anyone heard about Rogers sub woofer - ASB120 mkII? good? how much?

Not a good sub as it lacks accuracy and doesnt give the low end thump. But, cant complain abt that for the RM700 or less sub.

how about their floorstander like the PS5? a good speakers? any comment?

Otherwise, you can consider Nbien subs, around RM1,100 ...... US technology but made in Malaysia if I'm not wrong.

Where can I audition MS 309i ? Desa doesn't have it, only Carnival 9 (quite good with the lows, but at 100W too lacking power).

Do you think Jamo Sub 300 =>cost around $1700 is good deal?

The reason I still think of Jamo Sub because I have the Jamo 606 package speaker. I did audit the sub 250 with 606 speaker...is much better if compare without....
I did try to audit Wharfy SUB 250 at DESA..$1800...but using other speaker...I am not really feel the power or cannot feel the different with or without the sub....may the area is open area
Desa recommend me another one...Porkaudio PSW125...$1500..I can hear the better bass....but don't still feel with or without which one is better.....just with increase boom.....

But I prefer down-firing Sub......

With my Jamo speaker....always ppl said it is better to have similar brand sub also...

Do you think...during AV fair 2008 will have better price?

if SUB 300 cost around rm1700, any idea how much the SUB 250 and SUB 200 cost?

due to budget constrain, i may only go for SUB 250 or SUB 200. my living room is not big.

That's the thing with pairing. Need to be cohesive with the rest. But, SW250 digs deep. RM1,800? Aiks, on offer. Coz the last I checked wt Desa, it nearly tipped at RM2K

If you are afraid, then Jamo would be a safer bet. Seems like Desa is pushing hard on Polkaudio to everyone.

Velodyne sub is better ...but you must pay more than 2K for similar power...

If you consider 2K above...there have many sub like HSU....

I don't like the veldyne sub which the type available in Malaysia...cause front firing...I prefer down firing sub

HSU is even powerful ....with similar price...but have not audit both sub. Knowledge based on review only for HSU and Velodyne sub ..which available in Malaysia...I think you better audit the sub first prior buy...advise from most of the blogger here....I didn't go to audit because out of my budget....

my father eyeing at wharfedale sw150, here selling RM1550, is it expensive? worth to get? but it only go down to 35hz, i think not really low enuf as i saw Velodyne is down to 25hz. But heard Velodyne not so good in control, maybe it means it is not so accurate. any recommendation?

Very low, deep tight bass while at the same time good pacing/accuracy.

At that price range, I think it's hard to get them all. You need to spend more. That's why I think Velodyne CHT series is good enough for entry level setup.

SW150 for RM1,550. Expensive! Are you up north or in the East MY?

Which particular Velodyne model that you are referring to?

I thin he means the CHT series, at 25Hz could be 12R.

BTW, went to the HIFI Shop at New Wing 1U, got MS 309i for RM1.4k and a Paradigm (don't remember which model, I think PDR-10) at 1.9k. Is the Paradigm good? I mean is it in the same league as the CHT-10R? Didn't have time to audition, was in hurry.

Hehe I am still a learner here..... If for 15" sub, be it Velodyne DD-15, I ll take Paradigm Servo-15 anytime. The bass is earthquake shaking and heart pounding with precision and pace since it go lower than 20Hz (if not mistaken). I think it cost more than RM11K, or more than that.

It hs a few midrange sub, with the PS better known here. Since it is musical too, it (PS-10) goes a bit soft unlike the 'hard hitting' CHT-10R. Dont misunderstand. Both are powerful sub for a 10". Movie fans would likely to go for CHT-10R while those who loves both, definitely go for PS-10.

On another note, CHT-10R looks better and comes with remote.

VX-10 MK3 is no way near CHT-10R. It looks ugly to me too. No remote. Lacks low end grunt and power. It is the lower end model from Velodyne. Erm, I feels that my Klispch floorstanders do a better job than this. No pun intended and no offense to those owners here

Paradigm has been around for some time. It does produce very good subwoofer. Only thing is that it is a bit 'low profile' here. Dont expect to see it being reviewed by UK mags as they are more bias towards European products esp homeland goods.

I think i have tested once on the Vlodyne VX series. HTKaki heard about it when i returned it back after been con to accept it . The bass is a total failure. It doesnt sound like bass at all. I was dissapointed with the shop i bought with because for a pro shop like that how can they give stock like this for exchange with a sub that cost more than RM 2K.

