Callmevil, you know what, I've also stopped browsing for subs after I bought my Velodyne, and that's only 10". tongue.gif

What I meant is, people can only go so far. In other words, stop the poisoning! laugh.gif

Agreed, they're are not always accurate and there's no way we could tell. The best way is to use Audyssey, and then re-check with an SPL meter and adjusts.

For Audyssey, there's no way to see the EQ set by it from the calibration. I didn't like it, so, I set it manually.
*
So, your suggestion is now I have used Audyssey Auto Setting, then I should calibrate the SUB using its SPL Meter yeah? What if the parameters differ from the Auto Setting? Shall I follow the SPL Meter?

Sometimes I just turn up the Sub volume a little higher since I havent done the SPL. But eventhough you use the SPL Meter, some movies with soft bass recording also make you tempting to volume up the Sub. I find it is very subjective, no absolute ideal setting for all movies with different recording quality....

Then, that's your call smile.gif . I would opt for a properly calibrated setup

It is always easy to calibrate the system wrongly and extremely difficult to get it right wink.gif Then again, one man's meat is another man's poison

HTkaki,

I decided to use the Sub SPL Meter to do the calibration. Guess what? After test running few tracks in the disc provided, one of my downlights nearest above the Sub DROPPED from the ceiling!!! sweat.gif I am so scared all the rest will fall eventually........phew.

The whole plaster ceiling shakes.....scary experience for me. I have to crank up my avr volume to the max and set the sub volume to something like 2 o'clock position in order to get the SPL to reach the Green light(reference level) before the real test based on the tracks in the cd. The highest I get is +4db so I cut the this db in the filter section.

I think I should get a PASSIVE Sub.....sooner I dont know what will fall next!!! @_@

When at full Volume, the DAMN Sub is scary. Everything start to shake especially the plaster ceiling, so vulnerable to bass wave. All I hear from the test cd is low booming frequency rock the floor (down-firing) and reflected the surroundings. If my floor is made of wooden, I would have felt earth-quake. Luckily I didnt sit below my down-light or I could have hit & wont hestitate to throw the bloody Sub!

I have to blame the SPL meter, maybe a formal writing to manufacturer on why we have to crank the volume to the max in order to achieve the Green reference level before real test. Anyway, surprisingly the damn sub did not produce broken bass or distortion during peak volume. Imagine I felt culture shock when the bulb smash my floor!!!

Hi all Bass Sifus,

PLEASE help me to solve this problem:

I am using this MS Sub and its power switch has 3 modes, ie ON, AUTO and OFF. I set it as AUTO, the Sub will go On & Off during some chinese drama or astro programmes. Some actions in these movies will trigger the Sub but it will also shut off after a while when there is no bass signal being feeded.

My Q is:

1) By leaving the Sub in AUTO mode which it will On & Off very often, will it damage the Sub internal amp or its fuse over time?

2) If I set to constant ON, will it consume more current? I have read from the net that most of the Sub manufacturers claim there is no difference in current consumption whether it is in On or Off mode. Is this TRUE?

Thanks in advance.

Impact is marketed as entry level sub. Hence, the price and performance is lower than CHT series. On paper, Impact-10 loses out to CHT-10R
