My current Amway first generation water filter with UV out live the outdoor sand filter.
Not that it never break down, but spare parts was available. When we want to find spare parts for the sand filter the company stop making and no more stock. Ask us change another model @#$%#$^#$% Added on September 22, 2011, 6:50 pmOh, and the Amway filter still running. This post has been edited by weikee: Sep 22 2011, 06:50 PM |

I just purchase 3M outdoor and Indoor filter. Total RM 2099. I like the outdoor unit. Compact and nice. The Indoor is also direct drink, and NSF certification.
I like the seller, he told me the filter can match with all the filter here in Malaysia except Amway because 3M don't have UV, but Amway have. 3M have a list of water filter with NSF in Malaysia, they know what they deal with. Added on September 23, 2011, 3:34 pm QUOTE(normality78 @ Sep 23 2011, 03:25 PM) They don't sell direct but through dealer. I got mine from the dealer. This post has been edited by weikee: Sep 23 2011, 03:34 PM |

QUOTE(Serofax @ Sep 28 2011, 11:02 AM) @Tomme I know what NSF. 3M is NSF Std 42 & NSF Std 53 tested and certified. Amway also NSF Std 42 & NSF Std 53 tested and certified, but amway have additional certification because it have UV.if u hv UV, u actually dont have to boil the water...boiling process kills viruses, BUT in order to really kill most viruses, u have to bring the water to boil and leave it boiling for 15-20 mins...by then alot of that water may have evaporated >_< i saw this on a news clip. @weikee the 3M filter has NSF?....u know what NSF standards they have? i would assume minimum also have standard 52? http://solutions.3m.com.my/wps/portal/3M/e...2D0IMBP0SFB3GO3 Serofax, many people think boiling kill all bad things. Actually not. Also RO water not good for long term storage because it does not contain chlorine, and is best not to filter all chlorine before coming to the house water tank. Things with filter will need to be replace. Can't wash. Washable filter won't be able to filter small particle.

QUOTE(lowyat888 @ Oct 27 2011, 10:52 AM) the best is still boil water. our country water system not trustable. dirty what filter also no use. if dirty will cause Diarrhea. Boiling will not kill all unless you boil it longer say 15 to 20mins. Well unless you put into pressure boiling. UV light kill more than boiling.only high temperature can kill bacteria. passing thru filter and not boil water still have germs |

I asked the installer to do the bypass piping for the outdoor unit, add RM80 pay to installer. Next time I know anyone going to US, will ask them to buy the filters. QUOTE(kornflake @ Dec 2 2011, 04:17 PM) wat is the difference between 3m and the traditional sand filter for external filtration? Size and difference element,. 3M is much more smaller in size, and can filter much smaller items. I am using internal and external 3Mlooks like the cost of maintenance for the 3M is high where you might need to replace the filter every year at rm399 where the sand replacement might be rm250 and only need replacement every 3 years or more. and for the indoor filter, RM650 sounds reasonable compared to others but the rm180 for catridge replacement every 6 months might be costly. im not saying anything bad bout 3M and i quite like it but i juz want to know the money worth spent. please advise as Im looking for a reasonbable water filtration system |

QUOTE(cvshi515 @ Dec 14 2011, 10:49 AM) Im just curious for those who are using filter like 3M that does not indicate when you are suppose to replace your filter. Is there anyway for you to track how many gallons/liters of water that your filter has been "cleaning" around? Outside filter, the water pressure will drop. Till maybe you can't take it change loh.Was thinking whether I should install a water meter to at least know where to replace the water filter Inside, it supply with an external timer. You can start it when you start using the filter. It will beeb after reach countdown. Maybe I year i guess. |

QUOTE(cvshi515 @ Dec 14 2011, 11:37 AM) I see, then i guess outdoor one is not an issue as we will notice it once the water pressure is too low for us to use. Does it have a turn? like mine it have a turn for Start and slowly go to stop. Which you can turn back again (reset)As for the indoor unit, I am taking the AP Easy Complete with SQC Sediment Pre-Filter which doesn't have any countdown timer |
