I think you are confusing Amway system with R.O. membrane system. Only Distilled and R.O. system will remove the minerals in the water and best be avoided. Amway and others don't.

I mean I brought those mineral water name ocean brand. That you normally see in the office 19L. For mineral water, it is blue cap. While RO or drinking water is white cap. For that longtime I drink, I can different the mineral water and RO water taste. Sometime they do deliver the wrong 1. Once I taste different, scold them kau kau.

That is 53 sen per liter. Super expensive.

Amway's filter is rated for about 5000 liters at about RM650 thereabout. That translate to only 13 sen per liter. May be just go trade in your old Amway for the new ones. Cheaper, certified cleaner water, less hassle on delivery. My 2 sen.

Anybody have experience with 3M or GE water filter? 3M is using membrane and GE is using silica sand system. Please comment. Thanks!

why calculate so much on this? Just take alphamax with backwash will do... low maintenance compare to 3M. Cost wise cheaper as well.
*
3M has better filtration compared to sand filters like alphamax. Backwash could only remove large sediments and not cleaning the media inside 100%.

How to know if the 3M filter is more durable than membrane filters? Normal membrane cartridge can last for 4 years in average but subject to backwash (normally automatic timer). In term of outdoor basically nothing much just to keep away the dirt. There is not much different in term of outdoor unit except for the maintenance cost. For me the most important will be Indoor filter where I will go for NSF filter smile.gif

How long it will last and how well it can filter are 2 different thing. IMO, the later is more important than durability.

True, but all the membrane/sands in the market are about the same. Durability = Maintenance for long run. Now most of us just looking for compact size for Outdoor unit to save some space. But bear in mind, same media with smaller size, will it be more effective? I doubt it. As long as the water come in is clean then it is good enough. As for drinking water no matter how get a NSF filter or boil it smile.gif

Why 3M filter is more durable?
Membrane u will need to backwash daily. Most membrane filters come with a timer to auto backwash. Users seldom check on the filter, what if the timer is faulty and didnt auto backwash, the membrane inside will burst and all the dirt will gush into your water tank. 3M on the other hand, you do not need to bachwash for averagely one year.

Membrane filters, need chemical wash once or twice before change membrane. My mom house using membrane is much better than sand. Running cost of course is higher than sand.

3m vs membrane maybe cost is slightly higher on 3m, but if our utility bill is as high a Singapore it will be the other way round. Performance both on layman eyes I see similar clean incoming. Of course if need technical need to send it to test lab.

We are lucky than in Malaysia we have plenty of land and most people can afford to live in landed properties. For people like me who live in apartments, no way I can install backwash filters or the 'rocket' type of outdoor filter.

But with 3M outdoor filter, it solves the problem because it is compact enough to be mounted on walls and hassle free with no maintenance (washing, etc).

Sometimes I wonder about the backwash filters, why so frequent need to backwash? First thought would be because the filter inside is not high performance and cant hold much dirt.

Also, keep washing and flushing, it will reduce performance? Just imagine the clothes, u keep washing the fabric also gets thinner and lubang gets bigger...no?

Ok I need the filters, but it is inconvenient to go to your shop, can you just add these on top of my fotile instead of me going to the shop and add it? is there any installation complication that I should know? Any other technical details to share?

Comon, it our water as clean as other country, then no backwash is needed because there is no dirt. Backwash is to increase the performance. Water pressure in Malaysia is low and if the hole block by dirt, how well it can filter? You can buy the normal ceramic filter and you can see it become yellowish very soon (within few days). Same for 3M, it does not require to backwash but it require to change the cartridge more frequent. There are always PROs & CONs of the filter. No doubt zheilwane shop promotion is very attractive, buy indoor and get outdoor for FREE smile.gif

Buy indoor get outdoor is standard promotion for 3m sometime back, price just slight difference between shops. But indeed the promotion is attractive. I was only looking for 3m outdoor, and other brand indoor. But the promotion made me buy both ;-)

Another comparison, membrane filters have flowrate ard 1500-2000 lph while 3M - AP 902 flowrate is ard 4000-4500 lph.

Many ppl could not install sand filter for condos as the size is too big. So, they only could install membrane filters. However, due to the small pores, it will reduce the incoming water pressure and also due to the regular backwash required, it is not really suitable for condo. 3M on the other hand is small, has a much better flow rate and with a capacity of 100,000gallons, you seldom need to replace the cartridge (Rated, averagely 1 year upto 1.5 years)

For indoor, get Aquaphor Crystal Eco

Here is a brief comparison, for more info and latest promo do drop by my showroom.
