Yes. Outdoor External Water Filter are recommended to install one for our home. The benefit is like what you said above. My personal more likely to recommend take 3M AP903 Model which tested and certified by NSF42. There are one seller in this forum here.  biggrin.gif
After I did some research on 3M outdoor external filter, I have no doubt about it. As for your indoor choice, you should think twice about it. wink.gif
Well, not really. Of course the more standard the product certified have, the better the product, but to choose proper qualify good drinking water system must have at least NSF 42 and 53 certified which is the Aesthetic Effects & Health Effects.
Somemore must fully unit verify and certify, so is no just only the components, there are few brand selling in the hypermarket or we often seen, those system is just components certify but not the full unit. Like a car, example: a Certified imported Honda Brand Engine put into a local OEM Brand car.

How important is the backflush feature besides the costs factor? For example, the 3M unit has no backflush but it implies that you will have to change the filter more frequently whereas the general outdoor filter has to backflush more frequently but one does not have to change the filter quickly as well.

Sand Filter
- 5-10 microns
- Heavy & big vessel but durable if the body vessel is using Fibre Reinforced Polymer
- Backwash function makes it more low maintaining cost (but you still need to change the filter roughly around 5years time)
- Filter media are from natural resources so is easily to be available all time

3M AP902
Not sand or membrane. Using non-woven pleated media. The size is very compact (smaller than membrane). Better filtration compared to sand but not as good as membrane. Could withstand upto 8 bar of pressure and would not significantly reduce your incoming water pressure. However, maintenance cost is more exp than sand but close to membrane.

When you use the 3M outdoor filter, you get much better performance and cleaner water compared to sand filters, which explains why the pricing is higher too. Additionally, I noticed that sand filters tend to have activated carbon now which will actually remove chlorine from your water. This means that potentially the water sitting in your pipes and water tank does not have chlorine to prevent bacteria growth and that might cause your water quality to be even worse off.

For membrane filters (hollow fibre), I have heard that the membrane breaks easily inside but we cant see it due it being fully concealed. That explains why the water flow seems to increase over the years of usage as more and more water are just passing through unfiltered due to the breakage of membrane.

Just sharing information and I am not using any outdoor filter at the moment (apartment mah tongue.gif )

If you ask me, from what I seen here, the product is just another OEM membrane outdoor filter.
Most importantly is the price that meet your budget, after sales service and long term maintaining costs. wink.gif

So that is why we must look into the filter media inside before we buy the outdoor water filter. Some comes with carbon, some don’t and some even let us to customize the filter media inside before we buy it. Outdoor water filter is mainly for household use such like remove sediments from water.

Thanks for the info sharing and discussions here NightFelix and NIckLJF wink.gif

Still pondering whether to get the 3M set or not....the vendor is charging RM 450 for the outdoor filter replacement per year (and then there's the indoor cartridge as well making it around RM700 per year). Initial installation cost is reasonable for me, just the annual maintenance costs that's making me think twice.

Maybe due to I'm old school, just boil and drink. tongue.gif

Well if you look at it, if its RM700 per year that averages out to RM60 per month. Some other branded water filters, you have to pay more than RM60 per month just for indoor drinking water filter (and they tie you up to 3/5 years contract)

Boiling and drinking will not remove sediments and rust from water haha tongue.gif

Most membrane filters like Hydro1 are about the same, 0.01 micron filtration and optional automatic flushing. Most membrane filters will claim that they are durable, would not reduce water pressure and etc but in fact most membrane filters could not withstand high pressure and is quite fragile. No doubt filtration wise, membrane is the best but due to the super fine filtration of 0.01 micron, it will reduce water pressure a lot. The question is, is 0.01 micron filtration required for washing clothes, showering and etc? With the fine filtration, filters get clogged easily and require regular flushing (everyday). Here is a demo of it

Each product has it pro and cons. Still the maintenance is way to keep the water clean. I am using Hydro1 for 8 months already and have no issue with it. Auto flush is configured 3 minutes every 3 days and so far so good. As for membrane filter it will also need to be changed every 2-5 years depend on the usage. Therefore no different from sand media and 3M however the cost is consider reasonable with every 2-5 years RM399.

Just the one which suit your budget and you are happy with it. Everyone has their own choice.

yup no problem but i would recommend to put the tap on the right side instead. You don need filter water for garden, then the filter can last longer

Should b ard RM 250-300. However, we only provide installation for our customers as we dont really make profit from installation.

was quote rm800 for the outdoor water installation... shocking.gif

plumber said need to dig the ground and find the main poly pipe and connect with pvc to the surface...
(cost inclusive of pipes, accessories, installation, conceal work (if need to hack cement floor))

cheaper alternative will be drilling a hole on the wall and connect with poly pipe between filter and water meter.. which is ugly...
....... dilemma unsure.gif

just wanna to install and get some clean water... sweat.gif
