I just ordered a Red product unit today. Any idea which mouse to get? I'll need an accurate one for photo editing.

I'm thinking of VX Evolution. hmm.gif

although 8400 is a discrete graphic card, but when video card issue and need replacement, will replace mobo. 8400 and mobo are 1part only for xps1330.

if stay UK in long term, I suggest you better purchased the system at UK. some of user had bad experience of UK support because of system purchased from asia. But I wonder why, UK tech support are so not friendly/helpful even system are international warranty. they will request you transfer the warranty, no system information found, cant check, bra bra......  then only support you.

i agreed with both u said.

QUOTE(orangysb @ May 31 2008, 10:20 PM)
Ok the sound issue is definitely bugging the shit out of me, i've tried all the things mentioned in the dell forum but it is still happening.

I can't tell if it's the sound card issue or the display driver issue, when i watch a show, eg lost, when the scenes are changed from blank to picture the sound will crackle.

Grrr...i'll try downgrading the sound driver to a vista generic one, if it still persists, will have to call dell and ask for a replacement.
*
try to turn off all the sounds enhancement at control panel there.

No mouse for Red product.

Function wise and performance Logitech VX way better than Dell one.

It's laser sensor afterall.

(Btw, already order and paid not just want to buy tongue.gif)

After calculating the price after customizing, if you want longer warranty, Red is actually cheaper. It comes with Vista Ultimate.

Just no bluetooth mouse. Get RM500 rebate.

QUOTE(MrLawKH @ May 31 2008, 01:31 PM)
what you mean the the problem only apply to those with nvdia graphic? whats the display problem actually?

Added on May 31, 2008, 2:14 pm
after reading through the thread, as my experience, is the faulty mother board so far.
just before 2 weeks ago, i have changed with two faulty mother board, which are the A08 CN-OPU073 mobo. The reason i changed it is because everytime i turn on the laptop, the screen displayed some RAINBOW above and below the screen, also got the weird vertical or horizontal lines too when i get lucky yawn.gif  That time i need to press the power button again again and again in order to successfully log into the window. But if does log into the window, after few minutes, the screen distorted by some crazy colour, then the laptop shut down. This problems occured during the 1st mobo replacement.

The 2nd replacement: The same problem, but the probability of logging into window has increased, but still the laptop will shutdown automatically.
i remember that time when i watched "DIE HARD 1" with my xps, after 2 hours, the screen went blank (black), but the sound still continueosly producing. No matter what i pressed, the laptop cant even shut down. And, before that i like to turn off the window security centre. But that time somehow i turn it on, and it pop out a message, said that my display driver was uncompatible to...... i forgot already. At that time, i though is my x64 nvdia which download from tweakforce, caused the distortion and make my laptop unuseable. So, i uninstalled it, but still the problem occured.

After that, i went back to my hometown, called dell to replace a new mobo to me, this time, i strictly ask the lovely tech customer to sent me the new OD057P REV00, which strongly recommend by Dopod brother. So, after 2 days, they really sent me the new mobo with REV01. Now, the problem solve, works good. but i haven install any temperature monitoring program in my laptop. if do, i will update my temperature reading soon.
By the way, the engineer told me that my 2nd mobo actually had some burnt issue around the power supply connector there. shakehead.gif
haiz. dell really nothing to do and find things to do la. But finally i still get a new mobo replacemnet.

So, as a conclusion, i think our 8400 works ok. cz now i currently still installed the x64 tweak force driver. works prefectly.

Hope these can help you.

Hi KH, yes u hv the 'infamous' problem of this 'lappie'... I've exactly same problem as urs and i'm waiting for my account transfer 'cos i'm in Austria. Good to hear they 'solved' ur problem despite 2nd replacement. However, the point is if Dell didn't fix or improve on the root cause of the prob, then u're start seeing this prob again after another 6 months if i'm not mistaken, and by that time ur warranty might oredi expired. Good luck to all of us!

haha! jus wat i said, all depend on ur luck! smile.gif
and congratez tat they finally made ur machine perfect! lets cheer for dell technician support!

the 1st problem is the most common problem, this is wat they call "flaw" or something like tat. most of the oversea user face tis problem, and one of my fren too. they said it was graphic card fault, burn or something.
Well, the machine will only perfect for another 6 months... Just wait and time will tell...

QUOTE(skeith @ May 31 2008, 03:13 PM)
but the 2nd problem of urs, i not really bout it  rclxub.gif
8400 is a discrete graphic card, not integrated. means seperated.
*
8400 is integrated to the Mobo, meaning it's not separated, it's built into the motherboard, so if anything happen, the only thing is to change to the whole motherboard.

Nvidia i use, intel graphic card is not compatible to my job.
and u noe, this is no onli occur in XPS even inspiron oso hv tis kid of problem, it jus graphic card's burn, tis is wat my fren telling me coz he is using inspiron.

and i tell u wat, every electronics hardware are going to have problem after some times. please dont mind bout de weakness of him, as long as u support him. this is wat my fren teach me, he brough sony vaio few weeks b4 i get my dell.

thx

I don't agreed that every electronics hardware are going to have problem after 6 months... This is totally not acceptable. And i also tell u what, I study electronics and computer, working as Engineer in Semiconductor firm. I know the requirement of modern chips... I know Dell support is excellent, but their quality is not up to the standard (maybe R&D fault in this case). Pls do not support blindly to Dell, if there is a prob, it is! Thanks!

I think I purchased a lemon......

Typically when you plug in the AC Adapter into a new laptop, and you press the power button, it switches on right?

Nothing happens on mine.... the AC Adapter light shows power is going to the adapter..... shakehead.gif

U just received it?

Try take out the battery and power on without it.

If can, try re-insert the battery and power on only after AC adapter charged the battery for a few minute and see if you can turn on with the battery.

tmd is correct.

The warranty is just some protection for the end users just in case the product didn't work as expected due to quality issue. It's like a "minimum days for the product to function without problem" guarantee by the manufacturer. But it should last long enough for the value that you paid for it.

Unless stated otherwise (i.e. Flash type memory storage will die after a certain cycle of read/write/rewrite), the product should work until the normal wear and tear has caused it to break down.

Tried both... still won't boot up.

Battery's been plugged in for a while now. sad.gif

Got test pen?

Can check whether there's current going through near the metal contact you plug in to the laptop?

If got current, most probably your laptop need to be replaced.

If no current, try with another cable/adapter.

I used the same adapter for my other Dell Laptop... it works fine even tho it's a 95W vs 65W (used by old Dell). But when I put it back to the new one, the same new one still doesn't work.... YAY I got a lemon!!!

It's something that turned out to be defective, unsatisfactory. And yes it has been quite unsatisfactory so far... it's got the specs to blow ones mind away and has the reputation to match it, but what's the point of a pc that can't fire up. shakehead.gif

Anyway I've wrote their sales team an email. Couldn't contact the Technical Support - offwork hours, email server unavailable... blah blah... same $hit different day.
