation Duo.
Anyone can confirm buffalo or Dlink can do a hack or add on to make it able download megaupload ??
thanks

QUOTE(turion64 @ Jun 29 2011, 11:47 AM) what is the current recommended NAS model now? trying to get one that is cheap and reliable.. Depend on what u need for the NAS. Think twice if you want to use Linkstation Series for media Server. it's not support Mkv file. And the direct copy feature is SUX. Not all files format can direct copy. =.="

i am using with the same purpose and thought the same. But not after i get linkstation Pro Duo setting up and backup my 1tb movies files over the NAS. Many problems showed up
- Direct copy features only work with certain files format. MKV not SUPPORTED
- Back Up & Restore features not work with files Larger then 2GB unless the External harddisk file format is the same as the NAS.
So the only options to transfer the non support files to NAS is External drive to PC to NAS. Slow transfer speed slow unless you got a very good network setup.
Lastly, althougth the Linkstation come with 1.6gz processor & 256ram. but dont trust the BOX show "73mb Transfer Speed"

QUOTE(narong30 @ Jul 18 2011, 10:51 PM) My stupid DIR 615. Not allowed me to acces my NAS from internet. I already forward port no 21. But I fail to FTP Yape indeed DIR 615 really stupid. Even i configured DND and port-forwarding. When i access using the URL it will go direct to router instead of NAS synology.
