to all brother's and sisters.. i'm planning on buying a xps m1330, and this are the specs. please comment on it (is it good enough, too good , or not good enough) thanks a lot. all you time are much appreciated.

XPS M1330 Product Red
Core 2 Duo Processor T9300
Windows Vista Ultimate
Red LCD with integrated Webcam
4GB (2x2048mb) 667MHZ Dual Channel DDR2 Sdram
200GB SATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive
GeForce 8400m Gs
Dell care premium 3 years.

all this specs will cost me RM6266. the only reason that i chose product red is because after customizing to this spec, it's cheaper if it's product red. now they only have an offer of RM300 for laptops above Rm4000, previously they had another off which is RM500 for laptops above RM5000. Should i wait for the offer to come back? And i noticed that the price has increased, should i wait for it to drop again?

There are also news that there will be a new XPS launching? anyone can clarify on that? thanks for all your time.

Added on May 26, 2008, 4:48 pmBy the way.. i can't find the option that allows u to customise the fingerprint reader.. do they still have it now?

why dont u opt for a son vaio sz or a fujitsu? we that money ur paying, in my humble opinion, i would get those instead of paying for a dell xps product red.. though i must admit it look cool..

there is no assurance that u paid rm6266 , ur laptop will have no defect.. dell offer good support but their quality is not there though..

sony sz is nice as well.. opt for that.. it looks cool.. fujitsu s6000 series is thin and light as well...anyway that is just my opinion hehe..

hey~
you may try go to BIOS (F2)
then under performance, there is option for HDD. changed to performance. I found that less noise compare to bypass or silent. for my case I guess this is work as per design and is not hdd failure or defective.

DELL won't change the hdd if don't have any failure unless there is extreme loud noise can even heard from phone or you make "noise" bla bla with customer service (personally I felt not good as act like beggar; no hard feeling dun flame me)

just my 2cents.
*
yay, i call them, and let them hear the sounds.
and they said de engineer will come to me by 2morrow, and replace de hdd to me.

they tell me to backup everything... welcome to kampung! wakaka~

I also bought the Product RED one about 2 weeks ago (only upgraded proc to T9300), when the RM500 rebate was available.
Why only RM300 rebate now? I'm guessing coz they give 9-cell battery by default. Mine n all previous setups only came with 6-cell. sad.gif
The upgrade from 6-cell to 9-cell is definitely more than RM200 though (during "old" times).

I'm sure the price did not increase, as I've been monitoring them for quite long tongue.gif

My comment
- I always view 4GB RAM as a waste on 32bit OS because the available RAM will be at most around 3.2GB.
- And you sure you don't want the fingerprint reader? lol. It allows you to log in to a Windows account without typing password.

Yup, I definitely agree. If I'm paying over RM6k for a laptop, I'd go for a top of the line HP or a SONY. I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed with Dell's quality assurance, although their after-sales service is excellent. Dell's quality is simply lacking.

i've looked through sony sz, but then first of all it cost more and at the same time the specs aren't that good compared to xps1330. i was thinking although dell doesn't have that good quality after all, it can be compensated with complete cover. rather than i get sz and the some shit accident happen to my laptop. it's like, although paying 6k for xps cost a little too much, it's good (specs wise) and if anything goes wrong, i have warranty.. so, for RM6000 i have peace of mind for 3 years? wat do u think.

and yeah.. the fingerprint reader.. hahah .. it's no more and option when u customize, it's already included if u decide to purchase xps1330. i know cos i can't find the option but when they quote me through email, it was included in the system.

Here's a nice little read about it :
http://www.t94xr.net.nz/index.php?title=Me..._XP/Vista_32bit

A 32bit limitation. smile.gif

You don't need to understand why actually, hahaha, juz know that, u're paying for an extra 1GB but u can only use around 20% of that 1GB. But many people still get 4GB of RAM (not knowing this i think).

Ok i just got myself a Dell XPS M1330 yesterday, got a pretty high-end one with 2.5ghz 6mb cache, 4gb ram, 200gb 7200rpm hdd etc in it, so far everything's been good except for one thing that annoys the f*** out of me.

When i first got it and played music, the sound will be distorted towards the end of every single song, and they are pretty darn obvious, otherwise when i do other stuff like opening programs, there'll be some very slight crackling sound in the music, i was so irritated at this supposedly top of the line model that i reformatted my laptop and reinstalled all the drivers.

So far it's been good, no more major distortion with the sound but i think i've heard some very minor ones, if this goes on i'm gonna call Dell and ask them what the hell is going on.

Anyone else with the same "luck"?

I suffer the same "luck".
I didn't care to reformat or anything.

It only happens in WMP though. No problem in winamp or any other player.

this is vista known issue.
just go to control panel
open sound, under playback tab, double click "speaker/headphones"
click :Enhancements" on top, check "Disable all enhancement",
restart computer and try again.

Ok did that but i'm not sure if it's made any improvement, since there's no more obvious distortion after the reformat i did. It could be me being oversensitive but i think i still hear some very minor distortions, occasionally.

I'll have to try installing other media players and see if there's any difference.

Anyway is Vista known to have issues when it comes to wireless connection? I was at my friend's place and her laptop connects fine and fast with her wireless router and mine was just painfully slow. Or could this be a Dell problem.

But the thing is i connect fine at other wireless spots, i think, or perhaps it could be faster.

no wireless issue in vista and dell. for you scenario, could be environment or network traffic issue.

Hi guys, just got my laptop yesterday.

XPS M1330 Product Red
Core 2 Duo Processor T8300
3GB DDR2 SDRAM
250GB Hard Drive
GeForce 8400M GS
DellCare Premium (3 years)
9 cell battery

I ordered it when they have the RM500 discount, so i got it for 5099. Just format it and installed back Vista. My harddisk is WD and it's kinda quiet for me, unless when i stick my ear near it. No problems so far.
