3M DWS 1000 deluxe drinking filter has been tested and verified by NSF. 3M is a well known brand and a big company, this filter is made in USA. Here is how good the filter is
This is their outdoor filter AP902, more compact and durable than membrane filters
How to know if the 3M filter is more durable than membrane filters? Normal membrane cartridge can last for 4 years in average but subject to backwash (normally automatic timer). In term of outdoor basically nothing much just to keep away the dirt. There is not much different in term of outdoor unit except for the maintenance cost. For me the most important will be Indoor filter where I will go for NSF filter
How long it will last and how well it can filter are 2 different thing. IMO, the later is more important than durability.
True, but all the membrane/sands in the market are about the same. Durability = Maintenance for long run. Now most of us just looking for compact size for Outdoor unit to save some space. But bear in mind, same media with smaller size, will it be more effective? I doubt it. As long as the water come in is clean then it is good enough. As for drinking water no matter how get a NSF filter or boil it
We are lucky than in Malaysia we have plenty of land and most people can afford to live in landed properties. For people like me who live in apartments, no way I can install backwash filters or the 'rocket' type of outdoor filter.
But with 3M outdoor filter, it solves the problem because it is compact enough to be mounted on walls and hassle free with no maintenance (washing, etc).
Sometimes I wonder about the backwash filters, why so frequent need to backwash? First thought would be because the filter inside is not high performance and cant hold much dirt.
Also, keep washing and flushing, it will reduce performance? Just imagine the clothes, u keep washing the fabric also gets thinner and lubang gets bigger...no?
Comon, it our water as clean as other country, then no backwash is needed because there is no dirt. Backwash is to increase the performance. Water pressure in Malaysia is low and if the hole block by dirt, how well it can filter? You can buy the normal ceramic filter and you can see it become yellowish very soon (within few days). Same for 3M, it does not require to backwash but it require to change the cartridge more frequent. There are always PROs & CONs of the filter. No doubt zheilwane shop promotion is very attractive, buy indoor and get outdoor for FREE
hi, just a dumb question. For condo, where to install the outdoor water filter (i am refering to your 3M outdoor+indoor package) and do i need special piping for it ? and same for the indoor water filter do i need special piping for it or i can just install the indoor water filter anytime after renovation is completed? How abt the maintenance, how long to change the outdoor and indoor filter and whether we need technicians to come and provide the service, many thanks and sorry if you've answered these questions previously, coz i hd no time to flip page by page
For condo, the outdoor unit need to get permission from the management and they will provide the drawing where you can install it. As for indoor unit, yes you can install anytime which normally will be included in the package.
Most membrane filters like Hydro1 are about the same, 0.01 micron filtration and optional automatic flushing. Most membrane filters will claim that they are durable, would not reduce water pressure and etc but in fact most membrane filters could not withstand high pressure and is quite fragile. No doubt filtration wise, membrane is the best but due to the super fine filtration of 0.01 micron, it will reduce water pressure a lot. The question is, is 0.01 micron filtration required for washing clothes, showering and etc? With the fine filtration, filters get clogged easily and require regular flushing (everyday). Here is a demo of it
Each product has it pro and cons. Still the maintenance is way to keep the water clean. I am using Hydro1 for 8 months already and have no issue with it. Auto flush is configured 3 minutes every 3 days and so far so good. As for membrane filter it will also need to be changed every 2-5 years depend on the usage. Therefore no different from sand media and 3M however the cost is consider reasonable with every 2-5 years RM399.
Just the one which suit your budget and you are happy with it. Everyone has their own choice.
try avoid too expensive outdoor filter, ppl can steal it. the outdoor filter mainly is to filter make sure the water is not contaminated and not yellowish (Use for bath, washing machine etc)
And you got to need a good water filter indoor for ur drinking just like espring, if you always cook ur water before drinking it then can consider 3M AP which is cheaper.
Auto wash meaning using the timer. You can set according to your time. For my case it will auto back wash every 3 days for 5 minutes. It served the same function as manual wash, at least you wont forget to wash it. The service for the filter is depend the vendor and normally membrane it can last from 3-5 years and you only need to service when you found the water pressure drop or the filter break where you need to change or service. Hope this help.
Just want to share with you on point of entry membrane filter. I am using one since 2006 and its turbidity is measured at 0.1NTU which is as clean as the bottled water. No filter change and you spend 30 sec for back flushing once a week. Visit website www.ittellwater.com for more info.
How about maintenance ? Although no filter change but it will require to be service every 3-5 years. And you have been using since 2006 meaning 7 years from now.
Sand Filter normally need to be change 3-5years, Membrane Filter normally 1years. So you trying to tell us you have been using for 7years without changing yours? Seriously, you better contact the person and change for you right away.
It is depend the usage. You do not need to change the membrane filter if it can still be used but it need to be service every 3-5 years and maybe more frequent depend your usage and if the water pressure drop.
