Not sure to go for either the D-Link DNS-320 or the Synology DS110j. As much as I like the DS110j, too budget tight to be spending so much on a NAS enclosure.

QUOTE(ozak @ Jun 1 2011, 07:02 PM) Just ask yourself what you want for the nas. If basic, just go for cheap and basic. If want more function than just the nas, than go for synology. Well, any brief summary of what else I get with the Synology? So far the basic features seems similar but a review site stated that the transfer rate on the Synology is far superior compared to the D-Link. |

Have opted for the D-Link DNS-320 paired with a Samsung F3 1TB. Hopefully it'll serve as a good basic NAS with NFS function. Just need a network storage. My reason for this choice is also a tight budget, need to spend on something else as well so I didn't pick the Synology.
Bought the DNS-320 for RM279. |

QUOTE(zhen^wei @ Jun 6 2011, 01:08 AM) looking for a NAS to pair with media player at living room. How slow? Mine is about 5-7MB/s which should be quite normal for my 100mbps LAN network.i test with some nas , the transfer speed from PC to the NAs through Network is damn slower right. it is consider normal ? |

QUOTE(WhatMan @ Jun 6 2011, 11:17 AM) Hey all, Should be since there's the BitTorrent logo there. RM100 for PRO DUO seems fine since you'll get some extra software features and also a faster CPU in it allowing a faster transfer speed etc. This NAS: Buffalo LinkStation Duo http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/produc...y&code=8&id=410 Can it be used for torrents? Also, would an extra RM100 be worth to invest for a PRO DUO model? |

QUOTE(ozak @ Jun 6 2011, 10:18 PM) You mean using G lan network? That is quite low speed. G LAN? Gigabit? No, 100mbps is not gigabit, have plans to bump it up to gigabit in the future but a lot of equipments needs to be changed, from my router to all my homeplugs. I get about 11MB/s using wifi transfer while 65-75Mb/s using lan. |

QUOTE(denhock @ Jun 7 2011, 10:21 AM) just change one by one, the switch change to Gigabit first ( 8 port should be RM 1xx) or wireless N+ router ( but if you NB wireless device is g than the speed still stay at g). Don't have a switch, currently my NAS is connected to my router inside a "store room", my other computers and media players connect to the NAS and router via homeplugs, I think I have a total of 4 homeplugs. A gigabit homeplug is about RM130 (so 4 units about RM520) while a gigabit router is about RM200+ (the one I'm aiming for) so total damage over RM700 to convert to a gigabit network setup. |

QUOTE(SnoWFisH @ Jun 10 2011, 06:15 PM) Ive been thinking, is it possible to connect a hp laserjet 1010 to the usb port of the dlink dns-320? Im afraid that since my LJ is a host-based printer, it might not work. Yes should work without any issues. Quite often my HP LaserJet printer isn't listed in many devices' compatibility list but in the end, it still works without any issues. |

QUOTE(Johnnycartoon @ Jun 17 2011, 05:50 PM) For a PC environment, don't think so it has any issues but if to use with a NAS drive, many have compatibility issues due to this new formatting system/technology or whatsoever that causes the complications. |

Yup, you will need to forward the HTTP port to your NAS' local IP, only then outsiders will be able to view your hosted site through your domain (make sure the domain is pointing to your IP as well).