From what I've heard, Rogers subs are not recommended at all. Maybe that explains the cheap price, but certainly not good bass.

Spot on. Only churns out 'whommpa, whoompa, sort of those bass that you hear from Ah Beng's car', but cant complain since it is cheap. Good thing doesnt come cheap

In terms of value for money and high rating, SW150 is the one. Both are very good subs for the money. But, forking a few hundred more for MS is a minus point here. But, it does look better than SW150.

I would go for SW150. At this price, nothing come close to matching it. But, I like long-throw woofer

Me too, long-throw subs have more impact than down firing ones but to be frank, for the money SW150 is considered a value buy unless TS can stretch the budget a bit and go for Velodyne CHT-10R

People around me tells me the downward firing subs are better than the front firing sub. Reason being is that the downward firing moves more air than the front firing one. The other reason is that the front firing usually moves air right in front of you-thus the name. They explained to me that this is not necessary a good thing. They said that the you can feel the downward firing subs even more than the front firing.

Basically, down-firing and front-firing subs are just different designs. There should not be significant performance difference except that down-firing subs tend to have more flexibility in terms of placement.

The down-firing units seem to be more solid, perhaps it is the lower center of gravity

The down-firing driver does provide some physical protection.

In ported subs, the difference is down-firing ports. Can do a very effective job of suppressing port noise. Eliminates port noise complaint

I like long-throw subs too.

i agree front firing or downfiring sub with the same spec driver, enclosure size, amp n right placement will have the same performance... i dont have the money to diy two identical front n down firing sub to do an experiment... but i do believe what my subwoofer designer told me.. i will take his word over any ah seng , ah cai or ah huat hifi salesman... i have tried my friend's cylinder svs in sg the impact was great ... thats how i fall in love with svs.. i am sure there r many more down firing subs out there with great impact too

After weeks of research, now I can sit back and relax, and see if I can get any cheaper at the AV Fest.

Actually I found out down firing sub is more consistence in the db accross the sub freq response. I try to calibrate my Paradigm PDR-10 using my DD-12 manual tuning with mic. With front firing position, a slight changes of mic direction will see a dip of 3db. I put 3 door stopper and point my PDR-10 downwards and it solve this problem. The freq response is much better across the range from 30hz to 100hz. With an equalizer, I manage to tune my paradigm within 3db from 25hz to 100hz.

I like the Paradigm's accuracy for music, while at the same time goes low enough for movies. I notice many subs quite "lazy" in music. And yes Mpyw, the compact size and the design helps my decision too.

But worry not. Apparently the HM has other plans, I no longer had RM2.5k budget. I have to settle for what I can afford only. Look what came home with me yesterday:



Got it at A&L Audio. The new stock only arrived 2 days ago, and the manufacture dat at the back is May 16 2008, that only 2 months ago. Now it has 3 years warranty for electronics, and 5 years for the driver. They said they won't bring it to the KLIAV. And even if they bring it, if they sell cheaper than what I paid, they will refund the difference. So I thought, if I can get it now, why wait for another 2 weeks?

This sub is really good, though for music the Paradigm is a little bit better to be honest. At this size it already stands out in my living room, I just can't imagine if I brought home the 12".

PS: Htkaki, they're out of stock for RX-V1800, but their selling price is RM3650. I really like this place, this is the second time I did some demo there. The guy, Rick was so friendly and more importantly, honest.

PSB 5i is about RM1.8k but A&L recommend me to go for Velo 10R for about RM2.1k for better bass and with remote. No time to go and demo yet but I take their word for it. So far very good experience with them not to mention good price

yeah, PSB 5i is abt the price but this sub aint as good as CHT-10R.

PSB 5i can never match what Velo is giving out....audition both b4 ended up with the Velo.....

What an unfortunate purchase. Is it bought at 'high' price?

Erm... RM 1500 for floorstanders, RM 400 for center + surrounds, 12 feet of audioquest-cinemaquest G2 RM 120 (RM10 per feet), Wharfedale powercube 12+ RM 1900. I only heard abt the cable and sub brand. For the speakers, i really never heard b4. The salesperson told my father it was actually producing high-end audio products yrs back, then now starts producing cheap audio product. he claims it is a US company, but then the quality built like cap ayam to me, not solid at all. The spec at the back of speakers also like simply write only. i can never find any info from google.
So, it is overpricing for all those equipment above?
