I also bought the Product RED one about 2 weeks ago (only upgraded proc to T9300), when the RM500 rebate was available.
Why only RM300 rebate now? I'm guessing coz they give 9-cell battery by default. Mine n all previous setups only came with 6-cell. sad.gif
The upgrade from 6-cell to 9-cell is definitely more than RM200 though (during "old" times).

I'm sure the price did not increase, as I've been monitoring them for quite long tongue.gif

My comment
- I always view 4GB RAM as a waste on 32bit OS because the available RAM will be at most around 3.2GB.
- And you sure you don't want the fingerprint reader? lol. It allows you to log in to a Windows account without typing password.

hey, wat do you mean that the with 32bit OS the ram available will be most around 3.2gb? sorry.. i'm a noob.. can please explain more?
Here's a nice little read about it :
http://www.t94xr.net.nz/index.php?title=Me..._XP/Vista_32bit

A 32bit limitation. smile.gif

You don't need to understand why actually, hahaha, juz know that, u're paying for an extra 1GB but u can only use around 20% of that 1GB. But many people still get 4GB of RAM (not knowing this i think).

Since so many Product RED buyers appearing now, here's a little trivia... tongue.gif

We may not have the choice of upgrading to WLED screens, but since ours is only 0.3 megapixel cam, Dell fitted it into a WLED chassis.
Same thinness, just not the brightness. biggrin.gif

That's the only choice cause i need the international warranty. sweat.gif
Are you sure? Cause when i place my order, i ask the sales assistant about it. He said he is not sure and will call me back after he confirms it. Later he told me that it is WLED after confirming with the factory side. I also checked the hardware id for it, LCD2306. Should be manufactured by Toshiba.
*
Wow, confirmed until factory side? I also ordered mine through phone, but my sales assistant that attended me basically just read what is on the page when i asked about WLED. So i just compared the thinness with pictures online... and assumed that it's thin CCFL.

Hardware ID : MONITOR\LCD2306
>> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=160372
>> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread...=139220&page=75

This basically confirms it then... hahaha. Why Dell didn't label it as WLED? laugh.gif Is it cool now skeith? lol
You're the man, hitman. rclxms.gif

But with that said, I don't feel my display is particularly bright...

To know the actual size of your HDD (and also the hidden partitions), right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.

Since Vista SP1 slipstreamed DVD is now available, can we actually request Dell to send one over?

Check out this news from Engadget
>> http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/02/nvidia-...s-are-defectiv/

Then check out Dell's new driver for 8400M GS
>> http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloa...n&catid=&impid=

Bad news as in we've got a faulty part, or good news as in nvidia fessed up and taking responsibility?

No direct mention of M1330, but this is too much of a coincidence.

These are mine after booting and running for a while. It always hovers around 70 or 69 during normal operation. Minimum is 65 or 66, idling. When gaming can be 80+ till 100+.

Why so hot? Coz the thermal pad used for contact with the GPU isn't that efficient. These guys did a little modding by replacing the thermal pad with copper or aluminum sheets, and it dropped to 50+.

Dell officially explains the faulty NVIDIAs >> http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/200...top-owners.aspx, which includes M1330.

Solution? A12 BIOS, which makes the fan go full blown most of the time. Noisier, kills the fan faster, and drains more battery... while pushing it out of the warranty time frame. Suggest extending warranty or "sabo" yr M1330 when it's gonna end for one last replacement doh.gif .

Take note, it's NVIDIA's fault. mad.gif

Solution or prevention, i don't see Dell replacing the GPUs... there's just too many 8400M and 8600M out there.

Dell owner should see this...
I bet others are going to do the same...

We were talking about it smile.gif , one page back.

On to another topic. Part of Studio's design came from the XPS series. What about an Inspiron that looks identical to M1330, but with less metal and more plastic? Inspiron 13 >> http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4526

Maybe Nvidia is just settling things in the background, i.e. "sponsored" the extended warranty... hahaha.

I'm sure all of us would want a new card instead, but Dell just won't design a new board with 9xxx series (there are rumours of defects for these too), heck, Dell's still shipping units with 8400M GS, lol... bummer for the buyers that are unaware of this.

anyone know other 8series notebook on other brand had take action? like Acer, etc....

From the comments, HP also extended warranty by one year (announced earlier than Dell), but i can't seem to find info on it.

QUOTE(BlueHeng @ Aug 20 2008, 07:56 PM)
Yes it does get slightly hot.
The wifi card is somewhere below the keyboard if I'm not mistaken. The receiver is just behind your integrated webcam.
*
If IntelAGN WLAN card, 2 antennas for WLED screens (i've seen them inside mine before, left and right of webcam), 3 antennas for CCFL screens (from http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread...t=161967&page=2). Compulsory minimum of 2, since N have MIMO smile.gif

QUOTE(redtuna @ Aug 20 2008, 11:04 PM)
how come they didn't put new thermal grease when they changed mine? hmm.gif

Me too. I asked the technician that came to my house why no need re-apply, he said still hot blink.gif ...

anyone tried this before? unsure.gif

The only problem I have is slow download speed from Dell's support website.

Anyway, just noticed there's a new driver for 8400M GS

It's a 32-bit OS limitation in addressing. No matter what, you can't make use of all 4GB... unless you want other components to not work biggrin.gif
With 64-bit OS, you can go up to 128GB.
