so wats your comment on our water quality? is it safe to drink just like tat? or muz hv filter?

In theory, yes. But in practice, you never know. That is also the case with public water supplies in Western country when there had been cases of public water treatment breaking down and people dying because of it.

AFAIK, all public water treatments do 2 things only:
1. Remove insoluble stuff like dirt and sand etc. Same as your Back Wash filter.
2. Kill bacterias and viruses using Chlorine. Back Wash filter can not remove some of the smallest bacteria and all viruses.

If you don't want to take chance, my suggestion is:
1. Get a charcoal filter that will filter off dissolved chemical, some can cause cancer. No public water removes these. It will also removes the bacteria killing Chlorine so these filtered water must not be kept too long.
2. Get a UV light to sterilize any 'too-small-to-filtered-off' bacteria and virus. So no need for further boiling.

Just make sure you buy quality filters that are certified by NSF etc and conform to Standard 52(?) and for UV lights, Standard 55(?)

Not recommended to drink directly due to the chlorine content in our water. It is added into our water at treatment plants to kill microorganisms.

If you want to drink directly from tap, best is to install a filter with carbon to remove chlorine.

Me myself is using a 3M water filter (AP-Easy Complete) at home for drinking and it is working very well. If you are used to drinking boiled water, it might take a few drinks before you get used to the idea of drinking from tap.

All mechanical filters like your 3M can not filter off the smallest bacteria and almost all the viruses. These are too small to be filtered. They can only be removed by Chlorine or boiling or UV light sterilization. Hopefully all those nasty things had been killed off by the Chlorine before you removed the Chlorine.

Go for UV. All these filter for drinking is of no use without UV you still need to boil. My filter has 2 UVs. One inside storage tank on/off for a few seconds every now and then itself and on when filling water. And the other at the outlet as you dispense water the UV comes on so that all the dispense water are again sterilise just before you drink. Almost fullproof. What is not full proof is your drinking glass, lol.

What storage tank is that? Just a drink storage tank or your main house tank? I understand that UV light got lifespan. How long it last ? My experience with anway old filter with UV is not last long. Easily get burn out. Worry maintainence cost is high.

I decide all my tap water go through the main tank to maintain the water pressure. So UV can help me to reduce the risk of bacteria.

When you replace them, make sure you don't use your hand to touch the tube body itself and leave finger print.

It should last 12 months.

Yes, UV lamp cannot last long and its efficiency goes down with time and even if it is not burned you have to change it every 12 months.

But mine is different. It can last many years, 5 to 10 years to change. Why? Some filter UVs are on all the time and its efficiency or life span is one year. Whereas mine, as mentioned earlier, comes on and off every one hour just for few seconds and come on when the tank is filling water and on when dispensing water and will go off once water flow is stoped. As such it lasts you many years, save you money and maintain its efficiency. And the UV lamp is made in USA Philips.

This filter system is very superior in design and technology. But you will be put off by its price. But if you want the best this is the best drinking dispensing water system in the world now come with hot and cold. All components are FDA approved for USA market. Even the tube, the tank, the filter, etc each and every components and parts are FDA approved not just the whole unit.

Is that the 2nd model, the one before the present ones?

IMO, though expensive, Amway's is one of the best based on specification. Philips got a good one but could never find it in the market and it's a lot cheaper.

I guess is the first model. Cost rm3k+ back 13yrs ago. Consider very expensive back. Now don't need all this expensive filter just to drink a glass of water.

I would like to know which filter water that has fulfilled the following standards at cheaper price than Amway.
1. Fulfill NSF Standard 52. Removal of dissolved chemicals etc.
2. Kill bacteria and virus so no need boiling. Something similar to NSF Standard 53.

I have tried looking for alternative but couldn't find one.

Actually I didn't drink tap water for longtime. I drink mineral water direct from those 19l tank type.

For my home, just a basic filter after meter and charcoal filter below sink. And boil the water if want to drink tap water.

19L tank. Are these certified? Some bottled water are mere tap water.

Charcoal filter. Can remove dissolved chemical but these need changing. I only trust those that had been certified by NSF. And I think those certified ones all expensive like Amway.

Boiling. I hated this. Only easily found viable option is Amway.

I have looked high and low to replace the Amway but no luck. They are still the best and most importantly, easily available. Philips has an almost equally good ones at half price but nowhere to be found.

The mineral water is ocean brand. Not sure got cert. have been drinking for over 10yrs.

I don't go that crazy clean just for a drinking water. It will weaken my immune system. Even now just drink mineral water, it already give me problem when going to 3rd world country for a holiday or work. Not to mention my favorite jungle outdoor activity.

I think you are confusing Amway system with R.O. membrane system. Only Distilled and R.O. system will remove the minerals in the water and best be avoided. Amway and others don't.
