why don't u give them an email first. see what their respond. usually they reply within 1 business day.

last time i email them regarding my dead pixel and they respond that they will replace if only i got more than 5 dead pixel or 2-joint dead pixel. less than 5 dead pixel is industrial standard they said.

if they respond with some crap bla bla....then u make a call to counter the crap

you may try go to BIOS (F2)
then under performance, there is option for HDD. changed to performance. I found that less noise compare to bypass or silent. for my case I guess this is work as per design and is not hdd failure or defective.

DELL won't change the hdd if don't have any failure unless there is extreme loud noise can even heard from phone or you make "noise" bla bla with customer service (personally I felt not good as act like beggar; no hard feeling dun flame me)

I ordered it when they have the RM500 discount, so i got it for 5099. Just format it and installed back Vista. My harddisk is WD and it's kinda quiet for me, unless when i stick my ear near it. No problems so far.

Since so many Product RED buyers appearing now, here's a little trivia... 

We may not have the choice of upgrading to WLED screens, but since ours is only 0.3 megapixel cam, Dell fitted it into a WLED chassis.
Same thinness, just not the brightness. 

That's the only choice cause i need the international warranty.
Are you sure? Cause when i place my order, i ask the sales assistant about it. He said he is not sure and will call me back after he confirms it. Later he told me that it is WLED after confirming with the factory side. I also checked the hardware id for it, LCD2306. Should be manufactured by Toshiba.

Wow, confirmed until factory side? I also ordered mine through phone, but my sales assistant that attended me basically just read what is on the page when i asked about WLED. So i just compared the thinness with pictures online... and assumed that it's thin CCFL.

But with that said, I don't feel my display is particularly bright...

i have the WLED screen.. and i think the wled screen is a bit grainy.. compared to the normal CCFL.. but its much brighter..

if u see white background pages.. u see them as white colour on WLED but on CCFL is slightly yellow...

but the WLED from dell.. its nothing compared to the vaio SZ premium ones...

after reading through the thread, as my experience, is the faulty mother board so far.
just before 2 weeks ago, i have changed with two faulty mother board, which are the A08 CN-OPU073 mobo. The reason i changed it is because everytime i turn on the laptop, the screen displayed some RAINBOW above and below the screen, also got the weird vertical or horizontal lines too when i get lucky   That time i need to press the power button again again and again in order to successfully log into the window. But if does log into the window, after few minutes, the screen distorted by some crazy colour, then the laptop shut down. This problems occured during the 1st mobo replacement.

The 2nd replacement: The same problem, but the probability of logging into window has increased, but still the laptop will shutdown automatically.
i remember that time when i watched "DIE HARD 1" with my xps, after 2 hours, the screen went blank (black), but the sound still continueosly producing. No matter what i pressed, the laptop cant even shut down. And, before that i like to turn off the window security centre. But that time somehow i turn it on, and it pop out a message, said that my display driver was uncompatible to...... i forgot already. At that time, i though is my x64 nvdia which download from tweakforce, caused the distortion and make my laptop unuseable. So, i uninstalled it, but still the problem occured.

After that, i went back to my hometown, called dell to replace a new mobo to me, this time, i strictly ask the lovely tech customer to sent me the new OD057P REV00, which strongly recommend by Dopod brother. So, after 2 days, they really sent me the new mobo with REV01. Now, the problem solve, works good. but i haven install any temperature monitoring program in my laptop. if do, i will update my temperature reading soon.
By the way, the engineer told me that my 2nd mobo actually had some burnt issue around the power supply connector there.
haiz. dell really nothing to do and find things to do la. But finally i still get a new mobo replacemnet.

So, as a conclusion, i think our 8400 works ok. cz now i currently still installed the x64 tweak force driver. works prefectly.

I'm not sure about the part where you mentioned the 8400 works ok. IMHO, most of the problems with our lappies are due to the graphics itself. Like how you get odd-colored pixels, vertical/horizontal lines, blank screen etc etc.

They replaced the whole mobo just because graphics is integrated on the mobo itself.

although 8400 is a discrete graphic card, but when video card issue and need replacement, will replace mobo. 8400 and mobo are 1part only for xps1330.

if stay UK in long term, I suggest you better purchased the system at UK. some of user had bad experience of UK support because of system purchased from asia. But I wonder why, UK tech support are so not friendly/helpful even system are international warranty. they will request you transfer the warranty, no system information found, cant check, bra bra......  then only support you.

Ok the sound issue is definitely bugging the shit out of me, i've tried all the things mentioned in the dell forum but it is still happening.

I can't tell if it's the sound card issue or the display driver issue, when i watch a show, eg lost, when the scenes are changed from blank to picture the sound will crackle.

Grrr...i'll try downgrading the sound driver to a vista generic one, if it still persists, will have to call dell and ask for a replacement.

I just ordered a Red product unit today. Any idea which mouse to get? I'll need an accurate one for photo editing.

I'm thinking of VX Evolution. 

No mouse for Red product.

Function wise and performance Logitech VX way better than Dell one.

It's laser sensor afterall.

(Btw, already order and paid not just want to buy )
