Anyone from Penang here who got their water filter (POE and/or POU) recently? Any recommended vendor/brands? Thanks.

QUOTE(NightFelix @ Mar 20 2013, 12:17 PM) Hi my friend axoloke, what are your budget and where do you plan to put on it? land lot or apartment? What was your main usage for? because the POE & POU are different. Well, it's for my single storey house which is undergoing reno now. Read that most people recommend getting both for the best quality of water in the house? Budget...maybe around 3k max? Main usage would be bath, drinking water supply and some light cooking. |

How important is the backflush feature besides the costs factor? For example, the 3M unit has no backflush but it implies that you will have to change the filter more frequently whereas the general outdoor filter has to backflush more frequently but one does not have to change the filter quickly as well.

Thanks for the info sharing and discussions here NightFelix and NIckLJF
Still pondering whether to get the 3M set or not....the vendor is charging RM 450 for the outdoor filter replacement per year (and then there's the indoor cartridge as well making it around RM700 per year). Initial installation cost is reasonable for me, just the annual maintenance costs that's making me think twice. Maybe due to I'm old school, just boil and drink. QUOTE(NIckLJF @ Mar 26 2013, 04:17 PM) Well if you look at it, if its RM700 per year that averages out to RM60 per month. Some other branded water filters, you have to pay more than RM60 per month just for indoor drinking water filter (and they tie you up to 3/5 years contract) Haha..like a certain Hokkien phrase might put it = "Kaer Liau"....add flavour Boiling and drinking will not remove sediments and rust from water haha |

Anyone using the 3M internal filter? According to the manual, I need to connect the following valve to the input/incoming water and then have a redirected connection as well to the main tap.
My question is : 1.) Can I connect it to where the typical kitchen tap/faucet connection is? I mean I have no exposed water piping, the only thing coming out of the wall is the main faucet for the kitchen sink. Do I need to hack and hook up a separate incoming cable to connect to this? 2.) 3M's additional installation note stated they no longer provide the brass version of this valve. Anyone changed theirs to a brass/copper version? Or still using this plastic valve? Thanks for any info. |

QUOTE(Bubble Ring @ May 20 2013, 08:55 AM) Since you can't access to concealed piping, you need to install diverter valve on faucet outlet to divert water supply to water filter. Thanks for the advice Example of diverter valve: [Sample #1 & Sample #2] Diverter valve commonly available at hardware store. Make sure you bought the correct type: Tubing size: 1/4" (6mm) Coupling type: Compression Nut |
